A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces are directing efforts to disrupt the execution of Russian invaders' offensive plans and exhaust their combat potential.

150 combat clashes have taken place since the beginning of the day.

The Russian opponent made 29 air strikes, dropped 62 controlled air bombs. In addition, used 2,683 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,150 shelling of settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.

In the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions today, Russian forces carried out three attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders and 155 shells.
In the South Slobozhans Наkomu direction, the Russian enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian units in the area of Vovchansk, Sinelnikovoye and in the direction of Kolodyaznogo. Ukrainian units repelled five attacks.
Three attacks were repelled by Ukrainian defenders in the Kupyansky direction in the areas of Pi напряany and Petropavlivka.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers stopped 10 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Shandrigolove, Novoselivka, Grekivka, Nadia, Zarichne and in the direction of Stavkiv. Three more clashes are still ongoing.
In the Slavic direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled 11 Russian attempts to advance in the areas in the areas of Dronivka, Viymki, Serebryanka, Siversk and in the direction of Zvanivka, Yampol, Zakitnogo. Another combat encounter is still going on.
In the Kramators комуkomu direction the Russian opponent did not carry out offensive actions.
In the Konstantinivka direction, the Russian occupiers today stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders 19 times near Oleksandro-Shultiny, Ivanopilya, Kleban-Bik, Jablunivka, Pleshiyivka, Poltavka and towards Konstantynivka, Stepanivka and Sofiyivka. Defense forces have already repelled 15 Russian attacks, fighting continues.
In the Pokrovsky direction, the enemy committed 47 attacks. The Russian occupiers tried to advance near the settlements of Shahove, New Shahove, Rodinske, Chervony Lyman, Mirnograd, Pokrovsk, Kotline, Novosergííívka, Novoekonomíčne, Molodec Оke, Philia, Dachne. The three clashes are still ongoing.
According to preliminary calculations, today in this direction, Ukrainian soldiers killed 50 Russian invaders and wounded 30; destroyed 21 unmanned aircraft and two personnel shelters; struck one vehicle, one artillery system and 11 enemy personnel shelters.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Ukrainian units stopped 13 Russian attacks in the areas of settlements Stepovo, Krasnogirsk, Privilne, Pavlivka, Yegorivka, Zeleny Gorge, Vorone, Sosnivka and in the direction of Orestopol. The enemy launched an air strike on Velikomykhailivka.
In the Gulyaipil direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 15 Russian attacks near the settlements of Green Gorge, Zatishya, Solodke and towards Varvarivka and Dobropillya. Yet another battle is underway. Russian aviation struck the settlements of Gulyaipole and Zaliznychne.
In the Orihiv direction, the Defense Forces repelled one Russian attack in the Primorsky area.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, two Russian attacks in the direction of the Antonivsky Bridge ended for the occupiers to no avail.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on units of a mechanised brigade, an assault regiment of the AFU, two territorial defence brigades, and a national guard brigade near Miropolye, Yezdetskoye, Alekseyevka, Andreyevka, and Varachino (Sumy region).

In Kharkov direction, units of a motorised infantry brigade and an assault regiment have been hit near Nesternoye and Vilcha (Kharkov region).

The enemy has lost more than 135 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 17 motor vehicles, two field artillery guns, including one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system, and two ammunition and materiel depots.

The Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. They inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades of the AFU, a territorial defence brigade, and a national guard brigade have been hit near Kucherovka, Glushkovka, Kurylovka, Boguslavka, Nechvolodovka, Novy Mir, Podoly (Kharkov region), Krasny Liman, Dibrova, and Drobyshevo (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 230 troops, two armoured personnel carriers, including one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, five armoured fighting vehicles, including three U.S.-made HMMWV armoured vehicles, 28 motor vehicles, two self-propelled artillery systems, one Romanian-made APR-40 MLRS launcher, and nine electronic warfare stations have been neutralised. Five ammunition depots were eliminated.

The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Russian troops hit formations of three mechanised brigades, an airmobile brigade of the AFU, and a territorial defence brigades near Krivaya Luka, Nikolayevka, Stepanovka, Kramatorsk, Vasyukovka, Ivanopolye, and Seversk (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy lost more than 235 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 19 motor vehicles, and one artillery gun. Three depots of materiel and fuel were destroyed.

The Tsentr Group of Forces' units improved the situation along the front line. In addition, strikes were delivered at manpower and hardware of a mechanised brigade, an airmobile brigade, two air assault brigades, a jaeger brigade, a special operations brigade, two assault regiments of the AFU and a marine brigade have been hit close to Artyomovka, Toretskoye, Dobropolye, Sergeyevka, Belitskoye, Rodinskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Novopavlovka, and Ivanovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).

In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault groups of the 2nd Army have completely liberated the Gornyak and Shakhtersky microdistricts, and continue to mop up Rovnoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

Russian troops repelled eight attacks of the 82nd and the 95th air assault brigades and the 425th Assault Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic) launched to unblock an encircled group of the AFU.

In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), assault detachments of the 51st Army continue to push the enemy out of the Vostochny and Zapadny microdistricts, and southern part of the city. More than 148 buildings have been liberated.

Over the past 24 hours in Krasnoarmeysk direction, up to 250 troops, two armoured personnel carriers, one pickup truck, and two field artillery guns have been engaged.

In total, more than 425  troops, six armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made HMMWV armoured vehicle, 10 motor vehicles, and one U.S.-made M777 howitzer, have been neutralised in the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility.

As a result of active offensive actions, units of the Vostok Group of Forces liberated Zatishye (Zaporozhye region).

Russian troops inflicted losses on the formations of two assault brigades and two assault regiments of the AFU have been hit close to Malinovka, Gulyaipole, Vozdvizhevka, Dobropolye (Zaporozhye region) and Otradnoye (Dnepropetrovsk region).

Up to 245 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 11 motor vehicles, and one Israeli-made RADA radar station have been neutralised.

The Dnepr Group's units inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of a mechanised brigade, a coastal defence brigade of the AFU, and the territorial defence brigade near Novoandreyevka, Stepovoye, Stepnogorsk (Zaporozhye region), and Pridneprovskoye (Kherson region).

More than 70 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 21 motor vehicles, one field artillery gun, seven electronic warfare stations, and six ammunition, materiel, and fuel depots have been neutralised.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack drones, missile troops, and artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have inflicted damage on Ukrainian energy, transport and port infrastructure, which are used in the interests of the AFU, ammunition depots, temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 152 areas.

Air defence systems shot down 345 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 98,278 unmanned aerial vehicles, 638 anti-aircraft missile systems, 26,216 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,619 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,510 field artillery guns and mortars, and 47,531 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.
