A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 137 combat clashes. Ukrainian defenders are decisively intercepting the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.
Today, Russian troops launched one missile and 47 air strikes, used two missiles and dropped 101 controlled air bombs. In addition, 3435 kamikaze drones were involved in strikes and carried out 3332 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
Ukrainian soldiers repelled seven Russian assault actions in the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions since the beginning of the day. In addition, the Russian enemy launched four air strikes, dropping 10 controlled airstrikes, as well as carrying out 125 shells to positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, seven of which were from reactive systems of open-air fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, the Russian enemy six times stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Vovchansk and towards the settlement of Dvorichansk.
In the Kupyansky direction, the Russian aggressor carried out offensive actions three times in the areas of the settlements of Pičnna and Stepova Novoselivka.
In the Lyman direction, Russian invaders nine times attacked the positions of the Defense Forces near the settlements of Noviy Mir, Zarichne and Drobisheve.
Ten enemy assaults were repelled by Ukrainian defenders in the Slavic direction - the occupiers tried to advance in Dronivka, Serebryanka, Siversk and Fedorivka areas.
In the Kramators обоkomu direction, the Russian opponent twice tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian defenders, in the areas of Stupočok and Orihovo-Vasilívka.
In the Konstantinivka direction 19 times Russians went into offensive on the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of Scherbinivka, Oleksandr-Shultiny, Rusiny Yara, Yablunivka and towards Konstantinovka and Sofiyivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction since the beginning of the day, the Russian occupiers tried 34 times to advance on the position of Ukrainian units. The Russian enemy attacked in the areas of settlements Mayak, Fedorivka, Rodinske, Chervony Lyman, Lisivka, Pokrovsk, Kotline, Udaachne, Molodetske and Dachne. In the two locations, the fights have not subsided yet.
According to preliminary data, today 103 Russian occupants were defecated in this direction, 79 of them - irrevocably. Also Ukrainian soldiers damaged the unit of automobile equipment and 18 unmanned aircraft; nine shelters for the Russian enemy's personnel were affected.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Russian forces tried 13 times to break through the defense of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of the settlements of Zeleny Gai, Vorone, Sosnivka, Berezove, Krasnogírske and Pershotravneve. One battle is going on.
In the direction of Gulyajpil, the Russian enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders ten times in the areas of the settlements of Solodke, Rivnopilla, Yablukove and Zeleny Grove.
In the Orihivs лиkomu direction, the Russian occupiers once stepped towards the settlement of Primorske.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, the Russian enemy twice in vain tried to approach the positions of Ukrainian defenders.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
As a result of intensive operations, units of the Sever Group of Forces liberated the village of Dvurechanskoye (Kharkov region).
Russian troops inflicted losses on formations of two mechanised brigades and one jaeger brigade of the AFU near Alekseyevka, Katerinovka, Kondratovka, Novaya Sech, and Shevchenkovo (Sumy region).
In Kharkov direction, units of one motorised infantry brigade, one mechanised brigade, and one assault regiment of the AFU have been hit near Zhovtnevoye, Kolodeznoye, and Malinovka (Kharkov region).
Up to 150 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 13 motor vehicles, and one field artillery gun of the AFU have been neutralised. One ammunition depot was destroyed.
The Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line. Russian troops hit manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades of the AFU and two territorial defence brigades near Kurilovka, Petropavlovka, Putnikovo (Kharkov region) and Dronovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Assault detachments of the 6th Army continue to destroy encircled enemy units close to Kupyansk (Kharkov region).
Over the past 24 hours, two attempts to conduct counter-attacks and unblock the encircled enemy units by formations of the 125th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU near Blagodatovka (Kharkov region) and the 15th National Guard Brigade near Velikaya Shapkovka (Kharkov region) have been thwarted.
As a result, up to 50 troops, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, one Canadian-made Senator armoured fighting vehicle, four electronic warfare stations, and seven motor vehicles of the AFU were neutralised.
In total, up to 230 troops, one tank, three armoured fighting vehicles, 24 motor vehicles, and one UK-made 105-mm L-119 howitzer of the AFU were neutralised in the Zapad Group's area of responsibility. Four ammunition depots and 10 electronic warfare stations were destroyed.
As a result of resolute operations, units of the Yug Group of Forces liberated Platonovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Three mechanised brigades of the AFU were hit near Konstantinovka, Raigorodok, and Seversk (Donetsk People's Republic).
The enemy lost up to 210 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 20 motor vehicles, one field artillery gun, two electronic warfare stations, and one ammunition depot.
The Tsentr Group's units continue to advance into the depths of the enemy's defence. Russian formations inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades, two air assault brigades, one jaeger brigade of the AFU, one marine brigade, one territorial defence brigade, and one national guard brigade close to Artemovka, Belitskoye, Grishino, Kucherov Yar, Novoaleksandrovka, Oktyabrskoye, Rodinskoye, Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Demurino, and Ivanovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).
In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault groups of the 2nd Army continue to neutralise surrounded AFU units in the Tsentralny District and in western parts of Gornyak district, as well as in the western industrial area. Russian troops continue mopping up Ukrainian militants in Rovnoye (Donetsk People's Republic).
Five attacks of the 425th Skala Assault Regiment units, and the 32nd Mechanised Brigade of the AFU, attempting to unblock the enemy group, were repelled in the area of Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic).
Up to 25 troops and one armoured fighting vehicle of the AFU were neutralised.
In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), units of the 51st Army continue offensive operations in Vostochny District and southern part of the city.
Assault groups of the 5th Motorised Rifle Brigade conduct successful combat operations near Zapadny District. More than 30 buildings have been liberated.
Over the past 24 hours, up to 290 troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, four pickup trucks, and one field artillery gun of the AFU have been neutralised in Krasnoarmeysk direction.
In total, up to 490 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, eight motor vehicles, and one field artillery gun of the AFU were neutralised in the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility.
As a result of resolute operations, units of the Vostok Group of Forces liberated Gai (Dnepropetrovsk region).
Russian troops inflicted losses on the formations of one assault brigade of the AFU and two territorial defence brigades close to Ostapovskoye, Radostnoye (Dnepropetrovsk region), Vozdvizhenka, and Chervonoye (Zaporozhye region).
The AFU losses amounted to more than 215 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, seven motor vehicles, and three field artillery guns.
Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade of the AFU and one territorial defence brigade near Belogorye, Orekhov, and Stepnogorsk (Zaporozhye region).
More than 80 troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, 13 motor vehicles, two field artillery guns, six electronic warfare stations, one ammunition depot, and five materiel depots of the AFU were neutralised.
Operational-tactical aviation, attack drones, missile troops and artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have inflicted damage on the POL and power supply complex and railway infrastructure used in the interests of the AFU, long-range unmanned aerial vehicles storage sites, temporary deployment areas of the AFU, and foreign mercenaries in the 142 areas.
Air defence systems have shot down 104 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation the enemy has lost 668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 97,097 unmanned aerial vehicles, 636 anti-aircraft missile systems, 26,071 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,613 MLRS fighting vehicles, 31,363 field artillery guns and mortars, and 46,914 special military vehicles.
