A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 97 combat clashes. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively interrupt the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.

The hottest situation in the Kurakhiv direction, also the enemy is active in the Pokrovsky, Kupiansky and Lyman directions.

Russian zagarbniki caused 61 airstrikes on the territory of Ukraine, dropping 101 cab. In addition, 630 kamikaze drones were deployed to impress and carried out more than 3,000 shells on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

Four Russian attacks occurred in the Kharkiv direction. Defense forces repelled Russian attacks near Staritsa, Vovchansk and Tikhoy. Estimated Russian losses to the direction were 63 soldiers killed and wounded, the artsystem destroyed, 28 BPLAs and six vehicles units. Also Ukrainian defenders damaged 14 artillery systems and five cars.
In the direction of Kupyansky, Russian forces carried out offensive actions near Sinkivka, Novoselivka, Pi пany, Stelmakhivka and Lozova. Fourteen battles completed, two Russian attacks are still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction Russian zagarbniki stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops near Nevsky, Grekivka, Makiyivka, Novosadovoye and Torsky. At this time, ten combat clashes are completed, three are still continuing.
In the Sívers Наkomu direction Ukrainian defenders repelled three Russian offensive actions in the areas of Verkhnyokamiansky and Viimka. The confrontation is ongoing, the situation is under control.
In the direction of Kramators Краkomu, six battles near Kalinívka, Stupočkiv and Andriyivka. Currently, one Russian attack continues.
11 combat clashes took place in the Toretsky direction. The Russians stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Toretsk and Scherbinivka. Six encounters complete, five still going.
On the Pokrovsky direction, from the beginning of this day, the zagarbnik attacked 14 times in the areas of Nikolaivka, Selídovogo and Lisívka. Defense forces repelled 13 offensive actions, one confrontation is still ongoing.
In the Kurakhiv direction, Russian forces carried out offensive actions 25 times near Tsukuriny, Gostrogy, Georgievka, Antonivka, Konstantinivka and in the direction of Epiphany. Ukrainian defenders have stopped 14 attacks, 10 are still ongoing.
In the Orihivsky direction, the Russian occupiers tried four times unsuccessfully to advance to the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Robotiny, Maliy Shcherbaky and Kamiansky.
In other directions - without much change.

Defense Forces of Ukraine continue operations in the Kursk direction.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in the period from 28 September to 4 October, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out 29 group strikes by high-precision weapons, including a Kinzhal hypersonic air-launched ballistic missile and attack drones.

The strikes hit energy facilities that supported the Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, as well as the infrastructure of military airfields.

In addition, AFU arsenals, temporary deployment areas, concentration areas of AFU troops, nationalist formations, and foreign mercenaries were hit by the strikes.

Over the past week, the Sever Group of Forces has been eliminating the AFU formations in Kursk region.

Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and artillery strikes against concentration areas of personnel and military hardware of five mechanised brigades, one tank brigade, three air assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one marine brigade, and five territorial defence brigades have thwarted the enemy's attempts to launch counter-attacks and deploy reserves. In Volchansk and Liptsy directions, Russian troops hit units of an AFU motorised infantry brigade, an air assault brigade, a marine brigade, and two territorial defence brigades.

Over the past week, more than 3,050 troops, four tanks, 43 armoured fighting vehicles, including two U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and 77 motor vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been eliminated in the area of responsibility of the Sever Group of Forces. Twenty-eight field artillery guns and seven electronic warfare stations were eliminated.

The Zapad Group of Forces has improved their tactical position along the front line in the past seven days and has liberated Makeyevka (Lugansk People's Republic) and Vishnyovoye (Kharkov region). They inflicted losses on six mechanised brigades, one tank brigade, one assault brigade of the AFU, two territorial defence brigades, and one national guard brigade.

Eleven counter-attacks launched by AFU assault detachments were thwarted.

The enemy losses amounted to more than 2,880 troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, including three U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, 42 motor vehicles, as well as 37 field artillery guns, including sixteen 155-mm self-propelled artillery systems and howitzers supplied by NATO countries. In addition, 14 electronic warfare and counter-battery stations as well as 29 field ammunition depots were eliminated.

The Yug Group of Forces liberated Verkhnekamenskoye (Donetsk People's Republic). The Group delivered strikes at manpower and hardware of four mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, two infantry brigades, one mountain assault brigade, one airmobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one territorial defence brigade, and one national guard brigade.

Twenty counter-attacks launched by AFU assault detachments were thwarted.

The enemy sustained losses of up to 5,110 troops, two tanks, three armoured fighting vehicles, 44 motor vehicles, 47 field artillery guns, with 30 of them produced by Western countries. Thirteen ammunition depots were eliminated.

The Tsentr Group's decisive actions liberated the settlements of Nelepovka and Krutoy Yar (Donetsk People's Republic). The Group's strikes defeated units of five mechanised brigades, one infantry brigade, two jaeger brigades, one assault brigade, one airborne brigade, one air assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, two territorial defence brigades and two national guard brigades.

In addition, 48 counter-attacks launched by enemy assault detachments were repelled. During the week, the AFU units suffered losses of up to 4,210 troops, two tanks, 16 armoured fighting vehicles, 31 motor vehicles, and 31 field artillery guns in this direction.

The Vostok Group of Forces took more favourable lines and positions and liberated Ugledar (Donetsk People's Republic). Strikes were delivered at manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade, one motorised infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, three territorial defence brigades, and one national guard brigade.

Ten counter-attacks launched by AFU assault detachments were thwarted.

The enemy losses amounted to up to 890 Ukrainian troops, two tanks, four armoured fighting vehicles, 60 motor vehicles, 12 field artillery guns, and eight field ammunition depots.

The Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on one infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one marine brigade, and one coastal brigade, three territorial defence units and one national guard brigade.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 510 troops, two tanks, 42 motor vehicles, three field artillery guns, five electronic warfare and counter-battery stations, and 10 field ammunition depots.

Air defence systems have shot down seven U.S.-made ATACMS operational missiles, six French-made Hammer aerial bombs, 22 U.S.-made HIMARS projectiles, as well as 540 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles during the week.

Over the past week, 83 Ukrainian servicemen surrendered on the line of contact, with 44 of them during the mop-up operation in Ugledar (Donetsk People's Republic).

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 32,816 unmanned aerial vehicles, 580 anti-aircraft missile systems, 18,524 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,469 MLRS combat vehicles, 15,569 field artillery guns and mortars, and 26,915 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

The Sever Group of Forces continues the offensive operation and engaged formations of 22nd, 41st 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, 1st National Guard Brigade, 36th Marine Brigade, as well as 103rd and 129th territorial defence brigades near Daryino, Lyubimovka, Novy Put, Pokrovsky, and Plekhovo.

Over the past 24 hours, the Group's units have repelled two counter-attacks of the enemy in the direction of Lyubimovka, Olgovka, and Plekhovo.

As a result, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost up to 30 troops killed and wounded.

Moreover, with the support of Army Aviation and artillery fire, five AFU attempts to break through the border of the Russian Federation towards Novy Put were foiled.

The enemy sustained losses of more than 30 troops killed and wounded, one armoured fighting vehicle, and two motor vehicles.

Army Aviation and artillery strikes inflicted losses on manpower and hardware clusters of the 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th and 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, 36th Marine Brigade, 103rd, 112th, 116th, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Bogdanovka, Bondarevka, Daryino, Kositsa, Kolmakov, Knyazhy Pervy, Loknya, Lyubimovka, Lebedevka, Martynovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Pokrovsky, Pravda, Russkoye Porechnoye, Sverdlikovo, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops delivered strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas and reserves of the 21st, 41st, 47th, 115th mechanised brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, 101st, 103rd, 106th, 129th territorial defence brigades near Belovody, Bondarevshchina, Belaya Beryoza, Belokopytovo, Zhurovka, Katerinovka, Kislaya Dubina, Loknya, Miropolye, Mirlogi, Nikolayevka, Pavlovka, Petrovskoye, Obody, Pavlovka, Sukhodol, Sumy, Khoten, and Yunakovka.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 350 troops, six armoured fighting vehicles, as well as three artillery guns, including one French-made Caesar self-propelled artillery system, one U.S.-made M777 towed howitzer, three motor vehicles, three electronic warfare stations, and one counterobstacle vehicle.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost more than 20,200 troops, 135 tanks, 66 infantry fighting vehicles, 98 armoured personnel carriers, 870 armoured fighting vehicles, 580 motor vehicles, 165 artillery guns, 33 MLRS launchers, including eight of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, nine SAM launchers, five transport-loading vehicles, 43 electronic warfare stations and nine counter-battery radars, three air defence radars, 20 engineering and other vehicles, including 12 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, and two armoured recovery vehicles.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
