A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the day, there have been 96 combat clashes, the enemy launched one missile strike using one missile, 63 airstrikes using 88 CABs, more than 500 kamikaze drones strikes and over 3.5,000 shells of positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements using different types of weapons.

Six combat clashes occurred in the Kharkiv direction. Five attacks of Russian occupiers in the areas of Deep, Pacific and Vovchansk were repelled. Another fight is going on near Vovchansk. The situation is under control. Estimated losses of Russian troops so far have been 117 soldiers killed and wounded, five artillery systems, a combat armored vehicle, nine automobile units, one special equipment unit, and seven BPLAs have been destroyed. Eight artillery systems, eight units of automobile and one unit of special equipment were damaged.

In the Kupians виkomu direction, the Russian opponent once tried to push Ukrainian units out of occupied positions near synkivka.
14 times Russian forces attacked in the Lyman direction, tried to advance in the direction of settlements of Makiyivka, Nevske, Terni and Novosergiyivka. The Russian opponent did not succeed, the loss of Ukrainian positions is not allowed.
During the day, Ukrainian defenders repelled six Russian assault actions in the areas of Verkhnyokamiansky and Spirny.
Two combat clashes took place in the Kramatorsky direction. The activity of the Russian occupiers showed in the area of Ivanivsky and Andriyivka, but all Russian attempts to improve their position were unsuccessful.
The Russian aggressor tried to infiltrate Ukrainian defense 15 times in the Toretsky direction. Since the beginning of the day, the Russian occupiers in the settlements of Northern, Toretsk, New York and Zalizne have received a harsh cut off from Ukrainian defenders 13 times. Two attacks are still going on.
Intensely Russian attacks of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. Here, during the day, the Russian aggressor committed 27 assault and offensive actions. The largest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the area of Novooleksandrivka, Veselogo, Sergiyivka, Yasnobrodivka and Kalinovoye. In total, 17 attacks in the direction of Ukrainian defenders have already repelled, another 10 ammunition - continue. The situation is complicated, but controlled by the Defense Forces. Ukrainian soldiers are making efforts to prevent the advancement of the Russian opponent into the depths of Ukrainian territory. According to the information available at this time, today the loss of the Russian aggressor in this direction was 248 people killed and injured. Three tanks, two artillery systems, six vehicles and six armored vehicles, one special equipment unit were destroyed. In addition, five tanks, three cars, four BBM and one enemy cannon were damaged.
In the Kurakhiv direction at this time of the day, there are 14 combat clashes. Zagarbniks remain high activity, trying to advance in the areas of settlements of Krasnogorivka and Georgiyivka. Defense Forces units repelled 10 Russian attacks, four attacks are still ongoing.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the units of the Sever Group of Forces have defeated manpower and hardware of 42nd mechanised, 92nd assault, 71st infantry brigades of the AFU, the 36th Marine Brigade and the 125th Territorial Defence Brigade close to Liptsy, Tikhoye, Petrovka, Bayrak, and Volchansk (Kharkov region).

Two counterattacks by formations of the 92nd Assault Brigade and the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU have been repelled.

The enemy losses were up to 165 troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, two pickup trucks, one U.S.-made 155mm M777 howitzer, four 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and two ammunition depots.

The units of the Zapad Group of Forces have improved their position along the front line and also defeated formations of 30th, 44th, 67th, 116th mechanised brigades of the AFU, the 12th Azov Special Operations Brigade, the 110th Territorial Defence Brigade, and the 1st National Guard Brigade close to Sinkovka, Tabayevka (Kharkov region), Makeyevka, Nevskoye, Stelmakhovka (Lugansk People's Republic), and Krasny Liman (Donetsk People's Republic).

Russian troops have repelled an attack by an assault detachment of the 241st Territorial Defence Brigade.

The AFU losses were up to 570 servicemen, one tank, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, four motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, two 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system launchers, and one U.K.-made 105-mm L-119 howitzer.

In addition, one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery warfare radar station has been destroyed.

The units of the Yug Group of Forces have occupied more favourable lines and positions and defeated AFU 28th, 54th mechanised, 79th, 80th air assault and 46th airmobile brigades near Stupochki, Katerinovka, Maximilyanovka, and Seversk (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses were up to 540 servicemen, four armoured fighting vehicles, and five motor vehicles.

In the course of counter-battery warfare, one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, three 152-mm D-20 guns, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, two UK-made 105-mm L-119 guns, one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun have been destroyed.

In addition, one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar station and Anklav-N electronic warfare station have been neutralised.

The units of the Tsentr Group of Forces have liberated Lozovatskoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

In addition, formations of 32nd, 53rd, 151st mechanised, 1st air assault, 59th motorised Infantry, and 68th infantry brigades of the AFU have been defeated near Toretsk, Ivanovka, Ukrainsk, Novgorodskoye, Shcherbinovka, and Novosyolovka Pervaya (Donetsk People's Republic).

Russian troops have repelled three counterattacks by assault detachments of 31st, 151st mechanised, and 95th air assault brigades of the AFU.

The enemy losses were up to 425 troops, one tank, two armoured personnel carriers, including one U.S.-made M113 APC, five motor vehicles, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

The units of the Vostok Group of Forces have improved their position along the front line and defeated manpower and hardware of 123rd, 128th, and 129th territorial defence brigades close to Neskuchnoye, Vremyevka, and Velikaya Novosyolka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The enemy losses were up to 125 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, nine motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 gun, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar.

The units of the Dnepr Group of Forces have defeated formations of 65th mechanised, 128th mountain assault, 141st infantry brigades of the AFU and the 35th Marine Brigade near Nesteryanka, Rabotino (Zaporozhye region), Tyaginka and Poniatovka (Kherson region).

The enemy losses were up to 85 troops, four motor vehicles, one -N electronic warfare station, and one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar station.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have destroyed two electronic warfare stations, one aerial weapons depot, and one ammunition depot, as well as defeated AFU manpower and military hardware concentration areas in 124 areas.

Air defence facilities have shot down 10 U.S.-made HIMARS projectiles and 81 unmanned aerial vehicles, including 37 out of the special military operation zone.

In total, 630 airplanes, 278 helicopters, 28,545 unmanned aerial vehicles, 556 air defence missile systems, 16,698 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,390 fighting vehicles equipped with MLRS, 12,446 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 24,115 special military motor vehicles have been destroyed during the special military operation.
