A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces are directing efforts to disrupt the execution of Russian invaders' offensive plans and exhaust their combat potential.
Since the beginning of the day, there have been 206 combat clashes.
The Russian enemy launched one missile and 22 air strikes, dropping 60 controlled air bombs, carrying out 2809 kamikaze drone strikes and 3231 shelling of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
In the North Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, 10 attacks of Russian invaders took place. The Russian enemy carried out 142 shelling, including three - from the reactive systems of zalpovogo fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, 16 fighting clashes took place in the areas of the settlements of Vovchansk, Vovchansk Hutory, Odradne and towards Dvorichansky, four fighting clashes are still ongoing.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces carried out 17 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the areas of Kupyansk, Stepova Novoselivka, Borivskaya Andriyivka and towards Glushkivka, Petropavlivka and Novoosinovogo. Nine combat clashes are ongoing so far.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders ten times in the areas of the settlements of Zarichne, Ridkodub, Nadia, Tverdohlibove, Kolodyazi and towards the settlement of Korovyn Yar. The one fighting encounter continues.
Ukrainian soldiers repelled eight Russian attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Slovak direction today. Units of the Russian occupiers tried to advance in the areas of Yampol, Serebryanka, Viymki and Dronivka.
In the kramators Наkomu direction at the moment boêzitknen ма is not recorded.
In the Konstantinivka direction, the Russian occupiers today stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders 14 times in the areas of the settlements of Bila Gora, Scherbinivka, Pleshiyivka, Konstantynivka, Yablunivka, Rusin Yar and towards Sofiyivka. Defense forces are repelling two more attacks of the opponent.
In the pokrovsky direction, the Russian enemy made 72 attempts to potisni Ukrainian units. The greatest activity is observed in the settlements of Volodymyrivka, Nikanorivka, Chervony Lyman, Mirnograd, Rodinske, Lisivka, Pokrovsk, Kotline, Udaachne, Molodetske and Novomikolaivka. Three combat clashes are ongoing so far.
According to preliminary calculations, in this direction Ukrainian soldiers eliminated 94 and wounded 27 Russian invaders, damaged seven units of automobile equipment and destroyed seven unmanned aircraft, Ukrainian soldiers hit the artillery system, four control points of the BPLA and eight shells of the Russian invaders.
In the Oleksandrivsky direction, Russian forces attacked 23 times near the settlements of Sosnivka, Stepovo, Novomykolaivka, Pershotravneve, Rybne and in the direction of Sweet. The fights continue in two locations.
Ukrainian soldiers repelled three attacks in the area of the settlement of Green Gai.
In the Orihiv direction, the Russian Zagarbnic .kí troops four times attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders towards the settlement Primorske.
In the Pridniprovsk direction from the beginning of the day, the Russian enemy did not carry out offensive actions.
In other directions, significant changes in the environment have not been recorded.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
Units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on units of one mechanised brigade, one assault regiment of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade close to Alekseyevka, Pavlovka, and Sadki (Sumy region).
In Kharkov direction, units of one motorised infantry brigade of the AFU were hit near Sinelnikovo and Volchansk (Kharkov region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 140 troops, four motor vehicles, and one field artillery gun. One ammunition depot and six materiel depots were neutralised.
The Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line. Strikes were delivered at manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the AFU and one national guard brigade near Petropavlovka, Kurilovka, Boguslavka, Novoplatonovka (Kharkov region), Drobyshevo, and Novoselovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Assault detachments of the 6th Army continue to destroy the encircled enemy group close to Kupyansk (Kharkov region). The eastern part of the city has been completely liberated.
The enemy leaves no attempt to break through to the surrounded units. Over the past 24 hours, an attack of the 1st National Guard Brigade units in order to unblock the surrounded units has been repelled in the southern area of Kupyansk-Uzlovoy (Kharkov region).
Up to 60 troops, 16 pieces of military hardware have been neutralised, including five armoured fighting vehicles, one counter-fire radar station, three electronic warfare stations, and five pickup trucks.
In total, more than 220 troops, seven armoured fighting vehicles, and 16 motor vehicles of the AFU have been neutralised in the area of responsibility of the Zapad Group of Forces. Four ammunition depots, eight electronic warfare and counter-fire stations were neutralised.
The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Formations of two mechanised brigades, one airmobile brigade of the AFU and one national guard brigade have been hit near Seversk, Zvanovka, Vasyukovka, Ivanopolye, Platonovka, Kuzminovka, Konstantinovka, Verolyubovka, Pleshcheyevka, and Klinovoye (Donetsk People's Republic).
The enemy lost more than 185 troops, one tank, three armoured fighting vehicles, 12 motor vehicles, and three field artillery guns. One ammunition depot and one materiel depot were eliminated.
The Tsentr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Russian troops inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of three mechanised, one jaeger brigade, one assault brigade, one air assault brigade, one assault regiment of the AFU, one marine infantry brigade, one territorial defence brigade, and two national guard brigades near Belitskoye, Toretskoye, Rozy Luksemburg, Suvorovo, and Rodinskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Ivanovka, and Novopavlovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).
In Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic), assault groups of the 2nd Army conduct intensive offensive actions in the north-western and eastern quarters of the Central District, as well as in the area of the train station's depot. In the past 24 hours, 256 buildings have been liberated. In addition, mopping up Rog (Donetsk People's Republic) from Ukrainian militants continues, and 98 buildings have been liberated.
Seven attacks were repelled, including three ones on armoured vehicles, one attack of the 32nd Mechanised Brigade of the AFU from the area of Grishino (Donetsk People's Republic) in order to unblock an encircled group of the AFU. Up to 17 units of military hardware and up to 30 troops of the AFU were neutralised.
An attempt to break through the encirclement of Ukrainian militants of the 38th Marine Brigade of the AFU in the direction of Novoekonomicheskoye (Donetsk People's Republic) was also thwarted.
In Dimitrov (Donetsk People's Republic), units of the 5th Motorised Rifle Brigade (51st Army) enlarge the offensive in the Vostochny District and in southern part of the settlement, and towards Zapadny microdistrict.
Over the past 24 hours, more than 236 troops and 27 different weapons of the AFU have been neutralised in Krasnoarmeysk direction, including seven armoured fighting vehicles, ten motor vehicles, and two artillery guns.
In total, more than 455 troops, 10 armoured fighting vehicles, five field artillery guns, and 13 motor vehicles of the AFU have been neutralised in the Tsentr Group's area of responsibility.
The Vostok Group's units continued to advance to the depths of the enemy's defence and completed liberation of Novouspenovskoye (Zaporozhye region).
The Group's units inflicted losses on formations of two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade, and one assault regiment of the AFU near Danilovka, Orestopol, Nechayevka (Dnepropetrovsk region), Rybnoye, Sladkoye, and Novoye (Zaporozhye region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 205 troops, four motor vehicles, and three materiel depots.
The Dnepr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade, one mountain assault brigade, one coastal defence brigade of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade have been hit near Stepnogorsk, Lukyanovskoye, Malaya Tokmachka, Novoandreyevka (Zaporozhye region) and Nikolskoye (Kherson region).
More than 50 troops, five motor vehicles, four electronic warfare stations, two ammunition depots, and two materiel depots have been neutralised.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack drones, missile troops and artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have inflicted damage on transport infrastructure facilities used in the interests of the AFU, UAV depots, temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed forces and foreign mercenaries in 140 areas.
Air defence systems shot down 69 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation the enemy has lost 668 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 95,994 unmanned aerial vehicles, 635 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25,960 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,611 MLRS combat vehicles, 31,240 field artillery guns and mortars, 46,359 units of support military vehicles.
