Russo-Ukraine War - 20 September 2025 - Day 1305

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, 125 combat clashes have taken place since the beginning of this day. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively give an offence to the Russianenemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory.

Russian invaders launched one combined missile strike, using 37 missiles, 34 aviation strikes, while dropping 54 controlled bombs. In addition, 2536 kamikaze drones were recruited to impress and carried out 3387 shelling of positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

Five combat clashes with Russian invaders took place in the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursky directions. The Russianenemy launched four air strikes, dropped five controlled bombs, carried out 115 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, one of which was from reactive systems of assault-fire.
Today, Russian troops attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders seven times in the South Slobozhansky direction in the areas of Vovchansk, Krasnoy Pershogo and towards Bochkovoy. The three Russian attacks are ongoing so far.
In the direction of Kupians пkomu, Russian forces committed two offensive actions in the direction of Peace.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces have already repelled 13 Russian assaults in the areas of the settlements of Grekivka, Novomikhailivka, Shandrigolove, towards the settlement of Novoselivka; seven more clashes are still ongoing.
In the sívers Наkomu direction, the Russian enemy three times attacked in the direction of dronívka. All Russian attacks have been repelled.
In the Kramatorsky direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three Russian assaults near the settlement of Chasiv Yar.
In the Torets Наkomu direction today, there were 22 encounters. The Russian enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of Ivanopil, Scherbynivka, Pleshiyivka, Stepanivka, Rusynogo Yaru, Poltavka, Sofiyivka; three attacks are still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsky direction since the beginning of this day, Russian forces 33 times attacked the positions in the areas of settlements Volodymyrivka, Nikanorivka, Rodinske, Chervonyi Liman, Novoekonomíčne, Kotline, Udaachne, Molodetske, Dachne and towards settlements Cozatske and Novopavlivka. One confrontation is ongoing so far.
Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, zkoženo 178 occupants, 118 of which - irrevocably. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed one cannon, 12 unmanned aircraft, three units of automobile equipment; two unmanned aircraft control points and one Russian artillery system were also damaged.
In the Novopavlovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 17 Russian attacks in the areas of settlements Filiya, Andriyivka-Klevtsove, Sichneve, Maliivka, Komyshuvakha, Novoivanivka and towards settlements Berezove and Novovasilivsk. Two more clashes are underway.
In the direction of Gulyajpils Наkomu, Russian forces four times attacked the positions of the Defense Forces in the area of the settlement of Olgivsk. The Russian aggressor caused an aviation strike on the settlement of Bílogir.
In the oríhívs Ноkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled one Russian attack towards novoandriyivka.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, the Russian enemy launched an air strike on the settlement of Kozatske, made two unsuccessful attempts to approach the positions of Ukrainian units towards the Antonivsky Bridge.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that last night, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a massive strike by long-range air and ground-based high-precision weapons as well as with unmanned aerial vehicles against enterprises of the Ukrainian defence industry developing the Sapsan operational-tactical missile systems, production sites of multi-purpose strike and reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles, robotic systems, counter-UAVs, and loitering munitions.

The goal of the strike has been achieved. All the assigned targets have been engaged.

The Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on formations of a heavy mechanised brigade, three mechanised brigades, a jaeger brigade, a motorised infantry brigade, and an assault regiment of the AFU near Alekseyevka, Mogritsa, Sadki, Sennoye, and Khrapovshchina (Sumy region).

In Kharkov direction, units of the an infantry brigade  of the AFU and a territorial defence brigade have been hit near Volchansk and Tikhoye (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 215 troops, a tank, an armoured fighting vehicle, 12 motor vehicles, and four field artillery guns including three manufactured by NATO countries.

The Zapad Group of Forces' units improved the tactical situation. Russian units inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of a mechanised brigade, an assault brigade, an airmobile brigade, an air assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and national guard brigade near Borovskaya Andreyevka, Kupyansk, Novonikolayevka, Novoplatonovka, Senkovo (Kharkov region), Derilovo, Shandrigolovo, and Yampol (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy losses amounted to more than 240 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles including two U.S.-made HMMWV armoured vehicles, and 16 pickup trucks. Six electronic warfare stations and five ammunition depots were neutralised.

The Yug Group of Forces' units took more advantageous lines and positions. The Russian Armed Forces hit three mechanised brigades, an airmobile brigade,  an assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a marine brigade, and a territorial defence brigade near Konstantinovka, Pereyezdnoye, Platonovka, Pleshcheyevka, Seversk, and Fedorovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy lost up to 245 troops, an armoured fighting vehicle, 12 motor vehicles, and a field artillery gun. One electronic warfare station and two ammunition depots were neutralised.

The Tsentr Group's units improved the tactical situation. Russian formations inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two heavy mechanised brigades, two mechanised brigades, a jaeger brigade, an air assault brigade, two assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, two marine brigades, two territorial defence brigades, and a national guard brigade near Artyomovka, Dimitrov, Krasnoarmeysk, Krasnoy Liman, Krivorozhye, Nikolaypolye, Rodinskoye, Udachnoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Ivanovka, and Filiya in Dnepropetrovsk region.

The enemy lost up to 480 troops, a tank, five armoured fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, and a U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system.

The Vostok Group of Forces continued to advance to the depths of the enemy's defence and liberated Berezovoye (Dnepropetrovsk region).

Russian elements engaged two mechanised brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and two territorial defence brigades near Verbovoye, Gavrilovka, Kalinovskoye, and Podgavrilovka (Dnepropetrovsk region).

The AFU losses amounted to more than 270 troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, 14 motor vehicles, and an electronic warfare station.

The Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the two coastal defence brigades, a mountain assault brigade of the AFU, and a territorial defence brigade near Malye Shcherbaki, Stepnogorsk (Zaporozhye region), Dneprovskoye, and Tyaginka (Kherson region).

The AFU lost up to 40 troops and four motor vehicles. Two electronic warfare stations and two ammunition depots were neutralised.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces inflicted damage on ammunition depots, launch sites of long-range UAVs as well as temporary deployment areas of the Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 151 areas.

Air defence systems shot down 383 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the enemy has lost 667 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 85,418 unmanned aerial vehicles, 628 anti-aircraft missile systems, 25,188 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,592 MLRS combat vehicles, 29,749 field artillery guns and mortars, and 42,244 special military vehicles.
