A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The UK Ministry of Defence reported that, fighting continues in southern, eastern and northern Ukraine. On 08 September 2022, the military of Belarus, Ukraine's northern neighbour, started routine training exercises to regain territory taken by 'enemy forces' and secure their borders. The exercises are due to last until 14 September 2022.
The drills will be conducted close to Brest near the Polish border, around the Belarusian capital Minsk and in the north-eastern region of Vitebsk. Although Russia's use of Belarusian territory was instrumental in Russia's failed advance on Kyiv early in the invasion, Belarusian forces have limited offensive capabilities and there is a remote chance that they have deployed forces into Ukraine.
It is highly unlikely that these exercises are an indication of preparations for direct Belarusian involvement in the Ukraine war.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia continues to focus its efforts on establishing full control over the territory of the Donetsk oblast, maintaining the temporarily captured districts of the Kherson oblast, part of the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, and Mykolaiv oblasts. UAV conducts aerial reconnaissance with high intensity. It is trying to improve the tactical position and logistical support of its troops.
During the current day, Russian forces launched more than 12 missile and more than 12 air strikes on objects on the territory of Ukraine. To do this, it spent up to forty flyes. In particular, infrastructure was affected in the areas of Velyki Prohody, Starovirivka, Yurivka, Temyrivka, Ternovi Pody, Sukhy Stavok, Barvinok and Bilohirka settlements. There remains a further threat of air and missile strikes throughout the territory of Ukraine, in particular from the territory and airspace of the Republic of Belarus. In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the situation remains without significant changes. Command and staff exercises are ongoing in the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.
In other directions, Russian forces are shelling military and civilian infrastructure from tanks, combat vehicles, barrel and rocket artillery, namely:

In the South Buh direction, Russian forces fired from barrel and rocket artillery along the contact line. In addition, it actively conducted aerial reconnaissance by UAVs, made more than 60 flies.
Due to significant losses and reluctance to fight, the morale and psychological condition of the Russian units is significantly deteriorating and the number of deserters is increasing. In the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region, in the area of the settlement of Babenkivka Druha, Russian forces were forced to use helicopters and weapons to search for fugitives and return them to combat positions. In addition, through Kalanchak, in the direction of the temporarily occupied Crimea, an intensive movement of unarmed russian soldiers by buses was noted.
Units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hold their positions and prevent Russian forces from advancing deep into the territory of Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Kostyantynivka, Prudyanka, Ruski Tyshky, Virnopillya, Mykolaivka Druha, Zaytseve, Avdiyivka, Kamianka, Pobieda and Bezimenne settlements.
During the day, in order to support the actions of the land groupings, the Air Force of the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out more than 10 strikes, during which combat equipment, anti-aircraft defense equipment and a significant number of personnel were destroyed in strongholds in the Donetsk and South Buh directions.
Ukrainian Air defense units destroyed at least 2 enemy UAVs in different directions.
Missile troops and artillery of land groupings continue to carry out the tasks of fire damage to manpower and combat equipment, counter-battery combat, disruption of the enemy's command and control system and logistical support. 3 Russian control points, a pontoon crossing, 28 manpower and military equipment concentration facilities were damaged by fire. Ammunition depots and firing positions of the enemy's artillery fell into the affected area. The results are being verified.

Employees of the organization located at the station report that the energy infrastructure that feeds Energodar has been destroyed by shelling. At the same time, operators are not sure that the network can be restored.
Earlier, Ukrainian nationalists fired 27 shells at Energodar. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the enemy was suppressed by return fire.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the latest results achieved during the special operation. In the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, Russian troops inflicted significant damage on the 46th Airmobile Brigade, the 35th Marine Brigade and the 61st Infantry Jaeger Brigade of the enemy. Also, strikes were made on the places of temporary deployment of units of the 127th territorial defense brigade and the 14th mechanized brigade in the Kharkov region. As a result, over 100 militants were killed, and about 120 more were injured.
Eight more command posts in Kharkiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye regions and on the territory of the DPR, 52 artillery units and 153 concentrations of enemy forces were hit by aircraft, missile troops and barreled guns. In addition, the militants lost three weapons depots, a HIMARS multiple launch rocket system and an M-777 howitzer.
The situation in the LDNR
The situation in the Donbass was characterized by massive shelling of DPR cities by neo-Nazis. The most difficult situation was observed in the capital of the republic, where at least five citizens were killed in the daytime alone, and there are also victims. Attacks were made on the Voroshilovsky and Petrovsky districts of Donetsk, where there were no military installations.
In Mariupol , the operations of the International Mine Action Center of the RF Armed Forces continue, the sappers of which have neutralized more than 300 explosive objects in two agricultural fields in the vicinity of the city . Most of the discovered mines are anti-tank TM-62M. All ammunition found was destroyed by overhead charges.
