A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 174 combat encounters.

Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively interrupt the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him an effective fire effect.

Russian invaders launched one missile and 26 air strikes today, launched one rocket and 51 guided bombs, deployed 966 kamikaze drones and launched almost 4,000 shells at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian opponent seven times without success stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of Vovchansk and Starica.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces carried out offensive actions near Kutkivka, Kindrashivka, Dvorichnaya, Petropavlivka, Nova Kruglyakivka and Boguslavka, two confrontations are ongoing so far. Ukrainian defenders stopped 12 enemy attacks.
In the Lyman direction Russian zagarbniki nine times attacked the positions of Defense Forces near Novoegorivka, Boguslavka, Novolubivka, Makiyivka and in the Serebryans Наkomu forest. One battle is going on so far.
In the sívers сіkomu direction, Russian forces 17 times attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of bílogorivka, novosilka and verkhnyokam сьkogo. So far, two clashes are ongoing.
In the direction of Kramators ,komu, Russian forces 11 times attacked Ukrainian positions near the Antichynogo, the White Mountain and the Time Yar.
In the Toretsky direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 17 Russian attacks in the areas of settlements of Crimea, Diliyivka, Dachne, Toretsk and Scherbinivka. Yet another battle is underway. In addition, Russian forces launched an aviation strike with 4 controlled bombs on the settlement of Katerinivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction, from the beginning of this day, the Russian enemy attacked 75 times in the areas of populated areas Vodyane Second, Peace, Elizabeth, Ray, Dry Yar, Fox, Green, Renaissance, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Sergiyivka, Udaachne, Nadiivka, Uspenivka, Novovasilivka, Novooleksandrivka, Oleksiyivka, Dachne, Bogdanivka, Kurakhove and Ulakly. At the same time, Russian forces caused aviation strikes controlled bombs on the settlements of Andriyivka and Luck.
Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, Ukrainian soldiers zneszkodili 275 invaders, of them 146 - irrevocably. Four motorcycles, four units of automobile equipment, one mortar, two satellite communication tools, two BPLA antennas were also destroyed, the motorcycle and mortar were also damaged.
In the Novopavlívs напряkomu direction, Russian forces made seven attempts to break through Ukrainian defense near the settlements of Konstantinopil and Spill. In addition, the enemy launched aerial strikes on the settlements of Komar and New Komar, dropping seven controlled bombs.
In the direction of Gulyaipilsky, the Russian zagarbniki attacked the settlement of Novosilka five times.
In the Orihiv direction, the Russian occupiers dropped six controlled aviation bombs near the settlement of Kalinovsk.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, Russian occupation troops conducted one assault of the positions of Ukrainian defenders, unsuccessful, retreated.
In the Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders today repelled ten Russian attacks, currently one fight is ongoing. At the same time, Russian forces launched 15 air strikes, dropped 27 controlled bombs in total and carried out 255 artillery shelling, including three from jet systems of salp-fire.
On the rest of the directions, the operational environment has not changed.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of one motorised infantry brigade of the AFU and one territorial defence brigade near Liptsy and Volchansk (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 25 troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, and two motor vehicles. Two field artillery guns and one ammunition depot were neutralised.

As a result of decisive actions of the Zapad Group of Forces, Dvurechnaya (Kharkov region) was liberated.

Strikes were delivered at manpower and hardware of one tank brigade, two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the AFU and two territorial defence brigades near Topoli, Zapadnoye, Peschanoye, Lozovaya, Kopanki, Zeleny Gai, Krasnoye Pervoye (Kharkov region), Makeyevka (Lugansk People's Republic), Yampol, Grigorovka, and Ivanovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 330 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, to include two U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, and six motor vehicles. Four field artillery guns, to include three of Western-made, two electronic warfare stations, and two ammunition depots were eliminated.

Units of the Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Formations of two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the AFU, and two territorial defence brigades were hit near Verkhnekamenskoye, Yantarnoye, Zelenovka, Orekhovo-Vasilevka, Chasov Yar, and Dachnoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 220 troops, two American HMMWV armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, and one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun. One ammunition depot was wiped out.

Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences. Manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade of the AFU, two national guard brigades, and one territorial defence brigade were hit close to Shcherbinovka, Dzerzhinsk, Lysovka, Krymskoye, Zverevo, Novoyelizavetovka, Vozdvizhenka, Yasenovoye, Novovasilyevka, and Kotlino (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 600 troops, two tanks, two armoured fighting vehicles, to include one U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, seven motor vehicles, and one field artillery gun.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences. Formations of one mechanised brigade of the AFU, one national guard brigade, and one territorial defence brigade were hit near Bogatyr, Vremevka, and Rovnopol (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to more than 115 troops, one tank, two motor vehicles, and four field artillery guns, to include one manufactured by Western countries.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces have engaged manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade, one coastal defence brigade of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade close to Stepnogorsk, Novopokrovka, Rabotino (Zaporozhye region), Antonovka (Kherson region), and Kherson.

The AFU losses were more than 40 troops and three motor vehicles.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, strike UAVs, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged the infrastructure of military airfields, drones and uncrewed surface vehicles manufacturing workshops and depots as well as clusters of enemy manpower and hardware in 152 areas.

Air defence systems have shot down 15 U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 64 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 652 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 41,635 unmanned aerial vehicles, 590 anti-aircraft missile systems, 20,870 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,510 MLRS combat vehicles, 21,022 field artillery guns and mortars, and 30,853 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise AFU formations on the territory of Kursk region.

During the offensive, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on formations of one tank brigade, one heavy mechanised brigade, four mechanised brigades, two air assault brigades, one marine brigade, and three territorial defence brigades of the AFU close to Viktorovka, Gogolevka, Goncharovka, Guyevo, Zaoleshenka, Pervy Knyazhy, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Malaya Loknya, Makhnovka, Nikolayevka, Nikolsky, Novaya Sorochina, Sverdlikovo, Sudzha, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye. Five enemy counter-attacks were repelled.

Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery strikes engaged AFU manpower and hardware close to Bogdanovka, Zamostye, Kazachya Loknya, Pervy Knyazhy, Kolmakov, Kositsa, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Loknya, Martynovka, Melovoy, Mirny, Nikolayevka, Yuzhny as well as Basovka, Belovody, Veselovka, Vodolagi, Glukhov, and Zhuravka in Sumy region.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 280 troops, one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, six armoured fighting vehicles, and 20 motor vehicles.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 55,470 troops, 322 tanks, 239 infantry fighting vehicles, 184 armoured personnel carriers, 1,642 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,664 motor vehicles, 392 artillery guns, 44 MLRS launchers, including 13 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 16 anti-aircraft missile launchers, eight transport-loading vehicles, 103 EW stations, 14 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 32 units of engineering and other materiel, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, nine armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
