A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that so far, 149 combat clashes have taken place. The hottest today is the situation in Pokrovsk and Kursk directions.

For today, Russian forces made 31 aviation strikes, dropping 48 kab, used to impress 709 kamikadze drones. Made about 3,500 shelling of the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces twice attacked the vicinity of vovchans рогka and starica. One confrontation is still going on. Aviation strikes were suffered by vovchans .kí farms, ohrímívka and small passages.
In the kupâns янkomu direction Russian forces during the day four times tried to advance to Ukrainian positions near zagrizovoye and petropavlívka. Two Russian attacks are ongoing so far.
In the Lymans 16komu direction, Russian forces attacked 16 times in the areas of the peršotravnevogo, hope, novosergíivki, makííívki, novoêgorívki, yampolívki, terniv, grigorívki and serebryanskogo forest. Ukrainian soldiers stopped all attacks of the Russian zagarbnikív.
In the Kramators такkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled nine Russian attacks in the areas of Chasovoye Yar, Bila Gora, Kli .yivka and Stupochok.
In the Toretsky direction, Russian forces carried out 11 offensive actions at the position of Ukrainian troops in the areas of Toretsk, Diliyivka, Crimea and Scherbinivka.
Since the beginning of the day, the Russian enemy has tried 40 times to infiltrate Ukrainian defense in the direction of the Intercession in the areas of Mirny, Timofiyivka, Baranivka, Peace-loving, Promena, Fox, Green, New Labor, Pokrovsk, Sand, Shevchenko, Solony, Novooelenivka, Kotlinoy and Novovasilivka. Ukrainian units have fought off 39 attacks, one confrontation is ongoing so far. According to the available information, the casualties of the Russian occupiers to date amount to 365 people have been killed and wounded, plus one armored car and one vehicle have been destroyed, in addition to four cars and two motorcycles have been damaged.
In the kurakhívs .komu direction, Russian forces 16 times attacked Ukrainian positions. The greatest activity was shown in the area of Sribnogo, Petropavlivka, Konstantinopol, Kurakhovy, Constantinopol and Dachny, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks, five clashes are still ongoing. Air strike kabama suffered ulakly, oleksíivka and konstantinopil. The loss of the Russian enemy in this direction since the beginning of the day was 125 occupants killed and wounded, to the same, two infantry fighting vehicles, two cars, two motorcycles and one cannon were destroyed.
In the vremívs доkomu direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 15 Russian attacks near the dachny and yantarnogo, two more combat are ongoing so far. The enemy launched an aviation strike on temirivka, spill, iskri and burlatsky, dropping 11 controlled aviation bombs.
In the Orihivsky direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled one attempt of the Russian enemy to advance in the area of the settlement Novodanilivka.
In the Pridnipro direction, the Russian enemy does not abandon trying to knock out Ukrainian units from occupied positions, where during the day he carried out two unsuccessful assaults of the positions of Ukrainian soldiers in the areas of Zabich and Cossack islands.
In the Kursk direction Ukrainian defenders repelled 30 enemy attacks. In addition, Russian forces launched nine air strikes with 19 guided bombs and carried out 265 artillery shelling positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
In the sívers кkomu and gulyajpíl таs .komu directions the Russian opponent did not carry out active actions.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of one mechanised brigade of the AFU, one special operations brigade, and one territorial defence brigade near Turovo, Perovskoye, and Sinelnikovo (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 50 troops, one tank, six motor vehicles, two 152-mm D-20 guns, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

As a result of successful offensive actions, units of the Zapad Group of Forces liberated Nadiya (Lugansk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade near Dvurechnaya, Glushkovka, Ivanovka, Zagryzovo, Zeleny Gay (Kharkov region), Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), and Serebryansky forestry. One counter-attack launched by an AFU assault detachment was repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 590 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, three pickup trucks, one 152-mm D-20 gun, three 122-mm D-30 howitzers, one Czech-made 122-mm Striga MLRS combat vehicle, two U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, two U.S.-made HMMWV armoured fighting vehicles, one U.S.-made 105-mm M101 gun, and one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar. One ammunition depot was wiped out.

Units of the Yug Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on formations of one motorised infantry brigade, eight mechanised brigades, one mountain assault brigade, one airmobile brigade, and one infantry brigade of the AFU near Predtechino, Seversk, Andreyevka, Petrovskoye, Konstantinovka, Nikolayevka, Chasov Yar, Novomarkovo, and Kurakhovo (Donetsk People's Republic). Two counter-attacks launched by the enemy's assault detachments were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to more than 250 troops, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, one 152-mm D-20 gun, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun, and one ammunition depot.

Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of seven mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one jaeger brigade, one airmobile brigade, two assault battalions of the AFU, one marine brigade, one territorial defence brigade, one national guard brigade, and one assault brigade of the National Police of Ukraine near Dzerzhinsk, Druzhba, Rozovka, Mirolyubovka, Slavyanka, Sribnoye, Udachnoye, Novosergeyevka, Katerinovka, and Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People's Republic). Twelve counter-attacks launched by AFU formations were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to more than 440 troops, one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, three armoured personnel carriers, including U.S.-made M113 and M1117 armoured personnel carriers, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, eight motor vehicles, one French-made 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and five 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences and inflicted losses on formations of two mechanised brigades of the AFU, one marine brigade, and three territorial defence brigades near Zelenoye Pole, Neskuchnoye, Novopol, and Velikaya Novoselka (Donetsk People's Republic). One counter-attack launched by AFU units was repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 170 troops, five motor vehicles, and one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system. One electronic warfare station was eliminated.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two infantry brigades, one coastal defence brigade of the AFU, two territorial defence brigades, and one national guard brigade near Malye Shcherbaki, Pyatikhatki, Novoandreyevka (Zaporozhye region), Zelenovka, and Yantarnoye (Kherson region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 70 troops, three motor vehicles, one 152-mm D-20 gun, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and one electronic warfare station.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces struck infrastructure of military airfields, attack UAV workshop and depot, as well as engaged manpower and hardware clusters of the enemy in 132 areas.

Air defence units shot down eight U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles and 72 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 651 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 39,279 unmanned aerial vehicles, 590 anti-aircraft missile systems, 20,221 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,506 MLRS combat vehicles, 20,186 field artillery guns and mortars, and 29,857 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

In the course of offensive actions, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of one heavy mechanised brigade, one tank brigade, three mechanised brigades, two air assault brigades, one marine brigade, four territorial defence brigades, and one brigade of Yug Special Operations Centre of the AFU near Aleksandriya, Bondarevka, Goncharovka, Daryino, Zaoleshenka, Kolmakov, Kurilovka, Leonidovo, Loknya, Malaya Loknya, Makhovka, Melovoy, Mirny, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novaya Sorochina, Staraya Sorochina, Sudzha, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, and Yuzhny.

Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the enemy near Viktorovka, Guyevo, Zamostye, Lebedevka, Lokinskaya, Martynovka, Mikhaylovka, Russkoye Porechnoye, Sverdlikovo as well as Basovka, Belovody, Vodolagi, Druzhba, Zhuravka, Marchikhina Buda, and Yunakovka in Sumy region.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 540 troops, four tanks, one infantry fighting vehicle, one armoured fighting vehicle, 25 armoured fighting vehicles, 49 motor vehicles, one artillery gun, and four mortars.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 47,810 troops, 267 tanks, 205 infantry fighting vehicles, 147 armoured personnel carriers, 1,418 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,370 motor vehicles, 341 artillery guns, 42 MLRS launchers, including 11 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 14 anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven transport-loading vehicles, 83 EW stations, 13 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 28 units of engineering and other materiel, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, seven armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
