A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that after retreating around 20km in the north of the Kherson sector in early October, Russian forces are likely attempting to consolidate a new front line west from the village of Mylove. Heavy fighting continues along this line, especially at the western end where Ukrainian advances mean Russia's flank is no longer protected by the Inhulets River. Most of the Russia troops on this front line remain understrength VDV (airborne) units. In recent days, the Russian occupation authorities have likely ordered preparation for the evacuation of some civilians from Kherson. It is likely that they anticipate combat extending to the city of Kherson itself.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia continues to focus his efforts on attempts to implement his plans to enter the administrative border of Donetsk oblast, as well as to maintain the captured districts of Kherson, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv oblasts. Russian continues to resist, pulls up reserves, conducts mobilization. The Russian occupiers fire at the positions of Ukrianian troops along the entire contact line, carry out engineering equipment of the positions in certain directions and conduct aerial reconnaissance.

Russian forces continue to attack critical infrastructure and civilian objects of Ukraine. In particular, the objects and civilians of the settlements of Nalyvaikivka, Kyiv oblast, Mykolaiv and Nikopol were affected. For strikes, the Russian forces used cruise, aviation, anti-aircraft guided missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles of Iranian production. In general, during the current day, the Russian occupiers launched 1 missile and 15 airstrikes, and carried out 22 attacks from rocket launchers.

The situation in the Volyn and Polissya directions has not changed significantly. The threat of missile and air strikes from the airspace and territory of the Republic of Belarus remains.

The enemy fired in other directions:

    in the Siversky direction - from mortars and barrel artillery, in the areas of Atynske and Velyka Rybytsia settlements;
    in the Slobozhansk direction - from mortars, barrel and rocket artillery, in the areas of Hryanikyvka, Gatyshche and Strilecha settlements;
    in the Kramatorsk direction - from tanks and artillery of various types, along the entire line of contact. In particular, in the areas of the settlements of Bilohorivka, Terny and Yampolivka;
    in the Bakhmut direction - from tanks, mortars, barrel and jet artillery, in the areas of the settlements of Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Zelenopillia, Soledar, Mayorsk, Ivanhrad and Yakovlivka;

Russian occupiers continue to take away Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories. So, since the beginning of October, according to available information, about 170 children have been taken out of the city of Kherson.
Representatives of Russia's private military companies continue to recruit prisoners for war on the territory of our country. According to available information, on October 11-12, 385 prisoners were recruited in correctional colony No. 16 of the city of Salavat of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

In addition, Belgorod was attacked, the air defense system (air defense) worked in the city. As a result of the shelling, destruction was recorded in a residential apartment building - the technical floor was damaged, on which a fragment of a rocket fell.

Vladimir Rogov , a member of the main council of the administration of the Zaporozhye region , commented on reports of an increase in the water level in the Dnieper due to the intensive work of the Kiev and Kanev hydroelectric power stations. According to the official, the dumping is carried out by Kyiv, among other things, to flood the coastal fortifications on the left bank of the Dnieper and facilitate the upcoming landing operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the ZNPP area.

Kherson region

Acting Governor of the Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo turned to the Russian authorities for help in organizing the possibility for local residents to travel to other regions of the country for recreation and study in order to protect them from the consequences of missile strikes.
