A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Russia has made further gains to the south of Pokrovsk, a key logistical hub in Donetsk oblast. Russian forces are currently approximately 3km from the southern outskirts of Pokrovsk, having reportedly taken the village of Shevchenko. Shevchenko itself lies at an intersection of two routes leading into Pokrovsk. Russia will likely continue to make gains towards Pokrovsk whilst continuing to advance westwards to the south of the town.

Russian forces have highly likely intersected Velyka Novsilka's north-eastern logistics route, the T-05-18. In early December, Ukrainian forces reportedly regained control of the village of Novyi Komar, and continue to maintain one remaining supply route to Velyka Novsilka from the north.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, there have been 214 combat clashes since the beginning of this day. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively interrupt the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.

The largest number of fights took place in the sivers Вреkomu, pokrovskkomu, kurakhivsk шаkomu and vremívs кіkomu directions.

Russian zagarbniki caused one rocket (2 rockets), 34 aviation (53 CAB) strikes on the territory of Ukraine. In addition, 606 kamikaze drones were involved and more than 3,400 shells were carried out at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian opponent stormed Ukrainian positions near high yaruga, vovčans Наka and quiet. Nine attacks repelled by the defense forces, one confrontation is ongoing.
Russian losses to the direction so far have 90 soldiers killed and wounded, four transport units, nine BPLAs and a Russian special equipment unit destroyed; three vehicles and one artillery system damaged as well.
Kupyansky direction: the Russian enemy carried out offensive actions near Zagrizovoye and Lozova. Three fights down, one more to go.
In the Lyman direction Russian invaders 18 times stormed the positions of Defense Forces near Novoegorivka, Grekivka, Terniv, Tverdohlibovogo and Nadia. Ukrainian defenders stopped 15 enemy attacks, three clashes are still ongoing.
Sever direction: Russian forces 33 times stormed Ukrainian positions near Bílogorivka, Verkhnyokamâns ваkogo, Ivano-Daryivka and Viymki, currently fighting in 17 locations.
In the kramators Часkomu direction, Russian forces attacked three times in the areas of time yaru and stupočok, all attempts of the zagarbnikív to advance stopped by Ukrainian soldiers.
In the Toretsky direction, with the support of bombardment aviation, Russian forces carried out 11 assault actions. Zagarbniki stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Toretsk and Scherbinivka. Seven Russian attacks have been repelled, four clashes are still ongoing.
Intercession direction: since the beginning of this day, Russian forces attacked 27 times in the areas of Mirolyubivka, Promenya, Fox, Dachensky, Zelenoy, Sand and Novoolenivka. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 16 attacks, 11 combat clashes are still ongoing.
According to the available data, at this time, the Russian losses for today amounted to 362 soldiers killed and wounded; two tanks, six cars, PTRK and the antenna of the BpLA control destroyed by Ukrainian defenders.
In the Kurakhivs зуkomu direction, the Russian zagarbniki attacked 31 times near the old terniv, the suncívka, the star, the kurakhovogo and the uspenívka. 23 attacks of the invaders have already been repelled, the battles continue.
In the Vremívs вkomu direction, fights near Dry Yaliv, Spill, Zelenivka and Makarivka. In the areas of konstantinopol Вs Тkogo, trudovogo, new mosquito, novosilki Ukrainian defenders repelled 23 attacks of the Russian enemy.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, the Defense Forces of Ukraine stopped three Russian attempts to attack Ukrainian positions.
In Kur 26iní, Ukrainian defenders repelled 26 Russian assaults, zagarbniki continue to attack.
In other directions, there is no much change.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on armed formations of one motorised infantry brigade of the AFU, one territorial defence brigade, and one border detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine near Liptsy, Volchansk, Prilipka, and Zolochev (Kharkov region). One counter-attack launched by an AFU assault detachment was repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to more than 70 troops, two motor vehicles, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer. One ammunition depot was wiped out.

Units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the AFU, two territorial defence brigades, and one national guard brigade near Kutkovka, Dvurechnaya, Zagryzovo, Lozovaya, Borovaya, Kovsharovka, Kupyansk, Glushkovka (Kharkov region), and Serebryansky forestry. Two counter-attacks launched by AFU units were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to more than 550 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, two armoured personnel carriers, nine motor vehicles, one Italian-made Iveco armoured fighting vehicle, two Italian-made 105-mm Melara guns, one 155-mm Bogdana self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, three 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and one UK-made 105-mm L119 gun. One ammunition depot and one Anklav electronic warfare station were destroyed.

As a result of decisive actions, units of the Yug Group of Forces liberated Vesely Gay (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on formations of two mechanised brigades, two airmobile brigades of the AFU, and one territorial defence brigade near Seversk, Zvanovka, Dachnoye, and Kurakhovo (Donetsk People's Republic). Two counter-attacks launched by the enemy's assault detachments were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 400 troops, one tank, two armoured fighting vehicles, six motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one UK-made 105-mm L119 gun.

As a result of active offensive operations, units of the Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Pushkino (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one jaeger brigade of the AFU, one marine brigade, and one assault brigade of the National Police of Ukraine near Dzerzhinsk, Andreyevka, and Shevchenko (Donetsk People's Republic).

Ten counter-attacks launched by the AFU armed formations were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to more than 280 troops, two tanks, three pickup trucks, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, two U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, and one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences and inflicted losses on formations of one mechanised brigade of the AFU and one territorial defence brigade near Temirovka (Zaporozhye region), Vremevka, and Zelenoye Pole (Donetsk People's Republic). Four counter-attacks launched by the enemy's assault detachments were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 155 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, five motor vehicles, one French-made 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery system, and one 80-mm Partisan MLRS launcher.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one mountain assault brigade, one heavy mechanised brigade of the AFU, and one national guard brigade near Novoandreyevka, Malaya Tokmachka, and Novopavlovka (Zaporozhye region).

The AFU losses amounted to more than 70 troops, four motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, and one 152-mm D-20 gun. One ammunition depot and one electronic warfare station were destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces eliminated one battle command vehicle, one U.S.-made AN/MPQ-65 radar station, four U.S.-made Patriot SAM launchers, as well as struck infrastructure of military airfields and engaged manpower and military hardware of the enemy in 146 areas.

Air defence units shot down one MiG-29 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force, eight U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, and 116 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 650 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 37,809 unmanned aerial vehicles, 590 anti-aircraft missile systems, 19,797 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,501 MLRS combat vehicles, 19,644 field artillery guns and mortars, and 29,235 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

In the course of offensive operations, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of five mechanised brigades, one tank brigade, two air assault brigades, one marine brigade, and two territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Guyevo, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Pavlovka, Pogrebki, Russkoye Porechnoye, Sverdlikovo, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, as well as thwarted two counter-attacks launched by the enemy's assault detachments.

Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of the AFU near Aleksandriya, Ivashkovsky, Kurilovka, Mirny as well as Basovka, Belovody, Zhuravka, Petrushovka, and Popovka in Sumy region.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 400 troops, one tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, three armoured fighting vehicles, seven motor vehicles, three artillery guns, and 10 mortars. Five AFU servicemen surrendered.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 40,860 troops, 241 tanks, 180 infantry fighting vehicles, 125 armoured personnel carriers, 1,256 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,138 motor vehicles, 314 artillery guns, 40 MLRS launchers, including 11 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 13 anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven transport-loading vehicles, 74 EW stations, 13 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 27 units of engineering and other materiel, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, six armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
