Russo-Ukraine War - 24 November 2022 - Day 274
A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The UK Ministry of Defence reported that in the last two weeks, Russia has likely redeployed major elements of the VDV (airborne forces) to the Donetsk and Luhansk fronts in the Donbas. From September to October, most of the severely weakened VDV units were dedicated to the defence of Russian-held territory west of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast. Some VDV units have likely been reinforced with mobilised reservists. Although these poorly trained personnel will dilute VDV's supposedly elite capability, Russia will likely still allocate these units to sectors deemed especially important. Potential operational tasks for the VDV include supporting the defence of the Kremina-Svatove area in Luhansk Oblast or reinforcing offensive operations against the Donetsk Oblast town of Bakhmut.
The UK Ministry of Defence also reported that Russia was using Iranian drones to strike the Ukrainian electrical grid and are likely targeting medical facilities, making life even tougher for Ukrainians facing a harsh winter. Despite this bombardment, the Ukrainian military have neutralised the majority of attacks. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia continues armed aggression against the Ukrainian state. We are talking about the disabling of energy facilities, one of the consequences of which was the violation of the transfer of reinforcements, equipment and weapons for the Ukrainian army by rail. Separately, it is emphasized that all cases of explosions within the boundaries of Kyiv are associated with the fall of anti-aircraft missiles fired by the army of the Kyiv regime.

The situation in Donbass
There is a lull in the Starobelsky direction, the parties are waging a positional war, artillery skirmishes and trying to send sabotage groups to each other's rear.
Apparently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing a major offensive here after the ground freezes: the 14th and 92nd Ukrainian brigades are being rotated, reserves are being accumulated in the Kharkiv region, including from the Kherson region.
The line of contact has not undergone significant changes in the Bakhmut and Soledar sectors, but fierce battles continue here, in which the parties actively resort to counterattacks. A significant part of the road bridges here are deliberately blown up, and mining is widely used.
Russian units are advancing on Kurdyumovka after clearing Mayorsk, and five platoon strongholds have been captured west of Zaitsevo. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are concentrating reserves in Toretsk and Kirovo.
