A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 248 combat clashes.
Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively interrupt the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.
Russian invaders launched 27 air strikes, dropped 81 controlled bombs. In addition, 1423 kamikaze drones were recruited for impact and carried out 2,681 shelling of positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
Three combat clashes took place in the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions. The Russian enemy launched five aviation strikes, dropped 13 controlled aviation bombs in total and carried out 132 shells, including three from the jet systems of salpovogo fire.
Today, Russian forces attacked 23 times in the South-Slobozhansky direction in the districts of Vovchansky, Sinelnikovy, Tikhoy, Kamyanka, Bologivka and in the direction of Dvorichansky. The four clashes are still ongoing.
In the Kupians іkomu direction, the Russian opponent made six attacks towards Petropavlivka and Pi іany. The two clashes are still ongoing.
In the Lymanian direction, the Defense Forces repelled 20 assault actions in the areas of settlements Borivska Andriyivka, Tverdohlibove, Ridkodub, Derylove, Novoselivka, Torske and in the direction of settlements Chervony Stav, Stavki, Korovyn Yar, Drobisheve.
In the Slavic direction, the Russian enemy attacked 13 times in the areas of yampol, serebryanka, dronivka and sivers тьka, two combat still ongoing.
In the Kramators Наkomu direction, Ukrainian warriors repelled two Russian offensive actions, in the area of Vasyukivka and in the direction of Minkivka.
27 combat clashes took place in the Konstantinivsky direction today. Russian forces tried to storm the positions of Ukrainian units near the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultine, Bila Gora, Scherbinivka, Pleshiyivka, Rusyn Yar and towards Sofiyivka and Illinivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction since the beginning of this day, the Russian enemy attacked 87 times in the areas of settlements Shahove, Nikanorivka, Bilitske, Zatishok, Red Lyman, Rodinske, Zelene, Dachene, Lisivka, Novomikolaivka, Pokrovsk, Kotline, Udačne, Molodetske, Filia, Dachne and in the directions of New Shahovy, Sofiyivka, Rivnogo and Novopavlivka. Ukrainian defenders are holding back the pressure of the opponent, in some locations the fights are still ongoing.
Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, 75 Russian occupants were defiled, of which 43 - irrevocably. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed three motorcycles, one BPLA, two ground robotic complexes, six units of automobile and two units of special equipment, also three cars were hit, two shelters for the Russian enemy's personnel.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 26 Russian attacks in the areas of settlements Yalta, Ivanivka, Zeleny Gorge, Oleksandrograd, Novoselivka, Sichneve, Orestopil, Stepove, Rybne, Zlagoda, Verbove and in the direction of the settlement Andriyivka-Klevtsove. Pokrovskke, Radisne and New Zaporizhia were under aviation strikes.
In the direction of Gulyaipil, there were 12 clashes in the areas of the settlements of Green Grove, Merry, Sweet, Harmony and in the directions of Yablukovoy and Rivnopil. Dobropillya was hit by an air strike.
Eight clashes have taken place in the Orihivsky direction since the beginning of the day - the Russian occupiers tried to advance in the areas of Maliy Scherbaky, Stepovoy in the direction of Novoandriivka, Novodanilivka and Primorsky. The Russian opponent caused air strikes on lukânívs Проkomu and stepnogírs кku.
In the pridniprovsky direction the Defense Forces stopped the Russian enemy trying to move forward.
In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the environment.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
Units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on units of one jaeger brigade and two mechanised brigades of the AFU near Khoten, Pisarevka, Novaya Sech, Iskriskovshchina, and Kondratovka (Sumy region).
In Kharkov direction, units of one AFU motorised infantry brigade near Volchansk (Kharkov region) were hit.
The AFU losses amounted to more than 160 troops, 12 motor vehicles, and one 155-mm Bogdana self-propelled artillery system. One radar station, one ammunition depot, and three materiel depots were neutralised.
The Zapad Group's units improved the situation along the front line. They inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one tank brigade, two mechanised brigades of the AFU, one territorial defence brigade, and two national guard brigades near Grushevka, Kurilovka, Boguslavka, Kitsevka, Beryozovka (Kharkov region), Yarovaya, Dibrova, and Yampol (Donetsk People's Republic).
The 6th Army's assault detachments continue to eliminate the enemy's surrounded formations close to Kupyansk (Kharkov region).
Russian troops repelled six attacks of the AFU 151st and 116th Mechanised Brigades, the 1st and 13th National Guard Brigades from Monachinovka, Nechvolodovka, Kupyansk-Uzlovoy, Osinovo, and Petrovka (Kharkov region) to unblock the AFU surrounded formations.
Air surveillance posts and mobile firing groups shot down 16 Baba Yaga-type hexacopters, attempting to deliver ammunition and medical supplies to surrounded units.
Over the past 24 hours, up to 50 troops, two Kazak armoured fighting vehicles, one U.S.-made Paladin self-propelled artillery system, five pickup trucks, and two electronic warfare stations have been neutralised close to Kupyansk (Kharkov region).
In total, up to 220 troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, 20 motor vehicles, and two self-propelled artillery systems have been neutralised in the Zapad Group's area of responsibility. One U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-fire radar station, eight electronic warfare stations, and four ammunition depots were destroyed.
Units of the Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Losses were inflicted on formations of four mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one assault brigade, one airmobile brigade, one mountain assault brigade of the AFU and two territorial defence brigades near Konstantinovka, Zakotnoye, Stepanovka, Slavyansk, Seversk, Ivanopolye, Sofiyevka, and Zvanovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 130 troops, two tanks, two armoured fighting vehicles, 18 motor vehicles, and one 155 mm U.S.-made Paladin self-propelled artillery system. Two electronic warfare stations, two ammunition depots, and one fuel depot were wiped out.
Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. The Group's units inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of three jaeger brigades, two air assault brigades, three assault regiments of the AFU, four marine brigades, one territorial defence brigade, and four national guard brigades close to Grishino, Dimitrov, Roza Lyuksemburg, Artyomovka, Rodinskoye, Toretskoye, Kotlino, Belitskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), and Ivanovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).
In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault groups of the 2nd Army successfully carried out offensive actions in the Dinas microdistrict, as well as neutralised enemy units in the north-western and eastern quarters of the Tsentralny District and in the western part of industrial area.
Russian troops repelled seven Ukrainian attacks to unblock their encircled units in the area of Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic).
Eight enemy attempts to break through the encirclement ring in a northern direction were thwarted, and three servicemen of the AFU 32nd Mechanised Brigade were taken prisoner.
In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), units of the 51st Army of the 5th Motorised Rifle Brigade continued active offensive operations in the Vostochny microdistrict as well as in the southern part of the city and in the direction of Zapadny microdistrict.
Over the past 24 hours, more than 275 troops, two tanks, four armoured fighting vehicles, one pickup truck, and one Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system have been neutralised close to Krasnoarmeysk and Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic).
In total, up to 470 troops, two tanks, six armoured fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, and three artillery guns, including a 155-mm French-made Caesar self-propelled artillery system, have been neutralised in the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility.
The Vostok Group's units advanced to the depths of the enemy's defence and liberated Rybnoye in Zaporozhye region.
Two mechanised brigades, one assault regiment of the AFU and two territorial defence brigades were defeated near Yablokovo, Gulyai Pole, Novoye (Zaporozhye region), Velikomikhaylovka, and Nechayevka (Dnepropetrovsk region).
Up to 255 troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, 12 motor vehicles, four field artillery guns, and a counter-battery radar station of the AFU have been neutralised.
The Dnepr Group's units inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades and one coastal defence brigade of the AFU near Novoandreyevka, Stepnogorsk, Orekhov (Zaporozhye region) and Antonovka (Kherson region).
Up to 95 troops, 14 motor vehicles, one field artillery gun, eight electronic warfare stations, and two ammunition depots have been neutralised.
Operational-tactical aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops, and artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have inflicted damage on energy facilities that support the Ukrainian military industry enterprises, transport infrastructure used in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as temporary deployment points of Ukrainian formations and foreign mercenaries in 143 areas.
Air defence systems shot down one Neptune long-range guided missile, seven U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, and 247 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 95,801 unmanned aerial vehicles, 635 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25,925 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,611 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,194 field artillery guns and mortars, and 46,243 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.
