Russo-Ukraine War - 26 August 2025 - Day 1280

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, 130 combat clashes have taken place since the beginning of this day.

Russian Zagarbniki made two rocket and 40 aviacíjnih strikes, used two rockets and dropped 57 controlled air bombs. In addition, the Russians have engaged to impress 1,708 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,947 shelling of the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled six Russian assault actions since the beginning of the day, six more are ongoing so far. The enemy also launched three air strikes using five controlled air bombs, and carried out 170 shells, one of which was from the reactive systems of salvage fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, the Russian enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders four times and received a section near the Deep, Vovchansky, Red First and towards Doroshivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian units carried out five unsuccessful assault actions, trying to break through the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the direction of settlements of Kupiansk and Nova Kruglyakivka.
In the Lyman direction since the beginning of the day, Russian zagarbniks 27 times attacked the positions of Ukrainians near the settlements Novomikhailivka, Karpivka, Kolodyazi, Mirne, Torske and towards the settlements of Shandrigolove, Stavka, Dronivka and Serebryanka. At the moment, Ukrainian defenders repel nine Russian attacks.
In the Sívers .komu direction, Russian forces six times tried to break through in the area of Grigorivka and in the direction of Serebryanka, Viymki, Fedorivka.
Four combat clashes were recorded in the Kramators .komu direction, the Russian enemy's units tried to move towards Stupochok.
In the Toretsky direction, Russians attacked the positions of Defense Forces eight times. The efforts of the attack were concentrated in the areas of Toretsk, Oleksandro-Kalinovy and in the direction of settlements of Berestok, Stepanivka, Poltavka. One fight is going on.
Since the beginning of the day in the Pokrovsky direction, Russian units have tried 30 times to break through Ukrainian defense in the areas of populated areas of Nikanorivka, Novoekonomíchne, Mirolubivka, Ray, Lisivka, Kotline, Udaachne, Novoukrainka and in the direction of Volodymyrivka, Rubizhny, Bilitsky, Rodinsky, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka.
Defense Forces hold back Russian attacks, the Russian enemy suffers significant losses - today in this direction 107 occupants are defecated, of which 67 - irrevocable. Ukrainian defenders have destroyed three vehicles, an artillery system, 16 unmanned aircraft, a REB device, three BPLA control points and three personnel shelters. Also significantly damaged the artillery system, special equipment unit, three control points of BPLA and six Russian covers.
In the Novopavlovsky direction, Ukrainian units stopped 10 Russian attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the settlement of Zeleny Gai, Shevchenko, Voskresenko, Komyshuvakha, Novogeorgiyivka and in the direction of Philia, Iskra and Oleksandrograd, six more fighting clashes are ongoing so far.
In the directions of Gulyaipilsky and Orihivsky, there are no combat clashes.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, Russian forces made two unsuccessful attempts of offense, suffered losses and retreated.
