Russo-Ukraine War - 25 August 2025 - Day 1279

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 136 combat clashes.

Zagarbniki made 43 aviacíjnih strikes, dropping 57 controlled air bombs. In addition, the Russians engaged 1,459 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,799 shelling of positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled five Russian assault actions since the beginning of the day. The enemy also launched 6 air strikes using 11 controlled airstrikes and carried out 179 shells, five of which were from reactive systems.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, the Russian enemy has attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders ten times near Glybokoye, Vovchansk, Barnoy, and towards Kutkivka and Kolodyazny, four combat clashes are ongoing.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian units carried out six assault actions, trying to break through the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Sinkivka, Golubivka, Kolisnikivka and Zagrizovoye, currently two attacks are ongoing.
In the Lyman direction since the beginning of the day, Russian invaders 17 times attacked the positions of Ukrainians near the settlements of Novomikhailivka, Grekivka, Kolodyazi, Novoselivka, Green Valley and towards Yampol and Serebryanka. At the moment, Ukrainian defenders repel nine Russian attacks.
In the sívers рkomu direction, Russian forces once tried to break through in the area of fedorivka.
13 combat clashes were recorded in the Kramators вихkomu direction, Russian units tried to advance in the areas of Chasovoy Yar, White Mountain and towards Stupochok and Predtečinyo, the battle is currently ongoing.
In the Toretsky direction, Russians six times attacked the positions of Defense Forces. Efforts of the attack of the occupiers concentrated in the areas of Dilíivka, Toretsk, Rusynogo Yar and Oleksandro-Kalinovogo.
Since the beginning of the day in the Pokrovsky direction, Russian units 43 times tried to break through Ukrainian defense in the areas of settlements Nikanorivka, Mayak, Mirolubivka, Novoekonomíčne, Rodinske, Hrodivka, Mirolubívka, Suhiy Yar, Lisivka, Chunyshine, Zvirove, Kotline, Udaachne, Novomykolaivka, Gorihove and Dachne. In some locations the fighting does not stop.
Defense forces deter Russian attacks, the Russian enemy suffers significant losses - today 142 Russian invaders have been defecated in this direction, 86 of which are irrevocable. Ukrainian defenders destroyed 18 vehicles units, seven unmanned aircraft, two BP control points and three personnel shelters. The artillery system and the Russian enemy's REB tool are also significantly damaged.
In the Novopavlovsky direction, Ukrainian units stopped eight Russian attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the settlements of Yalta, Zeleny Gai, Voskresenko, Shevchenko and Komyshuvakh, with four more fighting clashes ongoing so far.
In the direction of Gulyajpils Наkomu, the fight is sharpened in the area of Malinivka.
In the Orihivsky direction, the Russian zagarbniki twice tried to advance in the area of Plavniv and towards Pavlivka.
In the pridniprovsk direction, Russian forces made three unsuccessful attacks, suffered losses and retreated.
