A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 161 combat encounters. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively give an offence to the Russian enemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory.

Russian zagarbniki made 39 aviation strikes, dropping 82 controlled bombs. In addition, 2,357 kamikaze drones were recruited to impress and carried out 3008 shelling of positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions, one combat confrontation with Russian zagarbnikami took place. The Russian enemy launched two air strikes, dropped five controlled bombs, launched 106 shells on positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, one of which was from reactive arson systems.
Today, the Russian opponent attacked six times the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the south-Slobozhans Сьогодніkomu direction in the areas of Sinelnikovoye, Vovchansk and towards Kolodâznogo.
In the direction of Kupyans щаkomu, the Russian enemy today committed two offensive actions towards Pishany.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled ten Russian assault actions in the area of settlements Novoegorivka, Grekivka, Shandrigolove, Mirne, Kolodyazi and Novoselivka.
In the Slovak direction, the Russian enemy attacked 13 times near Serebryanka, Dronivka, Siverska, Viimki, Pereíznogo and towards Zvanívka. There are two fighting clashes so far.
In the Kramatorsky direction, Russian forces six times attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders near the settlements of Novomarkove, Chasiv Yar and towards Predtečiny and Stupochok. The fights are ongoing in two locations.
23 combat clashes took place in the Konstantinivsky direction today. The Russian enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of settlements Oleksandro-Shultine, Scherbinivka, Pleshiyivka, Kleban-Bik, Yablunivka, Rusin Yar and towards Sofiyivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction from the beginning of this day, the Russian opponent 56 times attacked in the areas of settlements Volodymyrivka, Nikanorivka, Rodinske, Chervony Lyman, Novoekonomíčne, Pokrovsk, Lisivka, Udaachne, Molodetske, Novosergíivka, Philia, Dachne and towards Novopavlivka. Five combat clashes are ongoing so far.
Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, 83 occupants were defiled, 59 of which - irrevocably. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed two units of automotive equipment, hit the control point of the BPLA and five personnel shelters.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 Russian attacks in the areas of settlements Zeleny Gai, Privilne, Sosnivka, Stepovo, Rybne and Krasnogirske.
In the direction of Gulyajpíl, the Russian aggressor tried ten times to go ahead on the position of Ukrainian troops in the areas of Yablukovoye and Rivnopil.
In the Orihívs захиkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attacks in the area of Kamiansky and towards Stepnogirsk.
In the Pridnipro direction, the Russian enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to approach the positions of Ukrainian units in the direction of Antonivsky Bridge.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on formations of two mechanised brigades, one jaeger brigade of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade near Alekseyevka, Varachino, Katerinovka, Novaya Sech, Pisarevka, and Yunakovka (Sumy region).

In Kharkov direction, units of one national guard regiment were hit near Volchansk (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 250 troops, one tank, three infantry fighting vehicles, 18 motor vehicles, six field artillery guns, two electronic warfare stations, and five ammunition and materiel depots.

The Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line. Russian troops inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the AFU, and one national guard brigade near Kurilovka, Kucherovka, Monachinovka, Nechvolodovka, Podoly (Kharkov region) and Drobyshevo (Donetsk People's Republic).

In Kupyansk (Kharkov region), assault detachments of the 6th Army continue to mop up city quarters and eliminate remaining enemy units.

Two attacks of the 125th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU and the 15th National Guard Brigade to unblock the encircled formations and move towards the Oskol River to restore a destroyed crossing were repelled near Blagodatovka and Kutkovka (Kharkov region). The enemy has lost up to 15 militants.

In addition, up to 50 troops, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, three Kazak armoured fighting vehicles, one Canadian-made Senator armoured vehicle, five motor vehicles, one Romanian-made APR-40 MLRS, one Strela-10 anti-aircraft missile system, and four electronic warfare radio stations of the AFU were neutralised.

In total, more than 230 servicemen, one tank, one Shkval infantry fighting vehicle, one armoured personnel carrier, four armoured fighting vehicles, 16 motor vehicles, and one field artillery gun of the AFU were neutralised in the Zapad Group's area of responsibility. One MLRS launcher, one anti-aircraft missile system, ten electronic warfare stations, and five ammunition depots were neutralised.

The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Russian troops hit one mechanised brigade, one assault brigade, one airmobile brigade of the AFU and one marine brigade near Berestok, Zakotnoye, Zvanovka, Ivanopolye, Konstantinovka, Nikolayevka, Reznikovka, Seversk, Slavyansk, and Stepanovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy lost more than 190 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, and 14 motor vehicles. One electronic warfare station and four ammunition, materiel, and POL depots were neutralised.

The Tsentr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Strikes were delivered at manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades,one assault brigade, one jaeger brigade, one air assault brigade, two assault regiments of the AFU, one marine brigade, one territorial defence brigade, and three national guard brigades close to Belitskoye, Grishino, Novopavlovka, Novy Donbass, Oktyabrskoye, Rodinskoye, Rozy Luksemburg, and Shevchenko (Donetsk People's Republic).

In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault groups of the 2nd Army continue to destroy enemy units in Tsentralny and Gornyak districts, as well as in the western industrial area. Russian troops continue mopping up Ukrainian militants in Rovnoye (Donetsk People's Republic). Over the past 24 hours, four AFU servicemen surrendered voluntarily.

Six attacks of the 32nd Mechanised Brigade and the 425th Skala Assault Regiment of the AFU attempting to unblock an encircled group of the AFU were repelled from the area of Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic). Up to 30 militants and one Kazak armoured vehicle of the AFU were neutralised.

In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), assault detachments of the 51st Army continue offensive operations in Vostochny and Zapadny districts, as well as in the southern part of the settlement.

Over the past 24 hours, up to 180 servicemen, four armoured personnel carriers, five armoured fighting vehicles, four pickup trucks, and two artillery guns of the AFU have been neutralised in Krasnoarmeysk direction.

In total, up to 400 troops, two Swedish-made Viking armoured personnel carriers, two U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, six armoured fighting vehicles, seven motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, and one field artillery gun of the AFU were neutralised in the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces continue to advance into the depths of the enemy's defence, as a result of intensive operations, Veseloye was liberated in Zaporozhye region.

Strikes were delivered at formations of two assault brigades and three assault regiments of the AFU near Velikomikhaylovka, Pokrovskoye (Dnepropetrovsk region), Gulyaipole, Yablokovo, and Dobropolye (Zaporozhye region).

The AFU lost more than 250 troops, one tank, seven motor vehicles, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and two electronic warfare stations.

The Dnepr Group's units inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade of the AFU and one territorial defence brigade near Orekhov, Stepnogorsk (Zaporozhye region), Nikolskoye in Kherson region and the city of Kherson.

Up to 50 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, six motor vehicles, six electronic warfare stations, and two ammunition and materiel depots of the AFU have been neutralised.

Operational-tactical aviation, attack drones, missile troops and artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces destroyed two U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS launchers, and hit Ukraine's energy infrastructure facilities used in the interests of the AFU, combat service support depots, long-range unmanned aerial vehicles storage areas, temporary deployment areas of AFU and foreign mercenaries in 146 areas.

Air defence systems shot down four British-made Storm Shadow cruise air-to-surface missiles and 119 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the enemy has lost 668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 97,515 unmanned aerial vehicles, 637 anti-aircraft missile systems, 26,134 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,618 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,426 field artillery guns and mortars, and 47,170 special military vehicles.
