A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that on 29 November 2024, Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed elements of a S-400 air defence system in Simferopol, Crimea. Social media highlighted an explosion and detonation of rocket fuel associated with the destruction of air defence system components. Two impact craters measuring 13.5m, dispersed debris and five emergency response vehicles were identified from imagery.

This is the second reported successful targeting of Russian S-400 air defence systems by Ukrainian Armed Forces in November, following the destruction of a S-400 air defence system in Kursk Oblast on 23 November 2024.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the day, there have been 151 combat clashes, the Russian enemy launched 34 air strikes, dropping 54 KABs, deployed 681 kamikaze drones, launched almost 4000 shells of settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian terrorists five times without success stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the area of Glibokoye and Vovchansk.
The losses of the Russian occupation troops for today amounted to 54 occupiers killed and wounded. Ukrainian units destroyed two vehicles and 16 Russian BPLAs, and damaged two combat-armored vehicles and five vehicles.
Seven times the Russian enemy attacked Ukrainian fortifications in the Kupyans Сkomu direction in the areas of Lozova and Zagrizovoye, two confrontations are still ongoing. The aviation strikes of kabama suffered settlements of kívsharívka, kruglyakivka and lozova.
Fourteen Russian attacks were repelled by Ukrainian warriors near Grekivka, Green Grove, Nadia, Makiyivka, Torsky and Yampolivka in the Lyman direction.
In the Sivers верkomu direction, the Russian enemy did not carry out offensive actions, but made aviation strikes on fedorivka, kuzminivka and sivers Наku.
In the Kramators Наkomu direction, two attempts of the Russian zagarbnikív to advance near the Time Yar and Orihovo-Vasilívka ended in failure. Enemy aviation struck Druzhkivka.
In the Toretsky direction, the Russian occupiers today eight times stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Toretsk, Sherbinivka and Nelipivka. Defense forces are steadily holding down the pressure, two clashes are ongoing.
Intensely attacks the Russian opponent of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. During the day, Russian forces carried out 51 offensive actions. The largest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the areas of Mirolûbívka, Lisívka, Promenâ, Dachensky, Chumakky and Shevchenko. Ukrainian defenders bravely hold the border, repelled 46 enemy attacks, five clashes continue so far.
According to preliminary calculations, today Ukrainian warriors eliminated 139 and wounded 218 Russian invaders. 11 units of automotive equipment were destroyed, and the artillery system was also damaged.
In the Kurakhiv direction at this time of the day, there are 37 combat clashes. Terrorists, supported by aviation, tried to advance in the areas of Sontsivka, Stari Terniv, Zory, Dalnyi, Dachnyi and Kurakhovy.
In the vremívs кkomu direction, Russian forces during the day made 27 attacks in the direction of konstantinopol, novosilka and near dry yaliv, watchful, neskuchnogo and gracious. Six fights in the making so far.
In the pridniprovsk direction, three Russian assaults have been unsuccessful.
In Kur урiní Ukrainian defenders repelled ten attacks of the zagarbnikív, currently one combat is ongoing. The Russian enemy a day made 22 aviation strikes on his territory, dropping 36 controlled air bombs.
In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the environment.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, the units of the Sever Group of Forces have defeated units of two territorial defence brigades near Velikiye Prokhody and Volchansk (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses were up to 75 troops and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

The units of the Zapad Group of Forces have improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade, one airmobile brigade, three territorial defence brigades, and one National Guard brigade close to Dvurechnaya, Zagryzovo, Zeleny Gai, Kupyansk (Kharkov region), Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Nadiya (Lugansk People's Republic), and Serebryansky forestry.

Russian troops have repelled nine counter-attacks of AFU assault detachments.

The AFU losses were up to 455 troops, two pickup trucks, one 155-mm M198 howitzer, one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun, one 155-mm FH-70 howitzer, one UK-made 105-mm L119 gun, two 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

The Yug Group of Forces' units continued to advance into the depths of enemy defences, defeated formations of one mechanised brigade, one mountain assault brigade, and one air assault brigade of the AFU near Kurakhovo, Verkhnekamenskoye, Novomarkovo, Ostrovskogo, Ulakly, and Yantarnoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

One counter-attack of enemy assault detachment has been repelled.

The AFU losses were up to 240 troops, two Kozak armoured fighting vehicles, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun. Two ammunition depots have been destroyed.

The units of the Tsentr Group of Forces have captured more advantageous lines, defeated manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one assault brigade, and one assault battalion of the AFU close to Dzerzhinsk, Dimitrov, Pushkino, Zheltoye, and Zarya (Donetsk People's Republic).

In addition, 10 AFU counter-attacks have been repelled.

The AFU losses were more than 555 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, two U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, two pickup trucks, two 152-mm Msta-B howitzers, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and three 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

The Vostok Group of Forces' units have improved the situation along the front line, defeated units of one marine brigade and three territorial defence brigades close to Konstantinopol, Dneproenergiya, Vremevka, and Novoocheretovatoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

Two counter-attacks launched by enemy assault detachments have been repelled.

The AFU losses were up to 150 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, two motor vehicles, one 155-mm Bogdana self-propelled artillery system, one 155-mm UK-made FH-70 howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and one electronic warfare station.

The units of the Dnepr Group of Forces have engaged manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade and two territorial defence brigades close to Malaya Tokmachka, Novoandreyevka (Zaporozhye region), Antonovka, Pridneprovskoye (Kherson region), and Kherson.

The AFU losses were up to 55 troops, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, and five motor vehicles.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have delivered strikes at the infrastructure of military airfields, railway facilities providing delivery of Western-made hardware to the AFU, assembly and storage sites for unmanned aerial vehicles, one POL depot as well as engaged manpower and military hardware clusters in 147 areas.

Air defence facilities have shot down 10 U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 36 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 649 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 37,504 unmanned aerial vehicles, 586 anti-aircraft missile systems, 19,713 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,500 MLRS combat vehicles, 19,274 field artillery guns and mortars, and 29,109 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

The units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of three mechanised brigades, one heavy mechanised brigade, one tank brigade, three air assault brigades, one marine brigade, one security brigade as well as three territorial defence brigades near Viktorovka, Guyevo, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, and Sverdlikovo.

Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of the enemy near Aleksandriya, Kazachya Loknya, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Nizhny Klin, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye as well as Basovka, Belovody, Veselovka, Zhuravka, Miropolye, and Pavlovka (Sumy region).

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses have amounted to more than 200 troops, two tanks, eight armoured fighting vehicles, two motor vehicles, and three mortars.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 39,460 troops, 234 tanks, 171 infantry fighting vehicles, 123 armoured personnel carriers, 1,241 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,100 motor vehicles, 308 artillery guns, 40 MLRS launchers, including 11 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 13 anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven transport-loading vehicles, 72 EW stations, 13 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 27 units of engineering and other materiel, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, six armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
