Russo-Ukraine War - 24 August 2025 - Day 1278

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively repel the Russian enemy's attempts to advance deep into the territory, giving him an effective fire effect and exhausting his strength across the frontline. In total, there have been 128 combat clashes since the beginning of this day.

Russian zagarbniki launched one missile and 52 aviation strikes, used one missile and dropped 76 controlled aviation bombs. In addition, the Russians engaged 1789 kamikaze drones and carried out 2978 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions, since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian troops repelled five Russian attacks. Also, the enemy carried out 13 air strikes, using 20 controlled air bombs, and carried out 136 shells.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, the Russian enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian units five times near the settlement of Vovchansk and towards Dvorichansk - all Russian attacks were repelled.
In the Kupyansky direction, the Russian enemy made eight attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Kupyansk, Western, Golubivka and Green Grove. Two combat clashes are being sharpened so far.
In the Lyman direction since the beginning of the day, Russian invaders attacked 15 times near the settlements of Grekivka, Torske, Ivanivka, Ridkodub, Karpivka and towards the settlements of Seredne, Dronivka, Shandrigolove, Serebryanka. Six combat clashes are still not suffocating.
In the Sivers Сіkomu direction, the Defense Forces repelled ten Russian assaults in the areas of Serebryanka, Fedorivka, Viymki, Pereíznogo and in the direction of Sivers .k. One combat confrontation remains unfinished.
Four Russian attacks were repelled in the Kramators маkomu direction - in the areas of May and Chasovoye Yar.
In the Toretsky direction Russians four times attacked the positions of Defense Forces. The main efforts of the Russian enemy are focused in the areas of Sherbinivka and Rusynoy Yar.
Since the beginning of the day in the Pokrovsk direction, 38 times the Russians tried to break through Ukrainian defense in the areas of settlements Zatishok, Nikanorivka, New Shahove, Novoekonomíčne, Udaachne, Shahove, Mirolubivka, Mykolaivka, Sukhetske, Lisivka, Zvirove and towards settlements Rodinske, Novoukrainka, Red Liman, Pokrovsk. There are currently two combat clashes
Defense forces deter Russian attacks, the Russian enemy suffers significant losses - today 143 occupants were defecated in this direction, 99 of which were irrevocably. In addition, two fuel and oil warehouses, one drone control point and one enemy car were destroyed.
In the Novopavlovsky direction, Ukrainian units stopped 21 Russian assaults near the settlements Zelene Pole, Vilne Pole, Maliivka, Voskresenko, Shevchenko, Temirivka - towards the settlements Filiya, Novomykolaivka, Novogeorgiyivka and Komyshuvakha. Six more combat clashes are underway.
Active offensive actions of the Russian opponent were not recorded in Gulyaipilsky, Orihivskky and Pridniprovskiy directions. Aviation strikes were hit by districts of settlements of Bilogir, Naddnipryanske, Lviv.
In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the situation.
