A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively thwart the Russian enemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him an effective fire effect, exhaustion throughout the frontline.
In total, 193 combat encounters have taken place since the beginning of this day.
Russian zagarbniki launched one missile and 25 aviation strikes on the territory of Ukraine, using one controlled missile and 36 cab. In addition, the Russians have engaged 717 kamikaze drones and carried out more than four thousand shells on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 6 Russian attacks in the areas of vovchansk and starica - four attacks repelled, two confrontations continue so far. The Russian enemy made air strikes on the settlements of Neskučne and Cossack Lopan, applying eight KAB.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces seven times attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Dvorichnaya, Petropavlivka, Green Grove, Kolisnikivka and Lozova. Ukrainian defenders repelled six attacks, another battle is currently ongoing.
In the Lyman direction since the beginning of the day, Russian zagarbniki 11 times attacked the positions of Ukrainians near the settlements of Grekivka, Cherneshina, Kopanka, Yampolivka and Terni.
In the Sívers нашихkomu direction throughout the day, Russian forces carried out one assault of the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the area of bílogorívka.
Four combat clashes near Grigorivka and Chasovogo Yar have been recorded in the Kramators якіkomu direction, which have successfully repelled Ukrainian defenders.
In the Toretsky direction, Russians attacked the positions of defense forces eight times. The main efforts of the invasion were concentrated near the settlements of Toretsk, Nelipivka and Scherbinivka. Three combat clashes are currently ongoing.
Since the beginning of this day, with the support of bombardment aviation in the Pokrovsky direction, the Russians have tried 40 times to break through Ukrainian defense near the settlements of Mirolyubivka, Rumin, Lisivka, Krasny Yar, Dachenskie, Yellow, Chumakke and New Labor. There's still one battle going on.
The Russian enemy suffers significant losses - today in this direction more than 411 invaders were defamed, 200 of them - irrevocably. One car and an opponent's mortar were also destroyed.
In the Kurakhiv direction, the enemy attacked 67 times Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Berestka, Stari Tern, Soncivka, Novodmitrivka, Zorya, Kurakhove, Dalne, Katerynivka, Antonivka and Hanivka, two clashes continue. According to the detailed information, 100 Russian invaders were damaged, 45 of them - irrevocably, to the same, two motorcycles and two portable stations of the enemy radio-electronic combat.
In the Vremívs ріїkomu direction, Russian forces carried out 40 offensive actions near the Konstantinopolsky, Rozdolny, Great Novosilka, Novoandriivka, Novosilka and Novopol. Five clashes continue so far. The enemy caused an aviation strike with one controlled bomb in the area of Andriyivka.
In the direction of Gulyaipils Наkomu, Russian forces made an air strike, launched assault aviation in the area of the settlement of Gulya Pole.
In the pridniprovsk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two Russian attacks near the dnipro and the island of cossacks, the Russian opponent was unsuccessful.
In other directions, the situation has not changed significantly.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the AFU 92nd Air Assault Brigade near Liptsy (Kharkov region).
Three counter-attacks launched by the enemy's assault detachments were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 35 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, three motor vehicles, two 152-mm D-20 guns, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer.
Units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 14th, 53rd, 66th mechanised brigades, 25th Airborne Brigade, 68th Jaeger Brigade of the AFU, 109th and 241st territorial defence brigades near Lozovaya, Kupyansk, Petropavlovka (Kharkov region), Serebryanka, Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Nadiya (Lugansk People's Republic), and Serebryansky forestry.
Nine counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 3rd Tank Brigade, 116th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU, 113th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 1st National Guard Brigade were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 490 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, two armoured fighting vehicles, six pickup trucks, one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, one UK-made 105-mm L-119 gun, and four ammunition depots.
Units of the Yug Group of Forces captured more advantageous lines and positions and inflicted losses on formations of the 23rd, 54th, 110th mechanised brigades, 46th Airmobile Brigade, 79th Air Assault Brigade, and 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU near Andreyevka, Konstantinovka, Nikolayevka, Shevchenko, Grigorovka, Chasov Yar, and Kurakhovo (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 260 troops, three motor vehicles, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun, and two ammunition depots.
Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 95th Mechanised Brigade, 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 111th, 120th territorial defence brigades, 14th and 15th national guard brigades near Grodovka, Pustynka, Novy Trud, Vozdvizhenka, Dzerzhinsk, and Zarya (Donetsk People's Republic).
Nine counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 53rd, 100th, 151st mechanised brigades, 49th Assault Battalion of the AFU, 35th and 38th marine brigades were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to more than 525 troops, four Kozak armoured fighting vehicles, one U.S.-made MaxxPro armoured fighting vehicle, two pickup trucks, three 152-mm Msta-B howitzers, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and three 122-mm D-30 howitzers.
Units of the Vostok Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences and inflicted losses on formations of the 151st Mechanised Brigade of the AFU and 108th Territorial Defence Brigade near Velikayaya Novoselka (Donetsk People's Republic) and Komsomolskoye (Zaporozhye region).
Two counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the AFU 32nd Mechanised Brigade were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 150 troops, one German-made Leopard tank, four U.S.-made HMMWV and MaxxPro armoured fighting vehicles, 14 motor vehicles, one French-made 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery system, one 155-mm Bogdana self-propelled artillery system, and one 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system.
Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 31st, 110th mechanised brigades of the AFU, and 124th Territorial Defence Brigade near Malaya Tokmachka (Zaporozhye region), Dneprovskoye, and Beregovoye (Kherson region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 55 troops, two motor vehicles, and one ammunition depot.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack drones, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces struck infrastructure of military airfields, power objects ensuring operation of Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, UAV command posts, as well as engaged manpower and hardware clusters of the enemy in 127 areas.
Air defence units shot down one U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectile and 69 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 649 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 37,082 unmanned aerial vehicles, 586 anti-aircraft missile systems, 19,590 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,497 MLRS combat vehicles, 18,847 field artillery guns and mortars, and 28,935 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.
Units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 21st, 41st, 44th, 47th mechanised brigades, the 17th Heavy Mechanised Brigade, the 5th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 112th, 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Aleksandriya, Viktorovka, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, and Sverdlikovo.
Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the enemy near Viktorovka, Guyevo, Zaoleshenka, Kruglenkoye, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Mirny, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, Sverdlikovo, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, as well as Basovka, Belovody, Zhuravka, Miropolye, and Pavlovka (Sumy region).
Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 250 troops, one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, two armoured fighting vehicles, two motor vehicles, and four mortars. One AFU serviceman surrendered.
Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses have amounted to more than 37,355 troops, 216 tanks, 161 infantry fighting vehicles, 123 armoured personnel carriers, 1,206 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,065 motor vehicles, 305 artillery guns, 40 MLRS launchers, including HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 13 anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven transport-loading vehicles, 70 EW stations, 13 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 27 units of engineering and other materiel, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, six armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.
The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
