A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that with Ukraine successfully denying Russia's ability to establish control of the air space over Ukraine, Russia has been restricted in its ability to exploit its substantial force of fast jet and bomber aircraft. To overcome this failing, Russia has become heavily dependent on the prolific use of relatively low-cost Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). These have been used to suppress Ukrainian air defences and attack targets, both military and civilian, beyond the range of its artillery.

On 21 June 2024, the Ukrainian Navy and Security Service of Ukraine reported they had struck Russian 726th Air Defence Training Centre at Yeysk airfield, Russia. This base is one of at least five from which Russia launches its UAV attacks against Ukraine. This strike reportedly destroyed 120 UAVs, of differing types, and wounded 9 personnel.

It is highly likely that, in the short term, these strikes will cause some disruption to Russia's ability to use UAVs to strike targets deep within Ukrainian territory from these locations. There is a realistic possibility that Russia will disperse its UAV operations to less vulnerable bases and hence the impact will likely be temporary. It is likely that Ukraine will exploit its recent successes and continue with its counter-UAV campaign to the detriment of Russia.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Ukrainian military continues to decisively give an offence to the enemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him an effective fire effect, exhausting across the entire frontline.

Since the beginning of the day, 140 combat clashes have taken place.

Zagarbniki continue to press on the combat orders of Ukrainian units near Vozdvizhenko, Novooleksandrivka, Evgenivka, Progresu, Novoselivka the First and Umansky. Five assault actions near Georgíivka, Konstantinívka and Paraskovívka were completed without success for the opponent. At the same time, the activity of the Russian forces near Krasnogorivka is maintained, where four attacks of the Russian aggressor are repelled, and two more clashes continue. The situation is intense. The Defense Forces are taking measures to stabilize the situation.
In the Vremívs намагаkomu direction, Russia is trying to infiltrate the front edge of the defense of Ukrainian units in the area of Vodyany. The Russian actions are actively supported by artillery. The Ukrainian military is making maximum effort to exhaust the Russian occupiers and inflict significant losses to them.
In the orihiv and pridniprovsky direction, all efforts of the zagarbnytskyi troops to dilute Ukrainian units from occupied positions have failed.
In other directions, the situation is without significant changes.
