A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 156 combat clashes. Ukrainian defenders are decisively intercepting the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.
Today, Russian troops launched one missile and 14 air strikes, using two rockets and dropping 30 controlled aviation bombs. In addition, 2,228 kamikaze drones were involved and executed 3,421 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
Ukrainian soldiers repelled nine Russian assault actions in the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursky directions. In addition, the enemy carried out 128 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, four of which were from reactive systems of assault fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, the Russian enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian units in the districts of Vovchansk, Vovchanskih Khutoriv and Kamyanka ten times. One battlefield not complete.
In the Kupiansky direction, the Russian aggressor carried out offensive actions in the areas of Pi греany, Petropavlivka, Kupiansky and Glushkivka. Ukrainian defenders have stopped four enemy attacks, six more combat clashes continue so far.
In the Lyman direction Russian zagarbniki four times attacked the positions of Defense Forces in the area of the settlement of Korovy Yar and in the direction of Lyman. One battle clash is still going on.
In the Slovenian direction, the Defense Forces repelled six Russian attacks in the areas of Serebryanka and Dronivka.
In the Kramators Наkomu direction today the Russian enemy did not carry out offensive actions.
11 combat clashes took place in the Konstantinivsky direction today. Russian forces tried to storm the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of the settlements of Pleshiyivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Rusyn Yar and Sofiyivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction from the beginning of this day, the Russian opponent 59 times attacked in the areas of populated areas of Pankivka, Shahove, Red Lyman, Rodins кke, Mikhailivka, Novoekonomíčne, Mirnograd, Novopavlivka, Rivne, Lisivka, Pokrovsk, Kotline, Udačne, Molodetske, Filia, Dachne. Ukrainian defenders keep the Russian pressure and have already stopped all attacks.
Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, 130 Russian occupants were defiled, of which 66 - irrevocably. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed 15 unmanned aircraft and 11 special equipment units, struck the drone control point and six units of enemy vehicles.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks of Russian invaders in the areas of settlements Ivanivka, Sosnivka, Vorone, Orestopil, Yegorivka. The two fighting clashes are still going on.
In the Gulyaipil direction, the Defense Forces successfully repelled seven Russian attacks in the area of Green Grove and in the direction of the settlement of Rivnopil.
In the Orihiv direction, the Russian occupiers tried to advance three times on the position of Ukrainian troops in the Primorsky area. The enemy did not succeed - Ukrainian defenders stopped all attempts of the Russian opponent.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, Russian units made two futile attempts to assault the positions of Ukrainian units in the direction of the Antonivsky Bridge.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in response to the terrorist attacks launched by Ukraine against civilian objects on the territory of Russia, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a group strike with high-precision weapons including Kinzhal hypersonic air-launched ballistic missiles as well as strike unmanned aerial vehicles at military airfields, the AFU signal intelligence centre, an armament depot to the Olkha MLRS system as well as long-range unmanned aerial vehicles assembly and storage facilities.
The targets were defeated, all the assigned facilities were neutralised.
The Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on units of four mechanised brigades, an assault regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a territorial defence brigade near Kiyanitsa, Malaya Korchakovka, Novaya Sech, Pavlovka, and Proletarskoye in Sumy region.
In Kharkov direction, units of an AFU motorised infantry brigade near Volchansk (Kharkov region) were hit.
The AFU losses amounted to more than 130 troops, 10 motor vehicles, and three field artillery guns including a U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer. An electronic warfare station and five material depots were neutralised.
The Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line. Russian troops engaged two mechanised brigades, two assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a national guard brigade near Berezovka, Kurilovka (Kharkov region), and Yampol (Donetsk People's Republic).
Assault detachments of the 6th Army continue to destroy the encircled enemy group close to Kupyansk (Kharkov region). Three attacks of the 92nd Assault Brigade of the AFU, and the 1st National Guard Brigade to unblock the encircled formations were repelled near Blagodatovka and Petrovka in Kharkov region.
In the past 24 hours, up to 50 troops, two M113 armoured personnel carriers, and three U.S.-made HMMWV armoured fighting vehicles, two pickup trucks, and four electronic warfare stations have been neutralised.
In total, over 210 troops, six armoured fighting vehicles, 10 motor vehicles, and one artillery gun were neutralised in the area of responsibility of the Zapad Group of Forces. Ten electronic warfare station and three ammunition depots have been destroyed.
The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Russian troops hit three mechanised brigades, an airmobile brigade, and an Azov special forces brigade close to Verolyubovka, Konstantinovka, Kramatorsk, Platonovka, Seversk, and Slavyansk (Donetsk People's Republic).
The enemy lost more than 70 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 14 motor vehicles, and four field artillery guns including a U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system. One electronic warfare station and six ammunition, fuel, and materiel depots were neutralised.
The Tsentr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Strikes were delivered at manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades, an infantry brigade, two jaeger brigades, an assault brigade, two air assault brigades, two assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, two marine brigades, a territorial defence brigade, and three national guard brigades close to Artyomovka, Belitskoye, Rozy Lyuksemburg, Rodinskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic, and Ivanovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).
During the neutralisation of the AFU encircled units near Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), units of the 1435th Motorised Rifle Regiment, 2nd Army, liberated Gnatovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
n Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), Russian assault groups conduct offensive actions in the Dinas microdistrict as well as in north-western and eastern quarters in of the Tsentralny District, and mop up western part of the industrial area.
In the past 24 hours, 244 buildings have been liberated.
Russian troops repelled seven Ukrainian attacks to unblock their encircled units in the area of Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic). In addition, two attempts of the 425th Skala Assault Regiment of the AFU to break through the encirclement in northern and north-western directions have been thwarted.
In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), of the 5th Motorised Rifle Brigade, 51st Army, are in the offensive in the Vostochny microdistrict and southern part of the settlement, and towards the Zapadny microdistrict.
In the past 24 hours, over 200 troops, a British-made Spartan armoured personnel carrier, a Kazak armoured fighting vehicle, and six pickup trucks have been neutralised in Krasnoarmeysk direction.
In total, up to 510 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, and six motor vehicles were neutralised in the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility.
The Vostok Group of Forces continues to advance to the depths of the enemy's defence. Novoye and Sladkoye (Zaporozhye region) have been liberated.
Three mechanised brigades, an assault brigade, an assault regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been hit near Aleksandrovka, Danilovka, Orestopol, Pokrovskoye (Dnepropetrovsk region), and Dobropolye (Zaporozhye region).
The AFU lost more than 235 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 14 motor vehicles, and four field artillery guns.
The Dnepr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Manpower and hardware of a mechanised brigade, a mountain assault brigade, two coastal defence brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a territorial defence brigade have been hit near Lukyanovskoye, Orekhov (Zaporozhye region), Ivanovka, and Nikolskoye (Kherson region).
Up to 70 troops, eight motor vehicles, a U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-fire radar, three electronic warfare stations, an ammunition depot, and two materiel depots have been neutralised.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack drones, missile troops and artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have inflicted losses on temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 136 areas.
Air defence units shot down six U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 124 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Black Sea Fleet destroyed four uncrewed AFU surface vehicles in the north-eastern part of the Black Sea.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation the enemy has lost: 668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 95,925 unmanned aerial vehicles, 635 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25,939 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,611 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,224 field artillery guns and mortars, and 46,305 units of support military vehicles.
