A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the day, there have been 112 combat clashes, the Russian enemy launched three missile strikes (16 missiles), 65 air strikes, dropping 88 KABs, used 1096 kamikaze drones, carried out more than four thousand three hundred shells on settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.
In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian enemy tried to break through the defensive borders of Ukrainian defenders three times, attacking towards Vovchansk and Western, received a cut off.
Five Russian attacks were repelled by Ukrainian defenders in the Kupyansky direction in the areas of Zagrizovoye and Petropavlivka, two more attacks are ongoing.
Three attacks of Russian zagarbnikív stopped Ukrainian warriors near yampolivka and kolodâzív in the Lyman direction, two more fights are being sharpened.
In the Siversky direction, Russian forces made two attempts to attack in the area of Bílogorivka, the fighting ended without success for the occupiers.
In the Kramators Наkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attempts of the Russian zagarbnikív to advance near the Time Yar and Vasyukivka, one of them is still ongoing.
In the Toretsky direction, Russian forces today eight times stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the Toretsk area. Defense forces are steadily holding down the pressure, four clashes are still ongoing.
Intensely attacks the Russian opponent of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. During the day, the enemy carried out 31 offensive actions. The greatest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the areas of populated areas of Pramyn, Pokrovsk, Pishnetia, Lisivka, Vodyane Druge, Sergiyivka, Nadiivka, Bogdanivka, Sribne, Andriyivka, Ulakly. Ukrainian defenders bravely hold the border, so far there are six combat.
According to preliminary calculations, today, in this direction, Ukrainian warriors eliminated 156 and wounded 139 Russian invaders. Eight cars, three motorcycles, a generator, four BPLA antennas, a cannon, a quadbike, one MTLB, a REB vehicle and a Starlink terminal were destroyed, two cars and one Russian cannon.
In the Novopavliv direction Ukrainian units repelled 11 attacks in the direction of Konstantinopol, Rozdolny, Novoočheretuvatogo and Privilny. Yet another battle is underway.
In the gulyajpíl ляs сьkomu direction, Russian forces attacked three times in the areas of novopol and novosilka, one fight is ongoing so far.
In the orihiv direction Russian zagarbniki three times advanced in the position of Ukrainian defenders in the direction of novoandriivka and stepovoye. One of the standoff continues.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, Russian forces did not carry out active offensive actions.
In Kur заiní Ukrainian defenders repel three attacks of Russian zagarbnikív, total for now already recorded 29 boêzítknen ки. The enemy launched 17 air strikes, dropping 22 controlled bombs at settlements and positions of the Defense Forces, in addition, 413 artillery shells, including four from reactive arsenal systems.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the previous night, the Russian Armed Forces launched a long-range high precision group strike by long-range air-, sea-, and ground-based weapons as well as attack unmanned aerial vehicles at the gas and power infrastructure that supported the Ukranian defence industry enterprises. The goal of the strike was achieved. All the targets were engaged.
In Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of one motorised infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and one territorial defence brigade close to Volchansk (Kharkov region).
The AFU losses were up to 45 troops, one tank, one armoured fighting vehicle, six motor vehicles, and three field artillery guns.
Units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line. Russian troops inflicted fire damage on formations of five mechanised brigades of the AFU, one territorial defence brigade, and one National Guard brigade near Kutkovka, Kupyansk, Kondrashovka, Zagoruykovka, Novaya Kruglyakovka (Kharkov region), Kolodezi, and Yampol (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses were more than 180 troops, five pickup trucks, and seven field artillery guns, including four NATO-made ones. Two ammunition depots and one electronic warfare station were destroyed.
Units of the Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Russian troops inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Seversk, Vasyukovka, Novomarkovo, Chasov Yar, Chervonoye, Karpovka, Konstantinovka, and Ulakly (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses were up to 175 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, two pickup trucks, and seven field artillery guns, including three Western-made ones.
The Tsentr Group of Forces' units improved the situation along the front line. Russian troops hit six mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one jaeger brigade, three assault brigades, one assault regiment, and one National Guard brigade close to Shcherbinovka, Shevchenko, Gnatovka, Krasnoarmeysk, Zverevo, Udachnoye, Kotlino, Uspenovka, Nadezhdinka, and Andreyevka (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses were up to 280 troops, five tanks, four armoured fighting vehicles, including two U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, three motor vehicles, eight field artillery guns, including one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer.
Units of the Vostok Group of Forces continued advancing into the depth of enemy defences. Russian troops inflicted fire damage on units of two mechanised brigades of the AFU and three territorial defence brigades close to Novopetrovskoye (Dnepropetrovsk region), Zelyonoye Pole, Rovnopol, Dneproenergiya, and Razliv (Donetsk People's Republic)
The AFU losses were more than 130 troops, one German-made Leopard tank, one armoured fighting vehicle, and one motor vehicle. The Russian Armed Forces eliminated four field artillery pieces, including one 155-mm French-made Caesar self-propelled artillery system.
Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces engaged manpower and hardware of two coastal defence brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine close to Primorskoye, Novoandreyevka, Pyatikhatki (Zaporozhye region) and Antonovka (Kherson region).
The AFU losses were up to 40 troops, four motor vehicles, and one electronic warfare station.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces engaged the infrastructure of military airfields, storage and training sites for the launch of unmanned aerial vehicles as well as clusters of manpower and hardware of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 156 areas.
Air defence systems shot down 10 U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 108 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 652 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 42,095 unmanned aerial vehicles, 590 anti-aircraft missile systems, 20,984 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,511 MLRS combat vehicles, 21,100 field artillery guns and mortars, and 31,097 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise AFU formations on the territory of Kursk region.
During offensive actions, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted strikes on one tank brigade, one heavy mechanised brigade, six mechanised brigades, one mountain assault brigade, four air assault brigades, one marine brigade, three territorial defence brigades, and three assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Bondarevka, Gogolevka, Goncharovka, Guyevo, Kazachya Loknya, Lebedevka, Loknya, Malaya Loknya, Makhnovka, Nikolsky, and Suja. Four enemy counter-attacks were repelled.
Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, and artillery strikes engaged AFU manpower and hardware close to Agronom, Viktorovka, Zamostye, Kolmakov, Kositsa, Kubatkin, Kurilovka, Martynovka, Melovoy, Novaya Sorochina, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, and Basovka, Belovody, Zhuravka, Mirlogi, Miropolye, and Yunakovka in Sumy region.
During the day, the AFU losses were more than 160 troops, two tanks, two U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, one armoured personnel carrier, 10 armoured fighting vehicles, eight motor vehicles, five artillery guns, four mortars, and three UAV command posts.
Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk direction, the AFU losses amounted to more than 62,200 troops, 373 tanks, 279 infantry fighting vehicles, 229 armoured personnel carriers, 1,947 armoured fighting vehicles, 2,096 motor vehicles, 461 artillery guns, 49 MLRS launchers, including 13 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 22 anti-aircraft missile launchers, nine transport-loading vehicles, 111 EW stations, 15 counter-battery warfare radars, seven air defence radars, 49 units of engineering and other materiel, including 19 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, five bridge launchers, one engineering reconnaissance vehicle as well as 14 armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.
The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
