A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to withhold the pressure of the occupation troops.
So far, 195 combat encounters have taken place. Today, the Russian state made 43 aviation strikes, dropped 105 controlled air bombs. In addition, the Russian zombies engaged 2,322 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,274 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
In the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, the Russian enemy launched one aviation strike, dropped three controlled air bombs, carried out 87 shells, including five - from jet systems of fire.
Today, Russian forces attacked six times in the South Slobozhansky direction near Vovchansky and in the directions of Dvorichansky and Obuhivka. There is still one combat going on.
Eight times the Russian aggressor tried to advance to Ukrainian positions in the Kupyansk direction in the areas of the settlements of Pietčnija, Kupyansk, Golubivka.
In the Lyman direction for today Ukrainian defenders repelled 17 Russian attacks. The Russian enemy came in the areas of the settlements of Cherneshina, New Mir, Grekivka, Karpivka, Korovij Yar, Drobisheve, Yampolivka, Terni and Zarichne. The two fighting clashes are still ongoing.
Ukrainian soldiers repelled eight Russian attacks in the Slovenian direction. Units of the occupiers tried to advance in the areas of the settlements of Yampil, Serebryanka, Fedorivka, Siversk, Viymka and Zvanivka. One fight is still going on.
In the Kramators біkomu direction, five combat clashes with the Russian enemy in the areas of May, Virolyubivka and Chasovoy Yar.
In the Konstantinivka direction, Ukrainian troops today repelled 27 Russian attacks in the areas of settlements of Konstyantinivka, Cherbynivka, Pleshiyivka, Rusin Yar, Poltavka, Sofiyivka and in the direction of Novopavlivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction during this day the Russian aggressor 66 times attacked Ukrainian positions in the areas of the settlements of Volodymyrivka, Bilitske, New Shahove, Nikanorivka, Red Lyman, Mirnograd, Rodinske, Novoekonomíčne, Pokrovsk, Dry Yar, Kotline, Udačne, Shahove, Molodetske, Novomikolaivka, Dachne, Filiya and in the direction of Novopídgorodne, Grishine, Kucherív Yar, Vilne. One attack is still going on.
According to preliminary calculations, today on the Pokrovsky direction the occupiers lost 117 people killed and injured. Ukrainian soldiers destroyed one artillery system, 15 unmanned aircraft, four car units and three special equipment units.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 21 Russian attacks near the settlements of Green Grove, Yalta, Andriyivka-Klevtsove, Oleksandrograd, Voskresenka, Stepove, Sosnivka, Verbove, Oleksiyivka, Pavlivka, Privilne, Krasnogirskke, Zlagoda. The Russian enemy launched aviation strikes in the areas of populated points of Demurine and Danilivka.
In the direction of Gulyaipil, the Russian enemy 14 times attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders near the settlements of Dobropillya, Rivnopillya, Zeleniy Grove, Vesele, Bilogirya, Vysoke, Ternuvate and in the direction of Zatishya. One battle clash is still going on. The settlements of Gulyaipole, Vozdvizhenko, Bilogirya and Ternuvate suffered airstrikes.
In the Orihiv direction, the Defense Forces stopped one Russian offensive action in the Stepnogirsk district.
Ukrainian defenders repelled one attack of the Russian invaders in the direction of Antonivsky Bridge in the direction of the Pridniprovskyi direction. Sadove was under the airstrike.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
As a result of resolute actions, the Sever Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Losses were inflicted on formations of one jaeger brigade and one unmanned system battalion of the AFU near Katerinovka, Alekseyevka, Velikaya Chernetchina, and Khrapovshchina (Sumy region).
In Kharkov direction, losses were inflicted on units of one motorised infantry brigade, one heavy mechanised brigade, and one assault regiment of the AFU near Revolyutsionnoye, Zhovtnevoye, Malinovka, Kolodeznoye, and Stary Saltov (Kharkov region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 125 troops and four motor vehicles. One ammunition depot was wiped out.
The Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the forward edge. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade of the AFU and two territorial defence brigades near Petropavlovka, Kurilovka, Putnikovo (Kharkov region), and Dronovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Assault detachments of the 6th Army continue to eliminate encircled AFU formations near Kupyansk (Kharkov region).
Over the past 24 hours, two attacks launched by units of the 151st Mechanised Brigade of the AFU and 1st National Guard Brigade to release the encircled Ukrainian formations were repelled near Osinovo and Zapadnoye (Kharkov region). The AFU losses amounted to up to 10 troops and one pickup truck.
As a result, the AFU losses in Kupyansk direction amounted to up to 50 troops, two mortars, one electronic warfare station, and five motor vehicles.
In the Zapad Group's area of responsibility, the AFU losses amounted to up to 230 troops, five armoured fighting vehicles, 19 motor vehicles, one Romanian-made APR-40 MLRS launcher, two artillery guns, including one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system. Four ammunition depots, one Plastun electronic reconnaissance system, and four electronic warfare stations were destroyed.
The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Losses were inflicted on formations of two mechanised brigades of the AFU near Seversk, Raigorodok, and Konstantinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 80 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 19 motor vehicles, four field artillery guns, two electronic warfare stations, two ammunition depots, and one materiel depot.
The Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depths of enemy defence. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades, three air assault brigades, two jaeger brigades, one assault regiment of the AFU, one marine brigade, one territorial defence brigade, and two national guard brigades near Artemovka, Rodinskoye, Oktyabrskoye, Novoaleksandrovka, Kucherov Yar, Belitskoye, Toretskoye, Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic), Novopodgorodnoye, and Ivanovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).
In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault detachments of the 2nd Army continued to eliminate the encircled AFU formations in the western part of the town, northwestern and eastern neighbourhoods of the Tsentralny district, and in the western industrial area. Russian troops mop up Ukrainian militants in Rovnoye (Donetsk People's Republic).
Six attacks launched by units of the AFU 425th Skala Assault Regiment from Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic) to release the encircled group of the AFU troops were repelled.
An attempt of a unit of the AFU 155th Mechanised Brigade to break through the encirclement in the north was thwarted.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 30 Ukrainian troops and one infantry fighting vehicle.
In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), units of the 51st Army continued to advance in the Vostochny neighbourhood and the southern part of the town.
Assault detachments of the 5th Motorised Rifle Brigade approached the Zapadny neighbourhood. Russian troops liberated 33 buildings.
Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses in Krasnoarmeysk direction amounted to up to 280 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, and one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer.
In the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility, the AFU losses amounted to up to 470 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, and one electronic warfare station.
As a result of resolute actions, units of the Vostok Group of Forces liberated Rovnopolye (Zaporozhye region).
Losses were inflicted on formations of two assault brigades of the AFU and one territorial defence brigade near Gulaipole, Pokrovskoye (Zaporozhye region), Gerasimovka, and Orly (Dnepropetrovsk region).
The AFU losses amounted to more than 235 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, 14 motor vehicles, one artillery gun, and two materiel depots.
Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces completed the liberation of Malaya Tokmachka (Zaporozhye region).
Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of one heavy mechanised brigade of the AFU near Malokaterinovka, Orekhov, and Stepnogorsk (Zaporozhye region).
The AFU losses amounted to more than 110 troops, one tank, one armoured fighting vehicle, 14 motor vehicles, two field artillery guns, seven electronic warfare stations, two ammunition depots, and one materiel depot.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces destroyed two Neptune mobile coastal missile systems, one U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS launcher, struck fuel and energy infrastructure ensuring operations of Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, one long-range unmanned aerial vehicle workshop as well as temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian formations and foreign mercenaries in 141 areas.
Air defence units shot down one guided aerial bomb, four U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, two Neptune long-range guided missiles, and 197 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the enemy has lost:
668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 96,993 unmanned aerial vehicles, 636 anti-aircraft missile systems, 26,056 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,613 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,340 field artillery guns and mortars, 46,799 support military vehicles.
