Russo-Ukraine War - 24 September 2025 - Day 1309

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that In total, there have been 122 combat encounters since the beginning of this day.

Russian zagarbniki launched four missile and 45 aviation strikes, using six missiles and dropping 87 controlled air bombs. In addition, the Russians have engaged 2435 kamikaze drones and carried out 3593 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled four Russian assault actions since the beginning of the day, one battle is ongoing. The Russian enemy also made 8 air strikes, while dropping 17 controlled air bombs, carried out 153 shelling, eight of which were from jet systems of salpovogo fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, the enemy twice attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Vovchansk.
In the Kupyansky direction, enemy units carried out six assault actions, trying to break through the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Kotlyarivka, Lozova and towards Pi рany and Kolisnikivka, currently one attack is ongoing.
In the Lyman direction since the beginning of the day, Russian zagarbniki 24 times attacked the positions of Ukrainians near the settlements of Novomikhailivka, Grekivka, Kolodyazi, Shandrigolove, Novoselivka, Derylovove and Zarichne.
In the sívers Наkomu direction, the Russian enemy seven times tried to break through in the areas of serebryanka, oríkhovo-vasilívki and towards dronívka and yampol.
Four combat clashes were recorded in the Kramators каkomu direction, Russian units tried to advance in the area of Chasovoy Yar, Novomarkovoy and towards Stupochok.
In the Toretsky direction, Russians attacked the positions of Defense Forces ten times. Efforts of the attack of the Russian occupiers concentrated in the areas of Oleksandro-Shultynogo, šcherbinivka, Ples наiivka and щіblunivka.
Since the beginning of the day in the Pokrovsky direction, Russian units 47 times tried to break through Ukrainian defense in the areas of settlements Poltavka, Nikanorivka, Rodinske, Chervony Liman, Novoekonomichne, Sukhetske, Lisivka, Zvirove, Kotline, Udaachne and Gorihove. In some locations the fighting does not stop.
Defense forces deter Russian attacks, the Russian enemy suffers significant casualties - today 164 Russian invaders have been defecated in this direction, 111 of which are irrevocable. Ukrainian defenders destroyed a car, 18 unmanned aircraft and an artillery system. Three artillery systems and three units of automotive equipment were also significantly damaged. In addition to this Ukrainian defenders hit two points of control bpla and eight personnel shelters.
In the Novopavlovsky direction, Ukrainian units stopped 12 Russian attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the settlements of Voskresrenko, Sichneve, Vorone, Ternove and Novogrigorivka, two more combat clashes are ongoing so far.
In the Gulyaipil direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled four attempts of Russian enemy units to advance in the Olgivsky area.
In the oríhívs тисяkomu direction, the Russian zagarbniki once tried to move towards novoandrívka.
In the pridniprovsky direction, the Russian opponent made three unsuccessful attempts of offense, suffered losses.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.

The Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on formations of four mechanised brigades and two assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Andreyevka, Alekseyevka, Varachino, Novaya Sech, Pavlovka, and Khrapovshchina (Sumy region).

In Kharkov direction, units of a motorised infantry brigade of the AFU and a territorial defence brigade have been hit near Bochkovo, Volchansk, and Okhrimovka (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 130 troops, five motor vehicles, two artillery guns including a French-made 155-mm TRF1 howitzer, a counter-fire radar, and an ammunition depot.

The Zapad Group of Forces' units improved the tactical situation. Russian troops seized 115 buildings in Kupyansk of Kharkov region.

Kirorovsk (Donetsk People's Republic) is almost liberated. There, Russian assault detachments have reached the north-western outskirts.

In addition, strikes were delivered at manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades, an assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a national guard brigade close to Boldyrevka, Kolodeznoye, Petrovka, Smorodkovka, Staroverovka (Kharkov region), Maslyakovka, and Yampol (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy losses amounted to up to 230 troops, a British-made Snatch armoured fighting vehicle, 14 motor vehicles, and three field artillery guns.

A counter-fire radar, seven electronic warfare stations, and nine ammunition depots were neutralised.

The Yug Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line and continued to destroy the enemy, which had been blocked in the Donetsk People's Republic south of Kleban-Byk Reservoir. More than 4.5 square kilometres of territory have been liberated in this area during the past 24 hours.

Strikes were delivered at formations of two mechanised brigades, an assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a territorial defence brigade, a national guard brigade close to Ivanopolye, Ilyinovka, Konstantinovka, Nelepovka and Seversk (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy lost up to 215 troops, a tank, three armoured fighting vehicles, six motor vehicles, and six field artillery guns. Three electronic warfare stations, five ammunition, fuel, and materiel depots were neutralised.

The Tsentr Group of Forces' units took more advantageous lines and positions. Four mechanised brigades, a tank brigade, an assault brigade, three assault brigades, two assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a marine brigade, a territorial defence brigade, and a national guard brigade were hit near Dimitrov, Krasnoarmeysk, Krasny Liman, Novopavlovka, Petrovka, and Torskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic.

The AFU losses amounted to more than 535 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, five pickup trucks, two artillery guns, and a U.S.-made AN/TPQ-37 counter-fire radar.

The Vostok Group of Forces' units continued to advance into the depths of enemy defences. Russian troops engaged a mechanised brigade of the AFU and a marine brigade hit near Malomikhaylovka (Dnepropetrovsk region), Novogrigorovka, Poltavka, and Uspenovka (Zaporozhye region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 315 troops, a tank, an infantry fighting vehicle, three armoured fighting vehicles, 10 motor vehicles, three field artillery guns, and an electronic warfare station.

The Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of a heavy mechanised brigade, a mountain assault brigade and a coastal defence brigade near Kamyshevakha, Lukyanovskoye (Zaporozhye region), Verovka, and Veseloye in Kherson region.

The enemy lost up to 70 troops, a U.S.-made HMMWV armoured vehicle, four motor vehicles, two artillery guns, two electronic warfare stations, and three ammunition depots have been neutralised.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged an power substation that provides support to enterprises of the Ukrainian defence industry, production workshops of the Motor Sich enterprise, storage and launch sites of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles as well as temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 136 areas.

The Black Sea Fleet eliminated two AFU motor boats along with a landing force in the north-western part of the Black Sea.

Air defence systems shot down seven guided aerial bombs and 202 unmanned aerial vehicles during the day.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the enemy has lost 667 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 86,435 unmanned aerial vehicles, 630 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25,233 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,592 MLRS combat vehicles, 29,888 field artillery guns and mortars, and 42,513 support military vehicles.
