Russo-Ukraine War - 19 September 2025 - Day 1304

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that the declared phase of Russia's annual Joint Strategic Exercise, Zapad-2025, was conducted alongside Belarus from 12 September 2025 until 16 September 2025, although Russian and Belarusian troops had been training together at exercise locations since at least August 2025.

Fewer land troops and armoured vehicles were likely involved than in previous Russian annual exercises because of Russia's heavy commitment to its illegal invasion of Ukraine. Zapad-2025 involved a significant maritime component, including both the Russian Baltic and Northern Fleets, with Russia reporting that the Northern Fleet frigate Admiral Golovko conducted a test launch of a Zircon hypersonic missile in the Barents Sea. The Barents Sea was a core focus for the maritime component. The exercise also involved airborne and amphibious landings.

Russian President Putin's statement that over 100,000 service personnel participated probably misrepresents the effective scale of the exercise. It is likely that no more than 10,000 Russian land forces troops took part in Russia in Moscow and Leningrad Military Districts, including Kaliningrad. In Belarus about 6,000 troops took part, about 5,000 Belarusian and 1,000 Russian, reduced from its earlier announced 13,000 troops.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 124 combat encounters. Ukrainian defenders are decisively intercepting the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.

Today Russian troops made 55 aviation strikes, dropping 98 controlled air bombs. In addition, 2032 kamikaze drones were involved in strikes and carried out 3,475 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled seven Russian assault actions since the beginning of the day, another confrontation is ongoing. In addition, the Russian enemy launched 7 air strikes, dropping 21 controlled air bombs, and carried out 133 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, three of which were from reactive systems of salpovogo fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, the Russian enemy has attacked five times the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of the settlements of Vovchansk, Figolivka and in the direction of Odradny, one fight is ongoing.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces carried out offensive actions in the areas of Stepova Novoselivka and Pi пany. Two out of three attacks were repelled by Ukrainian soldiers, one battle is ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian invaders 15 times attacked the positions of Defense Forces near the settlement of Novomikhailivka, Shandrigolove, Kolodyazi, Torske, Zarichne and towards the settlements of Stavka, Novoselivka, Medium. The four clashes continue.
Three Russian assaults were repelled by Ukrainian defenders in the Siversky direction - the Russian occupiers tried to advance in the area of Viymki and Dronivka.
In the Kramators Наkomu direction, the Russian opponent twice unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian defenders in the Stupochok area.
In the Toretsky direction, 16 times the Russians went into the offensive on the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of Toretsk, Cherbinivka, Poltavka and towards Pleshiyivka, Rusynoy Yar, Ivanopyl, Stepanivka. Four clashes are ongoing so far.
In the Pokrovsky direction since the beginning of the day, the occupiers 47 times tried to advance on the position of Ukrainian units. TheRussian enemy attacked in the areas of settlements Volodymyrivka, Nikanorivka, Rodinske, Novoekonomíčne, Ray, Fox, Pokrovsk, Kotline, Molodetske, Udaachne, Dachne, Red Liman, Novopavlivka. In three locations, the fights have not subsided yet.
According to preliminary data, today 195 Russian occupants were defecated in this direction, of which 124 - irrevocably. Ukrainian soldiers also destroyed 13 units of vehicle equipment, five unmanned aircraft; one artillery system was damaged, an BPLA control point and eight shelters for Russian personnel.
In the Novopavlovsk direction, the Russian aggressor 28 times tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of settlements Filiya, Voskresenko, Berezove, Maliivka, Novoivanivka, Piddubne, Green Grove, Tolstoy, Sichneve, Novomykolaivka and Olgivsk. Six clashes are underway.
In the direction of Gulyaipils наkomu, the Russian enemy did not carry out offensive actions, but caused an air strike by unkekorovani aviation missiles on the railroad.
In the Orihiv direction, Russian forces twice attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the area of the settlement of Kamianske and towards Stepnogirsk.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, the Russian enemy twice tried in vain to approach the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the direction of the Antonivsky Bridge. At the same time, the Russian opponent caused an air strike on Olgivka.
