A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that so far, there have been 119 combat clashes. The hottest today remained the situation in the Pokrovsky direction, also Russian forces active in the Lyman and Toretsky directions.

During the day, Russian forces launched six missiles (with the use of 12 missiles) and 47 aviation strikes (measures, in particular, 63 KABs), used 422 kamikaze drones to impress. Made 2797 shelling at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces attacked five times in the vicinity of globokoye and lipcív. Three assault actions of the Russian aggressor successfully repelled Ukrainian defenders. The fight is ongoing in two locations in the area of Glibokoye. The situation is under control.
In the Kupians ційkomu direction, Russian forces tried to advance to Ukrainian positions near synkivka five times a day. Four Russian attacks have already been successfully repelled by the Defense Forces. The battle goes on.
In the Lyman direction today, Russia is quite active - attacked 21 times in the areas of Nevsky, Serebryans ківkogo Forest, Grekivka, Makíivka and Terniv. Two clashes are still being sharpened, all others - Ukrainian warriors have stopped. The losses of Russian occupiers are being specified.
In the Sívers разkomu direction, Russian forces tried to break through Ukrainian defense seven times in the areas of Bílogorívka, Spirnogo and Viímka. Never been successful. The situation is under control.
In the Kramatorsky direction, the activity of the Russian enemy was limited to six combat clashes. Four attacks in the areas of Ivanívs Іkogo, Klíš Кíivka and Chasovoye Yar have been zaklinulis тири. Zagarbniki suffered losses and withdrew. The situation is tense - the fight is ongoing in two locations near Kalinívka.
Russian forces showed the greatest activity today in the Pokrovsky direction. In total, since the beginning of the day, the Russian occupiers 38 times tried to infiltrate Ukrainian defense in the areas of Novoselivka the First, Progresa, Evgenivka, Kalinovoye, Novooleksandrivka, Yasnobrodivka, Vozdvizhenka and Netaylovoye. At the moment, 25 Russian attacks have been repelled, 13 fighting continue. Ukrainian defenders are taking measures to stabilize the situation and prevent the advancement of the Russian enemy deep into the Ukrainian territory.
The Russian occupiers are concentrating efforts to advance towards novooleksandrívka and novoselívka the first. Suffering significant losses - according to preliminary information, today Ukrainian soldiers damaged 331 occupiers in the Pokrovsky direction, 123 of them - irrevocably. Destroyed four Russian cars and two cannons, in particular, the Russian SAU 2C19 "Msta-C". Five more different cannons and tank zagarbnikív are significantly damaged.
In the kurakhiv and vremívs Вреkomu directions Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 7 times. The greatest activity was shown in the area of konstantinívki. Fights are still ongoing in two locations.
Twice the Russian occupiers unsuccessfully stormed Ukrainian positions in the oríhiv direction, in the area of small tokmačka.
In the Pridniprovsky direction, the situation has not changed significantly, loss of positions and territories is not allowed. Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled five attacks of Russian invaders on the left bank of the Dnieper.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that from 29 June to 5 July 2024, the Russian Armed Forces have carried out 23 group strikes by high-precision weapons and strike unmanned aerial vehicles, as a result of which the following were hit: enemy airfields, energy facilities that support the work of Ukraine's military-industrial complex enterprises, fuel depots for military equipment, assembly facilities for strike UAVs and uncrewed surface vehicles, as well as locations for storing and preparing for combat use of missile weapons.

Over the past week, units of the Sever Group of Forces have improved the situation along the front line and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of three AFU brigades, one marine and two territorial defence brigades.

In addition, five counter-attacks of the AFU assault groups were repelled.

The enemy losses were up to 1,595 troops, four tanks, three armoured fighting vehicles, 30 motor vehicles, three electronic warfare stations, as well as 31 field artillery guns, including 12 large-calibre howitzers of various U.S.-made modifications.

The Zapad Group of Forces' units liberated Stepovaya Novosyolovka (Kharkov region) as a result of successful actions, improved the tactical situation, and hit units of AFU three mechanised, one assault, one airmobile, and two territorial defence brigades.

In addition, 11 counter-attacks of enemy assault groups have been repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 3,580 Ukrainian troops, one tank, seven armoured fighting vehicles, 29 motor vehicles, four Grad MLRS combat vehicles, and 27 field artillery guns, including ten Western-made artillery guns.

In addition, 20 ammunition depots were destroyed.

The Yug Group of Forces' units liberated Spornoye and Noviy district of Chasov Yar (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of two AFU mechanised brigades and two air assault brigades.

Eighteen attacks launched by the enemy's assault detachments were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 3,845 Ukrainian troops, four tanks, 19 armoured fighting vehicles, including three U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, 65 motor vehicles, and 53 field artillery howitzers.

Moreover, eight electronic warfare stations and 35 AFU field ammunition depots were destroyed.

As a result of active actions, units of the Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Schumy, Novoaleksandrovka, and Novopokorskoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on units of three AFU mechanised brigades and two infantry formations, as well as two territorial defence brigades.

Thirty eight enemy counter-attacks were repelled over the week.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 2,970 Ukrainian troops, five tanks, 12 armoured fighting vehicles, including two U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 30 motor vehicles, and 32 field artillery howitzers.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two AFU brigades, two territorial defence formations, and one National Guard Brigade.

Eleven AFU counter-attacks were repelled over the week.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 900 Ukrainian troops, four armoured fighting vehicles, 43 motor vehicles, 22 field artillery howitzers, including 14 supplied by NATO countries.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on units of one AFU Mountain Assault Brigade and four territorial defence brigades.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 635 Ukrainian troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, 36 motor vehicles, 24 field artillery howitzers, including 13 U.S.-made M777 howitzers. Moreover, seven electronic warfare stations and three AFU ammunition depots were destroyed.

Air defence units shot down two MiG-29 and one Su-27 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force, five U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, five Neptune-MD long-range guided missiles, 14 UK-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles, seven French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, one U.S.-made HARM anti-radiation missile, 42 U.S.-made HIMARS and Czech-made Vampire MLRS projectiles, and 451 unmanned aerial vehicles.

In addition, five Su-27 aircraft and one Mi-24 helicopter were destroyed on the base airfields, as well as two Su-27 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force were damaged.

Units of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed three uncrewed surface vehicles of the Ukrainian Navy over the week.

Over the past week, 32 Ukrainian servicemen have surrendered on the line of contact.

In total, 626 airplanes and 277 helicopters, 27,228 unmanned aerial vehicles, 537 air defence missile systems, 16,506 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,364 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 11,386 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 23,345 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.

Ukraine has regained ground east of the settlement of Terny, where Russia has been attacking and making incremental advances in recent months. Russia has taken control of most of the 'Kanal' district on the east side of the canal in Chasiv Yar, with the remainder of the district contested. Russia has initiated an advance west of Horlivka towards Toretsk. Positions in this sector of the front are one of only two that have been static since February 2022. Russian forces have now entered Pivnichne. West of Avdiivka, Russian advances continue. Near Pervomaiske, Russian forces have nearly taken control of the east side of the reservoirs. Further north, they have continued assaults, expanding the contested space. In Vovchansk heavy fighting continues. Ukraine has secured its positions along the river and regained ground in the east of the city.
