A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Ukraine's General Staff confirmed Ukraine struck the Feodosia marine oil terminal in Russian-occupied Crimea on 7 October 2024. This terminal was previously targeted in March 2024 by Ukrainian uncrewed aerial vehicles.

Ukrainian attacks continue to incrementally degrade Russian military capabilities on the Crimean peninsula. Targets struck in 2024 have also included air-defence systems, airfields, command centres, naval facilities, logistics sites and the Kerch Strait crossing.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the day, the total number of fighting clashes along the entire frontline has increased to 191, Russian forces launched 47 air strikes using 83 CABs, more than 650 kamikaze drones strikes, and carried out about 3,250,000 shells of positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements using different types of weapons.

Seven combat clashes with Russian zagarbnikami took place in the Kharkiv direction. Six attacks have been rebuked in the area of Starytsia, another fight is ongoing.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces 16 times tried to push Ukrainian units out of occupied positions near Golubivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Kolisnikivka, Lozova, Cherry and Hope. The three attacks are still going on.
21 times Russian forces attacked in the Lyman direction, tried to advance in the directions of Grekivka, Druzhelyubivka, Katerinivka, Novomikhailivka, Novosadovogo, Nevsky, Torsky, Serebryanka, Kremínnoí̈ and Bílogorivka. There is a fight near Novosadovoye.
Eight combat clashes took place in the Kramatorsky direction. Activity of the Russian occupiers showed in the areas of Grigorivka, Minkivka, Time Yar and Ivanivsky, seven Russian attempts to improve their position were stopped by Ukrainian soldiers, ongoing combat near Time Yar.
Russian forces tried to infiltrate Ukrainian defense six times in the Toretsky direction. In the areas of Toretsk, Nelipivka and Sherbanivka, the Russian occupiers received a harsh cut off from Ukrainian defenders. All attacks are called off.
In the Pokrovsky direction throughout the day, Russian forces committed 45 assault and offensive actions. The largest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the areas of Suha Balka, Beam, Suhiy Yar, Novotoretske, Mikhailivka, Lisivka, Selidove. In total, 35 attacks in the direction of Ukrainian defenders have already repelled, ten more fighting - continue.
According to the information available at this time, 365 people have been killed and injured for today's death of the Russian aggressor in this direction. Destroyed three tanks, one combat armored car, one radio station. In addition, one tank, one BTR, two BMPs, one enemy cannon and three cars were damaged.
Intensely attacks the Russian enemy of Ukrainian defenders in the Kurakhiv direction. At this time of the day, there are 45 combat clashes. Zagarbniki maintain high activity, trying to advance in the regions of Izmailivka, Novodmitrivka, Kurakhovy, Girnyk, Antonivka, Konstantinivka, Zoryanogo, Gostrogy, Georgiyivka, Katerinivka and Vodyany. Defense Forces units repelled 36 attacks of the enemy, nine attacks are still ongoing. The situation is complicated, but controlled by the Defense Forces. Ukrainian soldiers are making efforts to prevent the advancement of the Russian opponent into the depths of Ukrainian territory.

Defense Forces of Ukraine continue the operation in the Kursk region. Russian aviation continues to strike controlled aviation bombs on the territory of Russia. At the moment it is known about 24 aviation strikes with the application of 37 cab.
In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the environment.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Liptsy and Volchansk directions, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 92nd Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, and 125th Territorial Defence Brigade near Liptsy, Russkaya Lozovaya, and Volchanskiye Khutora (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 45 troops and three 122-mm D-30 howitzers. One UAV depot and one field ammunition depot were destroyed.

Units of the Zapad Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of the 3rd Tank Brigade, 43rd, 67th, 77th, 116th mechanised brigades, 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU, 110th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 27th National Guard Brigade near Kupyansk, Petropavlovka, Novoosinovo, Kruglyakovka, Lozovaya, Pershetravnevoye, Druzhelyubovka (Kharkov region), Novosadovoye, and Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

Five counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 14th, 44th mechanised brigades of the AFU, and 1st National Guard Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to more than 460 troops, four pickup trucks, one UK-made 105-mm L-119 gun, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer as well as one M113 armoured personnel carrier, one 155-mm M198 howitzer, and one M119 gun produced by the USA. One Anklav-N electronic warfare station and six field ammunition depots were destroyed.

As a result of active operations, units of the Yug Group of Forces liberated Maksimilyanovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on formations of the 24th, 30th, 54th, 93rd mechanised brigades, 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 143rd, 144th infantry brigades, 46th Airmobile Brigade, 79th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, and 116th Territorial Defence Brigade near Serebryanka, Seversk, Orekhovo-Vasilyevka, Stupochki, Predtechino, Belaya Gora, Kurakhovo, Ilyinka, and Katerinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the AFU 81st Airmobile Brigade was repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 965 troops, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers. One Anklav-N electronic warfare station and four ammunition depots were destroyed.

Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of the 32nd, 33rd, 151st mechanised brigades, 142nd, 152nd infantry brigades, 25th Airborne Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, 119th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 2nd National Guard Brigade near Dzerzhinsk, Shcherbinovka, Nikolayevka, Dimitrov, Krasnoarmeysk, Selidovo, Tsukurino, and Berestki (Donetsk People's Republic).

Ten counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 23rd, 53rd, 100th, 157th mechanised brigades, 5th Assault Brigade, 68th Jaeger Brigade, 78th Air Assault Regiment, and 425th Assault Battalion of the AFU were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 530 troops, four pickup trucks, two 152-mm Msta-B howitzers, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. Losses were inflicted on formations of the 72nd Mechanised Brigade, 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 127th, and 241st territorial defence brigades near Storozhevoye, Dobrovolye, Novoukrainka (Donetsk People's Republic), and Temirovka (Zaporozhye region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 105 troops, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, four motor vehicles, and one French-made 155-mm Caesar self-propelled artillery system.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 31st, 117th mechanised brigades, 141st Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 121st and 124th territorial defence brigades near Malaya Tokmachka, Novoandreyevka, Pavlovka (Zaporozhye region), Osokorovka, and Kamyshany (Kherson region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 55 troops, six motor vehicles, one 152-mm Giatsint-B gun, and one 152-mm D-20 gun. One field ammunition depot and two materiel depots were destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces inflicted fire damage on the power infrastructure, which supported the Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, as well as engaged clusters of enemy manpower and military hardware in 141 areas.

Air defence units shot down five U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles and 43 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 33,747 unmanned aerial vehicles, 582 anti-aircraft missile systems, 18,634 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,472 MLRS combat vehicles, 16,304 field artillery guns and mortars, and 27,313 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces continued offensive operations and inflicted losses on formations of the 22nd, 41st, 47th, 115th mechanised brigades,17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 103rd and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Novy Put, Novoivanovka, and Plyokhovo.

In addition, over the past 24 hours, units of the Sever Group of Forces repelled six enemy counter-attacks in the direction of Zeleny Shlyakh, Lyubimovka, Nizhny Klin, and Russkaya Konopelka. As a result, the AFU losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, four tanks, one Swedish-made CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle, and one armoured fighting vehicle.
Six AFU servicemen surrendered.

Army Aviation and artillery strikes inflicted losses on manpower clusters and hardware of the 22nd, 41st, 47th, 61st mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, 103rd and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Bogdanovka, Bondarevka, Guyevo, Daryino, Zazulevka, Kositsa, Kubatkin, Kolmakov, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Nikolsky, Novy Put, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, Pravda, Sverdlikovo, Sudzha, Tolsty Lug, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops delivered strikes at concentration areas in Sumy region and reserves of the 21st, 41st, 47th, 115th mechanised brigades, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 101st, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Basovka, Belovody, Belokopytovo, Vodolagi, Zhuravka, Makeyevka, Pavlovka, Revyakino, and Studenok.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 250 troops and 15 units of hardware, including five tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, including one Swedish-made CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle, eight armoured fighting vehicles as well as four guns, including two U.S.-made M777 howitzers and one UK-made L119 howitzer, one MLRS launcher, four mortars, and four motor vehicles. Six AFU servicemen surrendered.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the enemy lost more than 23,850 troops, 165 tanks, 77 infantry fighting vehicles, 100 armoured personnel carriers, 942 armoured fighting vehicles, 643 motor vehicles, 193 artillery guns, 38 MLRS launchers, including nine of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, nine anti-aircraft missile launchers, five transport and loading vehicles, 48 EW stations, nine counter-battery warfare radars, three air defence systems, 22 pieces of engineering and other equipment, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, and three armoured recovery vehicles.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
