Russo-Ukraine War - 16 August 2025 - Day 1270

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 126 combat clashes. Ukrainian defenders are decisively intercepting the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.

Today Russian troops launched 48 aviation strikes, dropping 83 controlled aviation bombs. In addition, 1699 kamikaze drones were deployed and carried out 4258 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the North Slobozhansky and Kursky directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled two assault actions of the Russian occupiers since the beginning of the day. In addition, the Russian enemy launched 10 air strikes, dropping 23 controlled air bombs, and carried out 204 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, 11 of which were from reactive systems of arson-fire.
In the South Slobozhans Камkomu direction, Russian forces twice stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the Kamyanka area.
In the Kupyansky direction, the Russian aggressor carried out offensive actions in the areas of the settlements of Kindrashivka, Zapadne, Golubivka and Stepova Novoselivka. Ukrainian defenders have stopped ten Russian attacks, three more clashes continue.
In the Lyman direction, Russian invaders 16 times attacked the positions of Defense Forces near the settlements of Karpivka, Green Valley, Kolodyazi and towards Serebryanka and Grigorivka, three clashes are still ongoing.
One assault was hit by Ukrainian defenders in the Siversky direction - the Russian occupiers tried to advance in the Grigorivka area.
In the Toretsky direction, four times the Russians went into offensive on the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of Toretsk, Diliyivka and towards Pleschiyivka. Defense forces stopped all Russian attacks.
In the Pokrovsky direction since the beginning of the day, the Russian occupiers tried 38 times to advance on the position of Ukrainian units. Russian forces attacked in the areas of settlements Poltavka, Volodymyrivka, Nove Shahove, Novoekonomíčne, Rodins неke, Romin, Fox, Chunyshine, Zvirove, Kotline, Udaachne, Gorihove, Muravka and Philia. In some locations, the fights have not subsided yet.
According to preliminary data, today in this direction there were 139 Russian invaders, 91 of them - irrevocably. Also Ukrainian soldiers artillery system, seven cars and 18 BPLA; damaged artillery system, three cars, ten shelters for personnel and the control point of the Russian occupiers' BPLA.
In the Novopavlovsk direction, Russian forces 22 times tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of settlements Novohatske, Vilne Pole, Mirne, Piddubne, Shevchenko, Voskresenka, Temirivka, Maliivka and Olgivskke.
In the oríhívs вkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled the attack of the Russian zagarbnikív towards stepnogírsk.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, Russian forces made two futile attempts to approach Ukrainian positions.
