A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces are directing efforts to disrupt the execution of Russian invaders' offensive plans and exhaust their combat potential.

Since the beginning of the day, there have been 106 combat clashes, the Russian enemy launched a missile strike (two rockets), 64 air strikes, dropped 91 KABs, deployed 1122 kamikaze drones, launched more than four thousand three hundred shells on settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces tried five times to break through the defensive borders of Ukrainian defenders towards Vovchansk and Western, got a cut off.
Three attacks of the Russian enemy were repelled by Ukrainian defenders in the Kupyans захиkomu direction in the areas of Petropavlivka and Zagrizovy.
Twelve attacks of the Russian zagarbnikív stopped Ukrainian warriors near Balka Zhuravka, Yampolivka, Kolodyaziv, Makiyivka and in the direction of Grigorivka in the Lyman direction.
In the Sívers хkomu direction, Russian forces tried to attack in the area of Verkhnyokamians наkogo, the fight is ongoing.
In the kramators комуkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attempts of the Russian zagarbnikív to advance near the time line and vasyukívka.
Intensely attacks the Russian opponent of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. During the day, Russian forces made 26 offensive actions. The largest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the areas of the settlements Zelene Pole, Vodyane Druge, Elizabethtivka, Novotoretske, Romin, Kotline, Nadiivka, Andriyivka and Ulakly. Ukrainian defenders courageously hold the border, so far there are three confrontations.
According to preliminary estimates, today, in this direction, Ukrainian soldiers killed 101 and wounded 90 Russian invaders. A tank, nine vehicles, six motorcycles, 13 BPLAs, a REB vehicle and a satellite vehicle were destroyed, also a tank, a combat armored vehicle, three vehicles and three artillery systems were significantly damaged.
In the Toretsky direction, Russian forces today 13 times stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Ozaryanivka, Toretsk and Leonidivka. Defense forces are steadily holding down the pressure, four clashes are still ongoing.
In the Novopavliv direction Ukrainian units repelled 13 attacks in the direction of Konstantinopol, Rozdolny, New Komar and Privilny. Two clashes are being sharpened so far.
In the Orihiv direction Russian zagarbniki nine times advanced in the position of Ukrainian defenders in the direction of Novoandriivka and in the areas of Maliy Scherbakov and Stepovoye. The three clashes continue.
Russian forces did not carry out any active offensive actions in the Pridniprovsk and Gulyaipils вkomu directions.
In Kur ціiní Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks of zagarbnikív.
In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the environment.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of one motorised infantry brigade and one territorial defence brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) near Volchansk (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 60 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, and nine motor vehicles. One ammunition depot was destroyed.

The Zapad Group of Forces has improved the tactical situation. Strikes were delivered at formations of two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and two territorial defence brigades close to Borovoye, Zagoruykovka, and Dvurechnoye (Kharkov region), as well as at Serebryansky forestry.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 200 troops, two infantry fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, and seven field artillery guns, with two of them manufactured by NATO countries. Four Anklav and Klever electronic warfare stations, as well as one ammunition depot, were neutralised.

The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. The Group hit personnel and manpower of two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade, one airmobile brigade, and one mountain assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Krestishche, Dronovka, Chasov Yar, Seversk, Nikiforovka, Nikolaipolye, and Ulakly (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy losses amounted to up to 185 troops, one tank, three motor vehicles, two field artillery guns, and one electronic warfare station.

The Tsentr Group of Forces' units improved the situation along the front line. They inflicted damage on units of eight mechanised brigades, two jaeger brigades, one airmobile brigade, one assault brigade, one assault regiment of the AFU, one special forces brigade, and one National Guard brigade were defeated near Dyleyevka, Katerinovka, Alekseyevka, Zverevo, Kotlino, Udachnoye, Belaya Gora, Krasnoarmeysk, Ivanopolye, Nadezhdinka, and Novoaleksandrovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy lost up to 290 troops, three tanks, six armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, 13 motor vehicles, and four field artillery guns, including one Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces continued advancing into the depth of enemy defences. They hit two mechanised brigades, one air assault brigade of the AFU, one marine brigade, and three territorial defence brigades close to Konstantinopol, Zelenoye Pole, Razdolnoye, Burlatskoye, one Razliv (Donetsk People's Republic), Zaliznichnoye, and Gulyaipole (Zaporozhye region).

The enemy losses amounted to up to 160 troops, one tank, one armoured fighting vehicle, three motor vehicles, four field artillery guns, and one electronic warfare station.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise AFU formations on the territory of Kursk region.

During the offensive actions, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted strikes on one tank brigade, one heavy mechanised brigade, six mechanised brigades, one mountain assault brigade, four air assault brigades, one marine brigade, three territorial defence brigades, and three assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Gogolevka, Goncharovka, Guyevo, Zaoleshhenka, Kazachya Loknya, Kolmakov, Lebedevka, Loknya, Malaya Loknya, Makhnovka, Nikolsky, Rubanshchina, and Sudzha. Two counter-attacks launched by enemy units were repelled.

Operational-tactical, army aviation and artillery fire hit enemy manpower and hardware close to Agronom, Bondarevka, Dmitryukov, Zamostye, Kurilovka, Martynovka, Melovoy, Nikolayevka, Oleshnya, Staraya Sorochina, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, as well as Basovka, Belovody, Boromlya, Veselovka, Zhuravka, and Obody in Sumy region.

Over the past day, the AFU losses amounted to more than 510 troops, one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, four armoured personnel carriers, 22 armoured fighting vehicles, 57 motor vehicles, two self-propelled artillery systems, including one Panzerhaubitze 2000 manufactured by Germany, four artillery guns, four mortars, a launcher and a transport-loading vehicle of the Olkha MLRS, two electronic warfare stations, one counterobstacle vehicle, as well as three UAV command posts, one ammunition depot, and one materiel depot. One AFU serviceman surrendered.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk direction, the AFU losses amounted to more than 62,040 troops, 371 tanks, 277 infantry fighting vehicles, 228 armoured personnel carriers, 1,937 armoured fighting vehicles, 2,088 motor vehicles, 456 artillery guns, 49 MLRS launchers, including 13 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 22 anti-aircraft missile launchers, nine transport-loading vehicles, 111 EW stations, 15 counter-battery warfare radars, seven air defence radars, 49 units of engineering and other materiel, including 19 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, five bridge launchers, one engineering reconnaissance vehicle as well as 14 armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.
