A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that the area around the towns of Pavlivka and Vuhledar in south-central Donetsk Oblast has been the scene of intense combat over the last two weeks, though little territory has changed hands.

Both Russia and Ukraine have significant forces committed to this sector, with Russian Naval Infantry having suffered heavy casualties.

This area remains heavily contested, likely partially because Russia assesses the area has potential as a launch point for a future major advance north to capture the remainder of Ukrainian-held Donetsk Oblast. However, Russia is unlikely to be able to concentrate sufficient quality forces to achieve an operational breakthrough.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia continues armed aggression against Ukraine, does not stop striking civilian infrastructure objects. Focuses efforts on deterring the actions of units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The transfer of Russian personnel and military equipment to equip units that have suffered losses continues. Russian forces operating in the temporarily occupied and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are expected to strengthen due to the transfer of individual units from the territory of the Republic of Belarus after they acquire combat capabilities.

Russian forces launched 4 rocket attacks on civilian objects in the settlements of Rozumivka in the Zaporizhzhia oblast and Musiivka in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Fired about 10 MLRS attacks. There is still a threat of Russian forces launching missile strikes against critical infrastructure facilities deep within the territory of Ukraine.

In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the situation has not changed significantly, and no signs of the formation of offensive groups of the occupiers have been detected.

The Republic of Belarus continues to support the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, provides its territory and airspace for launching missile and air strikes. The units of the Belarusian special operations forces, which are part of the regional grouping of the troops of the so-called union state of the Russian Federation and the republic of belarus, are involved in strengthening the section of the state border.

In the Siverskyi region, in the border areas of the Bryansk and Kursk regions, Russian units continue to perform the task of covering the section of the russian-Ukrainian border, conducting demonstration and provocative actions. A mortar attack was carried out near Yanzhulivka, Chernihiv oblast.
In the Slobozhanskyi direction, the Russian occupiers shelled the areas of Kozacha Lopan, Strilecha, Izbytske, Ohirtseve, Bochkove, Budarky, Chuhunivka and Ambarne settlements of Kharkiv oblast with mortars and rocket artillery.
Russia is defending in the Kupyansk direction. Fired from the entire range of artillery in the Kupyansk, Kurylivka, Tabaivka, Krokhmalne, and Berestove areas in the Kharkiv oblast.
In the Lyman direction, Russia is concentrating its main efforts on conducting offensive operations. Areas of Makiivka and Nevske settlements in Luhansk oblast and Yampolivka and Torske in Donetsk oblast were hit by artillery.
In the Bakhmut and Avdiivka areas, Russian forces continue to focus their main efforts on conducting offensive operations. It carried out shelling from tanks, mortars, barrel and rocket artillery on the areas of the settlements of Spirne, Yakovlivka, Bakhmutske, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Kurdyumivka, Avdiivka, Vodyane, Pervomaiske, Krasnohorivka, Maryinka and Novomykhailivka of the Donetsk oblast.
In the direction of Novopavlivka, Russian forces shelled the positions of the Defence Forces and the areas of the settlements of Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Zolota Nyva and Neskuchne of the Donetsk oblast with artillery of various types.
Russia is on the defensive in the Zaporizhzhia direction. Fired artillery of various calibers in the areas of the settlements of Vremivka, Novosilka, Novopil, Poltavka, Malynivka, Chervone, Zaliznychne, Dorozhnyanka, Novodanylivka, and Kamianske of the Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Russia is conducting a positional defense in the Kryvyi Rih and Kherson directions. Artillery shelling of units of Ukrainian troops and settlements on the right bank of the Dnipro River, in particular the city of Kherson, does not stop.

The Russian occupiers continue to suffer losses. Local hospitals of Shchastya district of Luhansk oblast are overloaded due to the large number of wounded invaders. Russia forced to medically evacuate wounded servicemen to Luhansk.

It was confirmed that an Russian object was damaged in the area of the settlement of Svatove on November 25 of this year. About 70 Russian servicemen were there. The number of wounded and dead occupiers is being clarified.
Units of Ukrainian missile troops and artillery struck 3 areas of concentration of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a large ammunition depot was destroyed in the city of Dnipro, where more than a hundred shells for HIMARS rocket systems and over seven thousand ammunition for other foreign artillery systems were stored. In the area of Razumovka, four storage facilities for weapons of the Ukrainian army group "Zaporozhye" were liquidated.

At the same time, 62 artillery subunits and 137 enemy manpower and equipment accumulation areas were hit. Shot down two HIMARS rockets and one Excalibur guided munition.

As a result of the morning attack on Krivoy Rog, the railway infrastructure was disabled. This, in turn, complicates the transfer of the 17th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Kherson direction to the left bank of the Dnieper.

The situation in Donbass

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to attack the defenders of Donbass on the Svatovo-Kremennaya line, widely using sabotage and reconnaissance groups. Such activity, coupled with local offensives in adjacent directions, may indicate the preparation of large-scale actions here after the intensification of cold weather and the hardening of the soil.

In the Kharkov region, meanwhile, the accumulation of reserves continues, which can be used to build a layered offensive against Svatovo. Now reconnaissance in force takes place in small forces of several dozen people.
