A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that on 01 October 2024, Russia took control of Vuhledar, southern Donetsk, which lies on the intersection between the two key fronts of Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk. The capture of the town came after a renewed Russian campaign through September 2024. By the end of the month, Russian forces had nearly encircled the town, leading to the withdrawal of Ukrainian Forces.

Russia had been making sporadic attempts to seize Vuhledar for the last two years, sustaining heavy losses in the process. The town is situated on high ground which made it a more defensible position for Ukrainian forces.

It is likely that Russian forces will attempt to continue advancing beyond Vuhledar in the coming weeks. To the west, one likely objective is the town of Velyka Novosilka, Zaporizhzhia on the T0509 highway. 8km to the north is the town of Bohoiavlenka.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively thwart the enemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him an effective fire effect, exhaustion across the entire frontline.

In total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 147 combat clashes.

Russian zagarbniki carried out 69 air strikes on the territory of Ukraine, dropping 105 KABív. In addition, the Russians used 583 kamikaze drones to strike and carried out more than 3,590 shelling at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian enemy six times attacked the defensive borders of Ukrainian warriors near lipcív, vovčans ціka and starica. All Russian attacks have been repelled.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces concentrated the main efforts in the area of the settlement of Lozov, where he attacked 12 times, 7 fights are still ongoing. In addition, ten times conducting assaults in the areas of Novoosinovogo, Kučerevki, Petropavlivki, Stepova Novoselivki, Pi Кany, Glushkivki and Kruglyakivki, here Ukrainian defenders repelled all attacks.
In the Lyman direction during the day Russian zagarbniki nine times attacked the positions of Ukrainians near Novosadovoye, Makiyivka, Grekivka and Torsky. Currently, two fights are being sharpened.
In the sívers щеkomu direction, the Russian enemy was most attacked in the area of bílogorívka, here 9 attacks were struck, another battle is ongoing. Also Russian occupiers attacked in the areas of populated points Novosadove and Verkhnyokamianske. There is a fight in the area of Verkhnyokamiansky.
There are currently five clashes near Stupochok, Kalinivka, Grigorivka and Chasovoy Yar in the Kramatorsky direction, five Russian attacks have been repelled by Ukrainian defenders.
In the Toretsky direction Russians attacked the defense forces near Dachnya and Toretsk 13 times. Ukrainian soldiers have stopped five Russian attacks, eight attacks are continuing.
In the direction of Intercession. Since the beginning of this day, the Russians have 28 times tried to break through Ukrainian defense near the settlements Novotoretske, Selidove, Krutiy Yar, Fox and Ray. One battle is still going on.
The Russian enemy suffers significant losses - today in this direction 177 Russian invaders were defecated, 72 of them - irrevocably. Two combat armored vehicles and five vehicles were also destroyed. In addition, the BMP, BTR and two cannons of the opponent were damaged.
In the kurakhivs зkomu direction the Russian enemy is also active-26 times attacked Ukrainian positions near tsukurinogo, novoselidivka, izmailivka, hot, maksimílânivka, katerynivka, konstantinívka and antonívka. According to the information, three fights continue.
In the Vremívs міkomu direction, the Russian zagarbniki carried out four offensive actions near the Epiphany. During all the fights, we've suffered failures.
In the Orihivsky direction, one unsuccessful Russian attempt to advance towards Ukrainian positions near Novodanilivka took place.
In other directions, the situation has not experienced significant changes.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the units of the Sever Group of Forces in Liptsy and Volchansk directions have hit units of the AFU 57th Mechanised Infantry Brigade and the 129th Territorial Defence Brigade close to Bochkovo, Volchanskiye Khutora, and Liptsy (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses were up to 115 Ukrainian troops, two motor vehicles, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-37 counter-battery station.

The units of the Zapad Group of Forces have taken more advantageous lines and positions. The Russian troops have inflicted damage on 3rd, 4th tank, 63rd, and 66th mechanised brigades near Pershetravnyovoye, Izyumskoye, Kupyansk (Kharkov region), Krasny Liman, and Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic). Two counter-attacks launched by AFU assault detachments have been repelled.

The enemy losses were up to 405 troops, three motor vehicles, one Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery system, one Anklav-N electronic warfare station as well as U.S.-made: one M113 armoured personnel carrier, one 155-mm M198 howitzer, three 105-mm M119 guns, and one AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery station. Six field ammunition depots have been eliminated.

As a result of active and decisive actions, the units of the Yug Group of Forces have liberated Zhelannoye Vtoroye (Donetsk People's Republic).

The Russian troops have inflicted damage on 23rd, 54th, 93rd mechanised, 56th mechanised, 10th mountain assault brigades and the 18th National Guard Brigade of the AFU and 18th National Guard Brigades close to Reznikovka, Zvanovka, Belaya Gora, and Maksimillyanovka (Donetsk People's Republic). Three counter-attacks by assault detachments of the AFU 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade, the 81st Airmobile Brigade, and the 112th Territorial Defence Brigade have been repelled.

The AFU losses were up to 755 Ukrainian troops, nine motor vehicles, one UK-made 155-mm FH70 howitzer, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and U.S.-made 155-mm M198, 155-mm M777 howitzers, and two 105-mm M119 guns.

The units of the Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depths of enemy defences. The Russian troops have inflicted damage on manpower and hardware of AFU 101st, 151st mechanised, 142nd infantry, 95th air assault brigades, the 112th Territorial Defence Brigade, and the 12th National Guard Brigade near Dimitrov, Druzhba, Grodovka, Kleban-Byk, and Gornyak (Donetsk People's Republic). Four counter-attacks of AFU 53rd, 154th mechanised, 68th jaeger, and 25th air assault brigades have been repelled.

The enemy losses were up to 490 troops, one Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, one U.S.-made HMMWV armoured fighting vehicle, three motor vehicles, one 152-mm D-20 gun, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

The units of the Vostok Group of Forces have captured more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of 72nd mechanised, 58th motorised infantry brigades of the AFU, and the 125th Territorial Defence Brigade near Dobrovolye, Zolotaya Niva (Donetsk People's Republic) and Levadnoye (Zaporozhye region).

The enemy losses were up to 110 troops, eight motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, and one French-made 155-mm Caesar self-propelled artillery system.

The units of the Dnepr Group of Forces have defeated units of the 39th Coastal Defence Brigade, the 124th Territorial Defence Brigade close to Sadovoye and Pridneprovskoye (Kherson region).

The enemy losses were up to 50 troops, two motor vehicles, and one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system. Two Anklav-N electronic warfare stations have been destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged one Israeli-made RADA RPS-42 multi-function radar as well as clusters of enemy manpower and military hardware in 146 areas.

Air defence facilities have shot down eight U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, three French-made HAMMER aerial guided bombs, and 55 fixed-wing UAVs.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 32,871 unmanned aerial vehicles, 580 anti-aircraft missile systems, 18,527 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,469 MLRS combat vehicles, 15,619 field artillery guns and mortars, and 26,942 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

The units of the Sever Group of Forces continues the offensive operation and engaged formations of 22nd, 41st 115th mechanised brigades, the 17th Tank Brigade, the 95th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, the 1st National Guard Brigade, the 36th Marine Brigade, as well as 103rd and 129th territorial defence brigades near Daryino, Lyubimovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novy Put, and Plekhovo.

Over the past 24 hours, the Group's units have repelled two enemy counter-attacks in the direction of Lyubimovka and Obukhovka, thwarted enemy attempts to attack in the direction of Kamyshevka and Plekhovo. As a result, the AFU losses were up to 50 troops killed and wounded, four armoured fighting vehicles and one motor vehicle. Five AFU servicemen surrendered.

With the support of Army Aviation and artillery, two AFU attempts to break through the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of Novy Put were foiled. The AFU losses were more than 30 troops killed and wounded, one tank, seven armoured fighting vehicles, one counterobstacle vehicle, and one armoured recovery vehicle. Twelve AFU servicemen surrendered.

Army Aviation and artillery have inflicted losses on manpower and hardware clusters of the 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, the 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades, the 1st National Guard Brigade, the 36th Marine Brigade, 103rd, 112th, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Kolmakov, Kubatkin, Kruglenkoye, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Melovy, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novy Put, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Tolsty Lug, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops have delivered strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas and reserves of the 21st, 41st, 47th, 115th mechanised brigades, the 36th Marine Brigade, 80th,95th air assault brigades, the 1st National Guard Brigade, 101st, 103rd territorial defence brigades near Belovody, Bondarevshchina, Belaya Beryoza, Belokopytovo, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Vodolagi, Katerinovka, Konotop, Miropolye, Mars, Mirlogi, Pavlovka, Obody, Pavlovka, Rechki, Stepanovka, Sumy, Frunzenka, Khoten, Shpil, and Yampol.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses were more than 400 troops, 16 armoured vehicles including one tank and 15 armoured fighting vehicles as well as five artillery guns including one French-made Caesar self-propelled artillery system, one Bogdana self-propelled artillery system, two motor vehicles, one electronic warfare station, one counterobstacle vehicle, and one armoured recovery vehicle. Seventeen AFU servicemen surrendered.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than 20,650 troops, 136 tanks, 66 infantry fighting vehicles, 98 armoured personnel carriers, 885 armoured fighting vehicles, 582 motor vehicles, 170 artillery guns, 33 MLRS launchers, including eight of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the U.S., nine SAM launchers, five transport-loading vehicles, 44 electronic warfare stations and nine counter-battery radars, three air defence radars, 22 engineering and other vehicles, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, and three armoured recovery vehicles.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
