A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that the overall tempo of maritime operations in the Black Sea remains low. Ukraine continues to be successful in restricting Russian maritime operations to the eastern Black Sea. The Russian Federation Navy's (RFN) perception of the threat of attack from Ukraine is evident through their frequent dispersal training and anti-Uncrewed Surface Vessel/Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle exercises in and around Novorossiysk. Ukraine continues to undermine the credibility of the Russian Black Sea Fleet by seeking to target naval infrastructure and vessels in the Black Sea.

The massed missile attack on 28 November 2024 targeting Critical National Infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine included launches from RFN vessels operating in the Black Sea. The Ukrainian Air Force reported 28 land-attack cruise missiles were fired, and that their air-defence system was able to intercept a high percentage of incoming weapon systems fired from both the RFN and Russian Long Range Aviation.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the day, there have been 194 combat clashes, Russian forces launched 15 air and two missile strikes, engaged 24 KABs and two missiles, deployed 407 kamikaze drones, launched about 3,000 shells on settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian terrorists six times without success stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of settlements Gliboke, Liptsi, Staritsa and Vovchansk.
Fourteen times the Russian enemy has attacked Ukrainian fortresses in the Kupyansky direction, in the areas of Western, Pi .any, Lozova and Zagrizovy, three confrontations are currently underway.
Ten Russian attacks were repelled by Ukrainian warriors near Tverdohlibovoye, Druzhelyubivka, Novoyegorivka, Grekivka, Makiyivka, Terniv, Torsky, Grigorivka, Kopanok and in the Serebryansky Forest in the Lyman direction.
In the Sívers ньоkomu direction, Russian forces made one attempt to appease Ukrainian defenders from occupied positions in the area of the settlement of Verkhnyokamians верke.
In the Kramatorsky direction, two attempts by the Russian forces to advance near the settlements of Times of Yar and Stupochka ended in failure.
In the Toretsky direction, Russian forces today five times stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Toretsk. Two clashes are being sharpened so far. The aviation strike was hit by the settlements of Crimea and Petrivka, on which the Russian enemy dropped three controlled bombs.
With the support of bombarding aviation, the Russian attacks the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. During the day, Russian forces committed 39 offensive actions. The greatest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the areas of settlements Shevchenko, Pishnete, Novotroitske, Novooleksiyivka, Noviy Trud, Dachensk, Lisivka, Peace lover, Rumin and Pokrovsk. Ukrainian defenders courageously hold the border, repelled 36 enemy attacks, three confrontations continue so far.
According to preliminary estimates, today Ukrainian warriors eliminated 187 and wounded 239 Russian invaders. Destroyed one mortar, one portable radio electronic combat station and eight units of Russian automobile equipment. One combat armored vehicle was also damaged.
In the Kurakhiv direction at this time of the day there are 47 combat clashes. Russian forces tried to advance in the areas of Soncivka, Starih Terniv, Dachensky, Zory, Kurakhovogo, Dachny, Katerynivka, Elizabethtivka, Hanivka, Antonivka and Uspenivka. Ukrainian defenders in this direction eliminated 68 and wounded 122 Russian invaders, in addition damaged two tanks, eight armored vehicles and seven units of Russian vehicles. A Russian tank and four armored vehicles were also damaged.
On the Vremívs міkomu direction during the day, 19 attacks of Russian units in the areas of labor, konstantinopol Наs Наkogo, dry yalív, blagodatnogo and novodarívka. So far, one confrontation is being sharpened. During the offensive, Russian forces actively used aviation in the areas of Komar and Rozlyv settlements, dropping ten controlled aviation bombs.
In the direction of Gulyaipils вkomu, Russian forces did not carry out offensive actions.
Near Novoandriivka, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled one attack of Russians in the orihiv direction.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, two Russian assaults were unsuccessful.
On the Kurs Наkomu direction today, Ukrainian defenders repelled 21 Russian assault. In addition, Russian forces launched 316 artillery shells on the populated areas of the region and the positions of Ukrainian defenders.
In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the environment.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, the units of the Sever Group of Forces have defeated formations of one AFU air assault brigade and one border detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine close to Pervomayskoye and Alisovka (Kharkov region). The AFU losses were up to 25 troops and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

The Zapad Group of Forces' units have improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on military personnel and hardware of three mechanised brigades, one airmobile brigade, one assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one territorial defence brigade, and two National Guard brigades close to Lozovaya, Zagryzovo, Kupyansk, Glushkovka (Kharkov region), Terny (Donetsk People's Republic), and Serebryansky forestry. In addition, 11 counter-attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been repelled.

The AFU losses were up to 515 troops, three pickup trucks, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and three U.S.-made 105-mm M119 guns. One ammunition depots and one Anklav-N electronic warfare station have been neutralised.

The Yug Group of Forces' units have taken more advantageous positions, defeated formations of five mechanised brigades, two airmobile brigades of the AFU close to Ulakly, Grigorovka, Seversk, Vasyukovka, Chasov Yar, Dachnoye, Kurakhovo, Annovka, and Uspenovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses were up to 285 troops, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, and one pickup truck. Two ammunition depots have been wiped out.

The units of the Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depths of enemy defences, inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of three mechanised brigades, two jaeger brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as well as one marine brigade near Dzerzhinsk, Krasnoye, Zarya, Novopustynka, Ukrainsk, Shcherbinovka, and Pushkino (Donetsk People's Republic).

In addition, 10 AFU counter-attacks have been repelled. The AFU losses were up to 440 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, seven motor vehicles, three 152mm D-20 howitzers, two 152mm Msta-B howitzers, and one 122mm D-30 howitzers.

The units of the Vostok Group of Forces have improved the situation along the front line, defeated units of two territorial defence brigades, and one National Guard brigade close to Velikaya Novosyolka, Konstantinopol, Vremevka, and Storozhevoye (Donetsk People's Republic). One counter-attack of enemy assault detachment has been repelled.

The AFU losses were up to 150 troops, one U.S.-made HMMWV and MaxxPro armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, two 155-mm Bogdana self-propelled artillery system, two 152-mm Akatsiya and one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems.

The units of the Dnepr Group of Forces have delivered strikes at enemy manpower and hardware of one infantry brigade, one mechanised brigade, and two territorial defence brigades close to Orekhov, Novopokrovka (Zaporozhye region), Ponyatovka, and Antonovka (Kherson region).

The AFU losses were up to 40 troops, four motor vehicles, and one U.S.-made M777 howitzer.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged AFU manpower and hardware clusters in 141 areas during the day

Air defence systems have shot down four U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 32 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 649 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 37,559 unmanned aerial vehicles, 586 anti-aircraft missile systems, 19,725 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,500 MLRS combat vehicles, 19,411 field artillery guns and mortars, and 29,138 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

The units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of three mechanised brigades, one heavy mechanised brigade, two tank brigades, two air assault brigades, one marine brigade, and three territorial defence brigades of the AFU close to Guyevo, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolskoye, Novoivanovka, and Sverdlikovo.

Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of the enemy near Aleksandriya, Kruglenkoye, Mirny, Nizhny Klin, Basovka, Belovody, Vodolagi, Vesyolovka, and Zhuravka in Sumy region.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses were more than 200 troops, one tank, three U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, seven motor vehicles, and six mortars. One AFU serviceman surrendered.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 39,860 troops, 235 tanks, 174 infantry fighting vehicles, 123 armoured personnel carriers, 1,249 armoured fighting vehicles, 1,111 motor vehicles, 308 artillery guns, 40 MLRS launchers, including 11 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 13 anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven transport-loading vehicles, 72 EW stations, 13 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 27 units of engineering and other materiel, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, six armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
