On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. As stated in the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian military does not strike at cities, but disable only the military infrastructure, so nothing threatens the civilian population.

Jen Psaki said: "The reason why the price of gas is going up is not because of steps the President has taken, they are because President Putin is invading Ukraine, and that is creating great deal instability in the global marketplace."

The impact of economic sanctions imposed against Russia by the West has already exceeded expectations, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. "We've had already a dramatic impact far beyond I think what anyone would have expected on Russia," Blinken said during remarks in Belgium. The suffering is likely to get worse before it gets better as long as the Ukraine crisis continues, Blinken added.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a video message has called the just concluded NATO summit "weak" amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. "A NATO summit took place today. It was a weak summit, a confused summit, a summit that shows that not everyone considers the fight for freedom in Europe the number one goal," Zelenskyy said. Zelenskyy accused the members of the military alliance of giving Russia "the green light to start shelling Ukrainian cities and villages," adding that NATO did nothing but provided Ukraine with 50 tons of diesel fuel.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba warned NATO partners: "You can think as much as you want about how to avoid a direct confrontation with Russia, but if you do not help us to stop it now, a direct confrontation will be inevitable because you will be next." Zelensky in late night address slammed NATO over ruling out no-fly zone. “This is the self-hypnosis of those who are weak, insecure inside, despite the fact they possess weapons many times stronger than we have".

Ukraine has retained a "significant majority" of its military aircraft available 9 days after Russian forces started the invasion of Ukraine, a US defense official said on March 4, as reported by Reuters. A titak if 14 wide-bodied aircraft landed near Ukraine’s border with a bristling array of Javelin antitank missiles, rocket launchers, guns and ammo. Ukraine's SAMs are still active and registering kills.

Ukrainian nationalist and neo-Nazi battle units are using civilians as human shields in an act of brutal banditry, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Friday during a phone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. "The Russian Defense Minister drew special attention of Mr. Guterres to the fact that nationalist and neo-Nazi formations, which also include foreign mercenaries, are hiding behind civilians, using them as a 'human shield.' There is factual evidence of how they set up heavy military equipment (tanks, MLRS, artillery and mortars) in residential areas of cities, acting like brutal bandits, ignoring the threats posed by this to civilians," the ministry said in a statement.

Reports of Russian higher commanders KIA are proven and numerous. The highest Russian officer KIA is a General-Mayor of Airborne Troops. According to reports, senior commanders are forced to move very close to fighting lines, as Russians cannot coordinate their actions. Russia has already used 95% of all its ground forces gathered for the invasion, and it makes almost all of Russia's active ground forces.

Russian Senator Lyudmila Narusova acknowledged huge losses of the Russian army: "Yesterday the conscripts, who were forced to sign a contract or signed for them, were withdrawn from the war zone in Ukraine. But from a company of a hundred men only four were left alive." Her late husband, St. Petersburg mayor Anatoly Sobchak, was Putin's boss and mentor. Russian casualties are likely much higher than the Kremlin expected, and Moscow's troops have thus far failed to make major advances in the east and on the capital Kyiv.

The units of the Russian Armed Forces continue their offensive on a broad front, said the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov. The settlements of Shandrigolovo, Aleksandrovka, Derilovo, Srednee, Lozovoe came under the control of the LPR troops, the Russian Defense Ministry said. In total, during the military operation in Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces hit 1,812 military targets, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, told reporters "It is not my competence to comment on issues of military art. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief receives information, including about such proposals. And it is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief who makes decisions on how, by what means to carry out the assigned tasks during this operation". This is how he commented on the appeal of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, to the president, in which the head of the region called for an order for a "quick, clear, high-quality" "capture" of Kyiv, Kharkov and other cities and to complete the military operation in one or two days.

Russia, conducting a military operation on Ukrainian territory, does not aim to divide Ukraine into parts, but only seeks to ensure guarantees for its own security. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov in an interview with Sky News Arabia. "After the 2014 coup d'état, Ukraine became subject to the influence of Nazi ideology. <...> We want to free it from this ideology. In addition, the presence of NATO infrastructure in Ukraine has increased, which directly threatens the security of Russia. <...> We do not put with the aim of dividing Ukrainian territory into parts, but we are striving to ensure guarantees of our own security," the spokesman said.

Western countries should not shake the air with empty statements and threats against Russia, but globally rethink what they have done and what a catastrophe they have brought the world to, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. According to her, the West exposed its "concentrated malice" against Russia, bringing down sanctions on it because of the situation in Ukraine. Western countries, by their actions around Ukraine, are implementing part of a large-scale plan to destroy Russia, she believes.

Western and Ukrainian diplomats accused Russia of recklessly endangering global safety after a fire broke out at a training facility adjacent to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant – charges that Moscow dismissed as “lies”. At a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting, Kyiv’s envoy Sergiy Kyslytsya said Moscow committed “nuclear terrorism” when its forces captured Zaporizhzhia, calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine an attack on “humanity”. Moscow’s envoy to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, however, dismissed reports that Russian troops attacked the Zaporizhzhia plant as “lies” and “disinformation”.

The third round of negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine may be on March 5 or 6, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said. Russia came to talks with questions it has formulated answers to long ago, said Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who believes this hinders talks. The Ukrainian president was speaking to a group of local and international journalists in Kyiv on March 3 as Ukrainian and Russian delegations were about to meet on the border with Belarus for a second round of discussions. As the Russian military invasion of Ukraine enters its eighth day, Zelenskiy spoke in favor of talks, although, in his words, Ukrainian sovereignty simply cannot be a starting point.

The Ambassador of Ukraine in Berlin called on Germany to provide his country with Patriot air defense systems. NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg says the alliance's members agree that its planes should not fly in Ukraine's airspace and that its troops should not be present on the ground in Ukraine during its conflict with Russia, despite pleas from Kyiv to enforce a no-fly zone over the country. Stoltenberg admitted that Russia is likely to intensify its attack on Ukraine, which began on February 24, with the coming days "likely to be worse."

Stoltenberg says the alliance's members agree that its planes should not fly in Ukraine's airspace and that its troops should not be present on the ground in Ukraine. "NATO is not part of the conflict," Stoltenberg said ahead of the meeting. "We do not seek war, conflict with Russia. At the same time, we need to make sure there is no misunderstanding about our commitment to protect all allies."

The UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting for March 4 following a fire at a nuclear power plant that Russian forces have seized in northeastern Ukraine that left atomic experts scrambling to monitor for radiation leaks. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ukraine's nuclear agency, and nuclear officials from around the world said no leak had been detected from the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant after responders finally put out the fire that burned out of control overnight after nearby shelling by invading Russian forces. The nuclear plant at Zaporizhzhya, on the banks of a reservoir on the Dnieper River, is the largest in Europe and generates more than one-fifth of Ukraine's domestic electricity. A protocol to the Geneva Convention restricts military attacks on nuclear facilities.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Russian soldiers of targeting civilians with bombs and committing rape in Ukrainian cities, without giving evidence for that claim.

The number of refugees who arrived in Poland from Ukraine exceeded 700,000. More than 170,000 Ukrainians entered Romania after the beginning of the aggravation of the conflict. More than 33,000 refugees have been registered in the Czech Republic since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine. The number of Donbas residents evacuated to Russia exceeded 166,000.
