On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. As stated in the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian military does not strike at cities, but disable only the military infrastructure, so nothing threatens the civilian population.

Moody's downgraded Russia's rating from "B3" to "Ca". Big businessmen are calling for peace. Mikhail Fridman wrote a heartfelt letter to employees of one of his companies. Oleg Deripaska criticized the current economic situation in his telegram channel without tiptoeing round the subject. Oleg Tinkov demanded an end to the war. Roman Abramovich became a mediator in the negotiations at the request of Ukraine.

Russia's status as an energy superpower appeared headed toward collapse following its invasion of Ukraine, analysts say, as Europe seeks alternatives to its oil and natural gas and Western companies end financial and technological support for projects.

Thousands of people had been detained at protests in dozens of cities across Russia against the war in Ukraine. Police used electric shockers on protesters. Over 4,600 people in cities across Russia were detained at protests against Moscow's military operation in Ukraine, a monitor said, on the 11th day of the invasion. A police spokeswoman said 1,700 people were detained in Moscow after around 2,500 took part in an "unsanctioned protest", while 750 were detained at a smaller rally of around 1,500 people in the second largest city of Saint Petersburg, Russian news agencies reported. OVD-Info, which monitors detentions at opposition protests, put the figure of detainees in 65 towns and cities across Russia at 4,644 people. The latest detentions brought the total number of demonstrators held to more than 10,000 since February 24, when President Vladimir Putin ordered troops into Ukraine to carry out a "special operation".

The Russian tanks and missiles besieging Ukraine also are threatening the food supply and livelihoods of people in Europe, Africa and Asia who rely on the vast, fertile farmlands of the Black Sea region — known as the "breadbasket of the world." Ukrainian farmers have been forced to neglect their fields as millions flee, fight or try to stay alive. Ports are shut down that send wheat and other food staples worldwide to be made into bread, noodles and animal feed. And there are worries Russia, another agricultural powerhouse, could have its grain exports upended by Western sanctions.

If the war is prolonged, countries that rely on affordable wheat exports from Ukraine could face shortages starting in July. That could create food insecurity and throw more people into poverty in places like Egypt and Lebanon, where diets are dominated by government-subsidised bread. Ukraine supplies the EU with just under 60 percent of its corn and nearly half of a key component in the grains needed to feed livestock.

At Secretary Blinken's joint press availability with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Blinken said "We are looking actively now at the question of airplanes that Poland may provide to Ukraine and looking at how we might be able to backfill should Poland decided to use those – to supply those planes. I can’t speak to a timeline, but I can just tell you we’re looking at it very, very actively."

The Wall Street Journal reported that Poland could provide Ukraine with MiG-29 fighters and Su-25 attack aircraft in exchange for F-16 fighter jets from the United States. At the same time, it is noted that the proposed deal is under discussion between the United States and its partners in NATO. MiG-29 fighters have been in service with the Polish army since 1989. The first aircraft were purchased in the USSR, the subsequent ones Poland received from the Czech Republic and Germany. The latter handed over the aircraft to Poland for a symbolic sum of €1 when it refused to use these machines. Now fighters of 28 MiG-29 aircraft are in service with the 22nd tactical air base in Malbork and the 23rd base in Minsk-Mazovetsky.

Senator Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, said "Zelensky was very clear, He says, 'We don't need you to fight our fight. We don't need you to fly our planes or fly your planes into our war zone. We need the planes that we can fly ourselves and we have them on the border.'"

Retired four-star Admiral James Stavridis told Meet the Press "What we ought to do is give Ukrainians the ability to create a no-fly zone".

The press secretary of the government of the Polish republic Peter Muller said that no decisions had been made on the transfer of Polish military aircraft to Ukraine. “As for the transfer of aircraft, I can only repeat that at the moment no decisions have been made on this issue. There is a discussion about the spectrum of NATO actions. But this discussion is still ongoing. No decisions have been made,” he said.

Almost all combat-ready aviation of the Kiev regime has been destroyed, the Russian Defense Ministry notes. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, fighter aircraft and air defense of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down three more Ukrainian Su-27 fighters and three drones in the air.

The airfield of the Ukrainian Air Force in Vinnitsa was destroyed by a high-precision weapon of the RF Armed Forces. This was announced to journalists by the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Igor Konashenkov. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian missiles have completely destroyed an airport in central Ukraine. Zelenskyy said on social media that Russian rockets hit the airport in Vinnytsia. He said the Russian military is destroying the lives and infrastructure that the people of Ukraine have built up over generations. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba alleged that Russian forces attacked the Vinnytsia airport with eight cruise missiles.

Vinnytsia Airport is not civilian, it is a dual-purpose object, where the 456th separate mixed aviation brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is based. The satellite map shows An-26 aircraft, including those in camouflage and a Mi-8 helicopter.

Airfields are nearly impossible to close for more than a few hours, since craters in runways can be quickly filled. Blowing up hangars and radars is annoying but not decisive.

The armed forces of the Russian Federation in the course of a special operation destroyed almost all combat-ready aircraft of the Kiev regime. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov. "Fighter aviation and air defense of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down three more Ukrainian Su-27 fighters and three unmanned aerial vehicles in the air. In total, yesterday and today, the Ukrainian Air Force lost 11 combat aircraft and 2 helicopters," he said, adding, that almost all combat-ready aviation of the Kiev regime was destroyed.

The Russian Defence Ministry said it has reliable information that some Ukrainian fighter aircraft flew to Romania and other neighboring countries. Konashenkov said that the use of the airfield network of neighboring countries for basing Ukrainian military aviation with subsequent use against the Russian armed forces can be regarded as the involvement of these states in an armed conflict. "Practically all combat-ready aviation of the Kiev regime has been destroyed. At the same time, we are reliably aware of Ukrainian combat aircraft that have previously flown to Romania and other border countries. Please note that the use of the airfield network of these countries for basing Ukrainian military aviation with subsequent use forces, can be regarded as the involvement of these states in an armed conflict," Konashenkov said.

The Polish authorities have denied the information that planes fly from Polish airfields to Ukraine for combat purposes. This was announced at a press conference by the press secretary of the government of the republic Peter Muller. According to Müller, "information regarding Polish airfields is also emerging." "I want to emphasize that this is false information that planes are launched from the territory of Poland for combat purposes to the territory of Ukraine. I would like to resolutely refute this," he said.

The use of the airfield network of neighboring countries for basing Ukrainian military aviation with subsequent use against the Russian armed forces can be regarded as the involvement of these states in an armed conflict, said the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov.

Ukraine and Russia can, in the course of peace negotiations, reach a compromise on almost all issues, except for the status of Crimea and the republics of Dobnass. This statement was made by a member of the Ukrainian delegation, head of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Servant of the People party, David Arakhamia, in an interview with Fox News. "The only points on which it is almost impossible to reach agreement are Crimea, as well as the so-called republics, which, as Russia insists, we must recognize as independent. This is unacceptable for Ukrainian society... This is not about politics, but about Ukrainians who will never allow this. This is the main challenge, and, frankly, we still do not know how to overcome these obstacles".

Vladimir Putin awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation to the commander of the DPR Sparta battalion, Vladimir Zhoga, posthumously. A Ryazan paratrooper officer who died in the Donbass was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.

Minsk assured that not a single Belarusian soldier is on the territory of Ukraine. Assistant Minister of Defense - head of the main department of ideological work of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus Leonid Kasinsky said that at the moment "no mobilization measures are being carried out" in the republic. "We do not participate in the conflict that is taking place in Ukraine today. Not a single Belarusian soldier, not a single piece of equipment is on the territory of Ukraine and does not take part," the representative of the Belarusian Defense Ministry said.

Kasinsky informed that the armed forces were tasked with taking measures to ensure the safety of the citizens of Belarus, as well as ensuring the security of its borders. "The first is the strengthening of the air defense system. Naturally, conscripts who are now serving in the air force, air defense troops, are directly involved in this. But again, there is nothing so supernatural here. The purpose of these events is not poses no threat to our neighboring countries," the representative of the defense department assured. He clarified that this is being done in order to "exclude the possibility of penetration into the territory of the Republic of Belarus of any sabotage, reconnaissance groups, to exclude the supply of weapons and ammunition."

The proposed "Yachts for Ukraine" Act would permit authorities to seize any property held by Russian elites in the US that is valued above $5 million. That includes bank accounts, real estate, and the superyachts that have become synonymous with Russia's billionaire class. The bill, which is led by Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski of New Jersey and Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina, would also allow the US to sell the seized assets and use the cash to aid Ukraine. Funds from such sales could be used on post-conflict reconstruction in Ukraine, humanitarian support, weapons for Ukraine's armed forces, provisions for refugees, and technology goods.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the nationalists thwarted the second evacuation attempt from Mariupol. The second attempt to evacuate civilians from Mariupol was unsuccessful due to the fact that the Kyiv regime misinformed people about the transfer of the regime of silence. The headquarters stressed "the Ukrainian authorities, using Internet resources and television, are actively misinforming the residents of Mariupol about the postponement of the evacuation due to the alleged non-compliance by the Russian side with the promised silence regimes. This is a total deception and betrayal of their people”.

"In Mariupol, neo-Nazis of the territorial defense battalions once again use the tactics of terrorists in combat operations. Hiding behind civilians as a human shield, they place heavy weapons in apartment buildings, while Some residents are forcibly kept in their homes," the headquarters said.

The number of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine was expected to reach 1.5 million on March 6, as the Russian invasion entered its 11th day with “fierce” fighting taking place in many parts of the country. The United Nations refugee agency estimated that the number of the refugees could swell to 4 million by July. Since February 24, the Czech Republic had received 100,000 refugees from Ukraine on its territory. The number of Ukrainian refugees in the country has doubled over the past two days. Among them, women, children and the elderly predominate. More than 234,000 citizens of Ukraine entered Romania after February 24, more than 72,000 are currently in the country, and almost 3,000 of them have requested asylum in Romania. At 8 PM CET the number of #refugees who entered #Poland from #Ukraine surpassed 1,000,000.
