Russo-Ukraine War - 22 June 2024 - Day 850

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Konstantin Malofeyev, the owner of the Russian nationalist TV channel Tsargrad is the sponsor of a nationalist student movement 'The Fraternity of the Academics'. This organization has cells in various Russian universities and adheres to a militantly imperialist outlook. The Fraternity believes that the 21st century could become a golden century of Russian culture with Russian ideological dominance on a global scale.

The Fraternity has organised military training and some members of the Fraternity have gone to fight in Ukraine (the movement is totally hostile to Ukrainian statehood).

The existence of this movement makes clear that there is a constituency in Russia for a more militant approach towards both the war on Ukraine and the West. This will likely have an impact on the generational turnover that is likely to take place in the Russian administrative elites over the rest of this decade.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Ukrainian military continues to decisively give an offence to the enemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him an effective fire effect, exhausting across the entire frontline.

Since the beginning of the day, there have been 133 combat clashes.

During the day, aviation, missile troops and artillery of the Defense Forces hit 17 personnel concentration areas, Russian control point, two PPOs, four ammunition warehouses, a REB station and one RLS.

Russian invaders launched five missiles using 20 rockets and 35 aviation strikes using 68 CABs on the territory of Ukraine, also launched 544 kamikaze drones. Along with that, Russia has fired more than 3,200 shelling on positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements with barrel and jet artillery, mortars, firearms and armaments of fighting vehicles.

In the Kharkiv direction, the occupiers throughout the day supported by aviation attacked near vovčans атаka. Defense Forces units have successfully repelled two Russian attacks, with another confrontation currently underway. According to preliminary information, since the beginning of the day, of Russian losses, 64 occupants have been killed and wounded, two artillery systems and six vehicles have been destroyed. 35 personnel shelters and one place of ammunition storage were affected.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces made 15 attempts to push Ukrainian units from occupied positions in the areas of settlements of Stelmakhivka, Sinkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Pieščnna, Andriyivka and Myasožarivka. 12 Russian attacks were successfully repelled. A tense situation remains near Stelmahivka, where three combat clashes continue.
In the Lyman direction Russian zagarbniki eight times tried to advance in the areas of Nevsky, terniv and novosadovogo. Defenders of Ukraine repelled all Russian attacks.
In the Sívers комуkomu direction, the setting of significant changes has not been experienced. Since the beginning of the day, the Russian occupiers have carried out ten assault actions in the areas of Verkhnyokamensky, Rozdolivka, Spirnogo and Viimka. Nine Russian attacks ended unsuccessfully, one battle is ongoing. The situation is under the control of Defense Forces units.
Four Russian attempts to approach Ukrainian positions near Grigorivka, Time Jar and Ivanivsky in the Kramatorsky direction failed. The battle is ongoing near Klishchievka.
The situation is tense in the Toretsky direction. Since the beginning of the day, the number of attempts of Russian occupiers to infiltrate Ukrainian defense positions has increased to 15. Supported by aviation, Russian forces attacked near Toretsk, Northern and New York. 11 assault actions of the Defense Forces units repelled, four confrontations are still ongoing. Ukrainian soldiers are making maximum effort to curb the Russian activity and its exhaustion.
The high intensity of combat is maintained in the Pokrovsky direction. The number of confrontations has increased to 44. With the support of all available means of fire effect (aviation, artillery, armaments of fighting vehicles, strike BPLA, FPV-drones and firearms) the garbniki continue to pressure on the fighting order of defenders of Ukraine near Oleksandropol, Novooleksandrivka, Vozdvizhenka, Evgenivka, Sokola, Novoselivka the First, Novopokrovska and Karlivka. Ukrainian warriors have been defeated 32 Russian attacks, 12 combat clashes are still continuing.
The previous Russian losses amounted to 319 invaders killed and wounded. One tank, two combat armored vehicles, a cannon and a car were destroyed. The losses are in the making.
In the Kurakhiv direction from the beginning of the day, 15 boêzítknen нен took place. The Russian activity near Nevelsky, Krasnogorivka, Georgiyivka and Paraskoviyivka is preserved. 11 Russian attacks repelled, fighting continues.
In the direction of the pridniprovsk, six Russian assault actions did not have success. A loss of positions is not allowed.
In other directions, the situation remained without significant changes.

Ukrainian defenders confidently suppress the pressure of Russian occupation troops. Separately, the warriors of the 92nd OSHBR named after Koshovogo Ottaman Ivan Sirk should be noted, who bravely hold their positions, skillfully repel Russian attacks, effectively apply the tools of fire on live force and technique, causing the Russian occupiers tangible losses.
