Russo-Ukraine War - 21 August 2025 - Day 1275

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that 116 combat clashes have taken place since the beginning of the day.

The Russian opponent launched two missile strikes with 43 rockets and 49 aviation strikes, dropping 70 controlled aviation bombs. Also used 1850 kamikaze drones for strikes and carried out 3,876 shelling of settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.

Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian attacks in the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursky directions. The enemy launched five air strikes, dropped nine controlled air bombs and fired 161 artillery shells, including four from reactive systems of open fire.
In the South Slobozhansky direction, Ukrainian units prevented five Russian attacks near the settlements of Vovchansk, Hatne, Barna and Zapadne.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled five Russian attacks in the areas of Golubivka and Kupiansk.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers stopped 14 assault actions of the Russian invaders near the settlements of Karpivka, Green Valley, Kolodyazi, Dibrov and towards Yampol. Three more fighting clashes are ongoing so far.
In the Sivers Наkomu direction, Russian forces carried out five offensive actions in the areas of Serebryanka, Viymki, Grigorivka, Sivers Наka and Fedorivka.
In the kramators сниkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled four attempts of the Russian zagarbnikív to advance in the areas of konstantinivka and prtečiny.
In the Toretsky direction, Russian forces today four times stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Oleksandro-Kalinovy, Pleschiyivka, Sofiyivka, Poltavka and Toretsk. Defense forces are steadily suppressing the pressure and repelling all Russian attacks.
Throughout the day in the Pokrovsky direction, the Russian enemy committed 29 offensive actions. The activity of Russian occupiers was fixed near the settlements of Nikanorivka, Novoekonomíčne, Mykolaivka, Rodinske, Peaceful, Red Strait, Ray, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Novopavlivka, Muravka, Novoukrainka, Comfort, Kotline, Udačne, Lisivka, Dachne. Three fighting clashes are still ongoing.
Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, 107 Russian invaders, of which 71 - irrevocably. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed one unmanned aircraft control point, one fuel warehouse, 47 unmanned aircraft, six automobile units and two special equipment units, as well as struck two Russian cannons.
In the Novopavlovsky direction, Ukrainian units repelled 25 attacks in the areas of settlements Voskresenko, Zaporizhye, Temirivka, Green Field, Tolstoy, Lisne, Olgivskie and in the direction of settlements of Komyshuvakha, Philia. The two fighting clashes are still ongoing.
The Russian enemy did not carry out offensive actions in Gulyaipilsky and Orihivskky directions. Russian aviation struck the settlements of Novoukrainka and Orihiv.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, the Russian occupiers twice attacked the positions of the Defense Forces in the direction of the Antonivsky Bridge. The Russian opponent of success did not succeed. The settlement point of pridniprovsk suffered aviation strikes controlled bombs.
