A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces are directing efforts to disrupt the execution of Russian invaders' offensive plans and exhaust their combat potential.
Since the beginning of the day, there have been 216 combat clashes.
The Russian enemy launched two rockets and 24 aviation strikes, used two missiles, dropped 58 controlled air bombs. In addition, carried out 2838 shelling and engaged for impression 2041 kamikadze drones.
Three attacks of Russian attackers took place in the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions. The Russian enemy launched three air strikes, dropped eight controlled aviation bombs, carried out 181 shelling, including 12 - from jet systems of salpovogo fire.
In the South Slobozhans ваюkomu direction, 17 fighting clashes took place in the districts of Vovchansk, Sinelnikovy and towards Dvorichansky and Grigorivka, three fighting clashes are still ongoing.
In the Kupâns кkomu direction, Russian forces made seven attacks on the position of Ukrainian troops towards Petropavlivka, Pi нашихany and Boguslavka. So far, two combat clashes are ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops 31 times stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of the settlements Ridkodub, Grekivka, Karpivka, Zarichne, Novoselivka and in the direction of settlements Noviy Mir, Glushchenkove, Novosergiyivka, Stavki, Drobisheve, Korovyn Yar, Lyman. Six clashes are still ongoing.
Ukrainian soldiers repelled seven Russian attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Slovenian direction today. Units of the Russian occupiers tried to advance in the areas of Dronivka, Yampol, Serebryanka and Viymki. Yet another battle is underway.
In the Kramators .komu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled one attack.
In the Konstantinivka direction, the Russian occupiers stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders 24 times today in the areas of the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultine, Pleshiyivka, Scherbinivka, Konstantynivka, Yablunivka, Rusin Yar and in the directions of the settlements Brestok and Sofiyivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction, the Russian enemy made 78 attempts to potisnisni Ukrainian units. The greatest activity is observed in the areas of settlements Shahove, Mayak, Novoekonomíčne, New Shahove, Rodins ,ke, Chervonyi Liman, Mirnograd, Novogrodivka, Zelene, Kotline, Udaachne, Molodetske, Novomikolaivka, Filia, Dachne and in the direction of Novopavlivka. There are four combat clashes so far.
According to preliminary calculations, in this direction Ukrainian warriors have eliminated 100 and wounded 39 Russian invaders, destroyed a car, a special equipment unit, four motorcycles, two unmanned aircraft and damaged three vehicles units and 14 invaders' personnel shelters.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, the Russian enemy attacked 13 times near the settlements of Andriyivka-Klevtsove, Sichneve, Sosnivka, Verbove, Zlagoda, Oleksandrograd, Stepove, Ribne.
Ukrainian soldiers repelled six attacks in the area of the settlement of Green Gorge. The Russian enemy launched air strikes on Varvarivka and Green Grove.
In the Orihivsky direction, the Russian zagarbnytsky troops attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders five times towards Primorsky and Novodanilivka. One fight is still going on.
In the Pridniprovsky direction from the beginning of the day, the Russian enemy committed two unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of the Antonivsky Bridge.
In other directions, significant changes in the environment have not been recorded.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
Units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of one mechanised brigade of the AFU and one territorial defence brigade near Alekseyevka, Vidnovka, and Yunakovka (Sumy region).
In Kharkov direction, losses were inflicted on units of one motorised infantry brigade of the AFU and one border detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine near Vysokoye, Proletarka, Sinelnikovo, and Volchansk (Kharkov region).
The AFU losses amounted to more than 100 troops, 13 motor vehicles, one radar station, and four materiel depots.
The Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the forward edge. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades of the AFU, one territorial defence brigade, and one national guard brigade near Petropavlovka, Kurilovka (Kharkov region), Svyatogorsk, Korovy Yar, and Dronovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Assault detachments of the 6th Army continued to eliminate the encircled group of the AFU troops near Kupyansk (Kharkov region).
One attack launched by assault detachments as part of the AFU 1st National Guard Brigade was repelled near Petrovka (Kharkov region).
As a result, the AFU losses amounted to up to 50 Ukrainian troops, one Canadian-made Senator armoured fighting vehicle, one mortar, four electronic warfare stations, and four pickup trucks.
In the Zapad Group's area of responsibility, the AFU losses amounted to up to 215 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, and 21 motor vehicles. Two ammunition depots and nine electronic warfare stations were destroyed.
The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Losses were inflicted on formations of one mechanised brigade, one motorised infantry brigade of the AFU, and one national guard brigade near Seversk, Zvanovka, Slavyansk, Kramotorsk, and Konstantinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 75 troops, one tank, three armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made HMMWV armoured fighting vehicle and one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, 18 motor vehicles, four electronic warfare stations, and one materiel depot.
The Tsentr Group's units improved the tactical situation. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of five mechanised brigades, two jaeger brigades, four air assault brigades, one airborne brigade, one airmobile brigade, four assault regiments of the AFU, one marine brigade, and three national guard brigades near Belitskoye, Shevchenko, Volnoye, Toretskoye, Rozy Lyuksemburg, Dobropolye, and Rodinskoye (Donetsk People's Republic).
In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault detachments of the 2nd Army engage in resolute offensive actions in the western part of the town, northwestern and eastern neighbourhoods of the Tsentralny district, and in the western industrial area.
Russian units completed mopping up Ukrainian militants in Sukhoy Yar in the Donetsk People's Republic.
Nine attacks of the 32nd Mechanised Brigade and 425th Skala Assault Regiment of the AFU from Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic), including attacks using armoured hardware, to release the encircled group of the AFU troops were repelled. 17 units of armoured hardware and up to 40 troops were eliminated.
In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), units of the 5th Motorised Rifle Brigade as part of the 51st Army continue to advance in the Vostochny neighborhood, in the southern part of the settlement, and towards the Zapadny neighborhood.
In Krasnoarmeysk direction, over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 250 troops, 22 units of weaponry and armoured hardware, including 12 armoured fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles.
In the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility, the AFU losses amounted to up to 450 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, four Western-made armoured personnel carriers, nine armoured fighting vehicles, eight pickup trucks, and one electronic warfare station.
The Vostok Group's units continued to advance to the depths of the enemy's defence. Losses were inflicted on formations of one mechanised brigade, one assault brigade, three assault regiments of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade near Orly, Orestopol, Nechayevka, Danilovka, Velikomikhaylovka (Dnepropetrovsk region), Zeleny Gai, and Sladkoye (Zaporozhye region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 250 troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, 14 motor vehicles, one field artillery gun, and one electronic warfare station.
Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade, one mountain assault brigade, and one coastal defence brigade of the AFU near Stepnogorsk, Malaya Tokmachka, Novoandreyevka (Zaporozhye region), and Nikolskoye (Kherson region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 60 troops, eight motor vehicles, one 155-mm Bogdana self-propelled artillery system, five electronic warfare stations, one electronic reconnaissance station, two radar stations, and four materiel depots.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack drones, missile troops and artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces struck fuel and energy and transport infrastructure used by the AFU, launch sites of unmanned aerial vehicles, air defence units positions, and temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 149 areas.
Air defence units shot down four U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 133 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation the enemy has lost:
668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 96,127 unmanned aerial vehicles, 636 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25,981 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,611 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,253 field artillery guns and mortars, 46,441 units of support military vehicles.
