A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Russia continues offensive operations on several areas of the front line. It is likely that the Avdiivka-Pokrovsk sector in Donetsk Oblast remains the Russian main effort and consequently has seen the highest operational tempo by Russian forces over the last month. Russian forces have continued to gain territory to the north and west of the town of Ocheretyne, expanding its salient towards the town of Pokrovsk.

Also in the Avdiivka-Pokrovsk sector, Russia has made minor advances into the town of Niu-York, a heavily fortified area of the front line and the last remaining point of the pre-2022 line of contact that existed between Ukrainian forces and Russian-led Separatist Forces.

Near the Donetsk Oblast town of Chasiv Yar, there have been no significant changes in territorial control. It has been reported that major Russian infantry assaults have stopped over the past few days and that Russian forces are largely operating in dispersed small, dismounted squads. Russian forces in this area are likely taking a tactical pause while conducting probing attacks and reconnaissance activity.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since the beginning of the day, there have been 126 combat clashes on the front, the enemy made two rockets (14 rockets), 54 aviation strikes (69 KAB) and 531 kamikaze drones strikes, made 3,179 shells on the positions of Ukrainian troops.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian terrorists five times stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the areas of Vovchansk and Glybokoye. They did not have any success.
Eleven times the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions in the Kupyansky direction. At this time, seven battles continue in the areas of glushkivka, stelmahivka and pi Гany.
In the Lyman direction a day Russian troops seven times stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders. In the areas of settlements, Nevske and Makiyivka, five attacks have been repelled, two are ongoing.
In the Sívers женняkomu direction, Ukrainian troops repelled eight attempts of the enemy to improve the tactical position near Verkhnyokamiansky, Spirny and Viiyimka. Russian forces were not successful. Took a loss and walked away.

In the Toretsky direction, Russian forces have stormed five times today in the areas of the Iron, Northern and New York. Continuing combat in three locations.
Intense Russian attacks of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. During the day, in total, carried out 47 assault and offensive actions. The largest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the areas of Novooleksandrivka, Progresa and Novoselivka the First. Four confrontations in the direction are still ongoing. According to preliminary calculations, today Ukrainian warriors eliminated 87 and wounded 127 Russian invaders. Destroyed two armored vehicles "Tiger", two armored transporters and two barrageous ammunition "Lancet". Three artsistemi zagarbnikív are also defiled.
In the Kurakhiv direction at this time of the day, there are 11 combat clashes. Russian forces unsuccessfully tried to advance in the settlements of Krasnogorivka, Georgievka, Paraskovievka and Konstantinivka.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Sever Group of Forces hit manpower and hardware of AFU 42nd mechanised, 127th territorial defence, and 13th national guard brigades close to Volchansk, Staritsa, Malye Prohody, and Liptsy (Kharkov region).

Five attacks launched by assault detachments of AFU 92nd assault and 36th marines brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 185 Ukrainian troops, two pickup trucks, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one Plastun electronic reconnaissance station.

The Zapad Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line, hit AFU 44th, 54th, 60th, 115th, 116th mechanised, 103rd, 110th territorial defence brigades near Peschanoye, Petropavlovka, Berestovoye (Kharkov region), Torskoye, Krasny Liman (Donetsk People's Republic) and Chervonaya Dibrova (Lugansk People's Republic).

Two counter-attacks of AFU 66th and 67th mechanised brigades' assault groups were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 540 Ukrainian troops, one tank, one armoured fighting vehicle, six motor vehicles, one UK-made 155-mm Braveheart self-propelled artillery system, two 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, one Bukovel-AD electronic warfare station, and one ammunition depot.

The Yug Group of Forces continued to take more advantageous lines. Units of AFU 22nd, 24th, 30th, 72nd mechanised, 56th mechanised infantry, 81st airmobile, 79th and 80th air assault brigades were hit near Grigorovka, Krasnogorovka, Zalyznyanskoye, Konstantinovka, Chasov Yar, and Raygorodok (Donetsk People's Republic).

Two counter-attacks launched by units of the AFU 5th Assault Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 640 Ukrainian troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, and 18 motor vehicles.

In the course of the counter-battery warfare, one UK-made 155-mm Braveheart self-propelled artillery system, U.S.-made 155-mm M198 and M777 howitzers, one 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, two 152-mm D-20 howitzers, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and two UK-made 105-mm L-119 howitzers.

One AFU electronic warfare station and five field ammunition depots were destroyed.

The Tsentr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and hit units of AFU 32nd, 41st, 47th mechanised brigades close to Toretsk, Novgorodskoye, Rozovka, Progress, and Novosyolovka Pervaya (Donetsk People's Republic).

Eight counter-attacks launched by units of AFU 31st, 151st mechanised, 95th air assault brigades, and the Lyut Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 280 Ukrainian troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, five motor vehicles, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and two 100-mm Rapira anti-tank guns.

The Vostok Group of Forces captured more advantageous lines, inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of AFU 72nd mechanised, 120th, 129th territorial defence, and 21st national guard brigades near Vremevka, Makarovka, Storozhevoye, Vodyanoye, Razliv, and Oktyabr (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 110 Ukrainian troops, four motor vehicles, one UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzer, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and two Nota electronic warfare stations.

The Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on units of AFU 141st infantry, 128th mountain assault, 106th, and 108th territorial defence brigades near Kamenskoye, Belogorye, Mirnoye, and Pyatikhatki (Zaporozhye region).

The AFU losses were up to 140 Ukrainian troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, six motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm Giatsint-B gun, and one 152-mm D-20 howitzer.

One Nota electronic warfare station, one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar station, and one ammunition depot were eliminated.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged two launchers and one AN/MPQ-65 radar station of the U.S.-made Patriot SAM system, and clusters of enemy manpower and military hardware in 113 areas.

Russian air defence systems have shot down two U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, four U.S.-made HIMARS projectiles, and 74 unmanned aerial vehicles, to include 27 ones over the territory of the Russian Federation.

In total, 630 airplanes and 277 helicopters, 27,915 unmanned aerial vehicles, 554 air defence missile systems, 16,620 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,379 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 12,120 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 23,870 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.
