A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the day, there have been 157 combat clashes.
The Russian enemy launched one rocket and 32 air strikes, used one rocket and dropped 75 controlled air bombs. Also used 2,748 kamikaze drones for strikes, carried out 3,243 shells of settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.
Ukrainian defenders repelled 14 Russian attacks in the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursky directions. The Russian enemy launched one air strike, dropped three controlled air bombs and carried out 111 shells, two from reactive systems of assault-fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, Ukrainian units stopped three Russian attacks near Vovchansky, Lyman and Sinelnikovy, another combat confrontation is ongoing.
In the Kupians ськаkomu direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled six Russian attacks in the areas of Pi Наany, Petropavlivka and Kupiansk. Another combat encounter is currently underway.
In the Lymans Ноkomu direction, there were two combat clashes near the settlement of Novoselívka.
In the Slovak direction, the Russian opponent carried out offensive actions ten times in the areas of Serebryanka, Siverska, Svyato-Pokrovsky, Pazeno and Dronivka. Ukrainian defenders have stopped nine Russian assaults, another combat is still ongoing.
In the Kramators Краkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled one Russian assault towards the settlement of konstantinivka.
In the Konstantinivsky direction, the Russian occupiers today attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of the settlements of Pleshiyivka, Rusin Yar, Sofiyivka, Scherbinivka, Yablunivka, Ivanopilla, Stepanivka and in the direction of the settlement of Nikolaypilla. Defense forces are steadily suppressing the pressure and repelled 15 Russian attacks, currently fighting is being sharpened in two locations.
Throughout the current day, the Russian enemy has committed 34 offensive actions in the Pokrovsky direction. The activity of Russian occupiers was fixed near the settlements of Rodinske, Chervony Lyman, Mirnograd, Nikanorivka, Kotline, Udaachne, Novopidgorodne, Pokrovsk, Rivne, Zvirove, Novopavlivka, Molodetske, Dachne and Philia. One fighting encounter is still going on.
Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, 83 Russian occupants were defiled, of which 60 - irrevocably. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed 24 unmanned aircraft and two special equipment units of the Russian occupiers. Two artillery systems, two units of automotive equipment and one jet fire system were also affected.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Ukrainian units repelled 16 attacks in areas of settlements Sosnivka, Verbove, Privilne, Berezove, Stepovo, Krasnogirsk, Oleksiyivka, Yegorivka and Zlagoda. The Russian enemy launched aviation strikes on the areas of the settlements of Velikomikhaillivka, Ostapivske and Kosivtseve.
In the Gulyaipil direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 18 Russian attacks near the settlements of Yablukove, Zatishya, Varvarivka, Pryluki, Gulyaipole, Malinivka, Vysoke. Aviation strikes were hit by settlements Varvarivka, Ternuvate and Bilogir.
In the Orihiv direction, Russian forces twice attacked the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of Mala Tokmačka and Stepnogirsk.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, the Russian enemy tried to approach the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the direction of the Antonivsky Bridge three times. Never been successful. In addition, the Russian occupiers staged an air strike on Olgivka.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
Sever Group's units inflicted fire damage on formations of two mechanised brigades, one assault regiment of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade near Andreyevka, Varachino (Sumy region), and the city of Sumy.
In Kharkov direction, units of the AFU mechanised brigade and one territorial defence brigade have been hit near Volchansk and Gnilitsa (Kharkov region).
The enemy lost up to 105 troops, nine motor vehicles, one Western-made artillery gun, and two electronic warfare stations.
The Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Russian units engaged manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the AFU and one national guard brigade have been hit near Blagodatovka, Nechvolodovka, Monachinovka, and Kurilovka (Kharkov region).
The enemy losses amounted to up to 220 troops, five armoured fighting vehicles, 14 motor vehicles, and 13 electronic warfare stations. Four field ammunition depots were destroyed.
As a result of resolute actions, units of the Yug Group of Forces liberated Zvanovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Losses were inflicted on formations of one mechanised brigade, one airmobile brigade, one jaeger brigade, and one mountain assault brigade of the AFU have been hit close to Platonovka, Reznikovka, Sergeyevka, and Seversk (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 230 troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, two artillery guns, and 13 motor vehicles. Three electronic warfare stations and three materiel depots were neutralised.
The Tsentr Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades, one air assault brigade, one airmobile brigade, one assault regiment of the AFU, the Azov Special Forces Brigade, two marine brigades, two territorial defence brigades, and one national guard brigade have been hit near Artyomovka, Rusin Yar, Toretskoye, Novy Donbass, Rodinskoye, Volnoye, Belitskoye, Kucherov Yar (Donetsk People's Republic), and Novopavlovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).
In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault groups of the 2nd Army continue to destroy encircled enemy units in Tsentralny and Gornyak microdistricts, as well as in the western industrial area.
Russian troops continue mopping up Ukrainian militants in Rovnoye (Donetsk People's Republic). Over the past day, three Ukrainian servicemen laid down their arms and left for Russian positions with a view to surrender voluntarily.
Five enemy attacks were repelled from the area of Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic) in order to unblock an encircled group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Up to 30 troops and two armoured personnel carriers were neutralised.
In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), assault detachments of the 51st Army continue offensive operations in Vostochny and Zapadny microdistricts, as well as in the southern part of the settlement. More than 22 buildings have been liberated.
Over the past 24 hours in Krasnoarmeysk direction, up to 250 troops, two armoured personnel carriers, two field artillery guns, and one motor vehicle have been neutralised.
In total, more than 510 troops, seven armoured fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, and two artillery guns have been eliminated in the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility.
As a result of active offensive actions, units of the Vostok Group of Forces liberated Novoye Zaporozhye (Zaporozhye region).
Russian troops inflicted losses on the formations of two assault brigades and two assault regiments of the AFU have been hit close to Dobropolye, Ravnopolye, Zatishye (Zaporozhye region), and Otradnoye (Dnepropetrovsk region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 225 troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, six motor vehicles, and one electronic warfare station.
The Dnepr Group's units inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade of the AFU and one territorial defence brigade near Orekhov (Zaporozhye region) and Nikolskoye (Kherson region).
Moreover, up to 40 troops, two tanks, 17 motor vehicles, one field artillery gun, and three electronic warfare stations, one ammunition depot, and five materiel depots were neutralised.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack drones, missile troops, and artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have inflicted losses on assembly workshops, storage and launch sites of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles and uncrewed surface vehicles, energy and transport infrastructure facilities of Ukraine used in the interests of the AFU, as well as temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 156 areas.
Air defence systems shot down 155 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 97,793 unmanned aerial vehicles, 637 anti-aircraft missile systems, 26,174 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,618 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,467 field artillery guns and mortars, and 47,315 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.
