A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The UK Ministry of Defence reported that the Kakhovka Dam on the Dnipro River is the site of major hydroelectric power plant as well as providing one of the two main road crossing points of the lower reaches of the Dnipro River. Ukrainian precision strikes have targeted the site since August, successfully disrupting Russian military resupply.
On 11 November 2022 the site suffered further significant damage, almost certainly because of controlled demolitions by retreating Russian forces. This was likely done in an attempt to hinder future Ukrainian advances.
Three spans of both the road and rail bridges on the northern end of the dam were destroyed, rendering the crossings impassable. However, the three spillway gates below this section of the dam remained largely intact. The current level of damage is unlikely to result in major flooding downstream.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia does not stop shelling the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements near the contact line. During the day, the Russian occupiers carried out 2 air strikes, 3 missile strikes and launched more than 13 MLRS attacks. A rocket attack was made against a civil infrastructure object in the city of Zaporizhzhia. The situation in the Volyn and Polissya directions has not changed significantly.Russian forces shelled in other such directions:
-
in the Slobozhansk direction - from artillery of various types, in the areas of the settlements of Strilecha, Hlyboke, Morokhovets, Ternova, Starytsa, Vovchansk, Bilyi Kolodyaz, Bochkove, Mala Vovcha and Komisarove;

in the Avdiivka direction - from tanks, mortars, barrel and jet artillery, in the areas of Kamianka, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske and Maryinka;

In the Kherson direction, the settlements of Nikopol and Chervonohrihorivka of the Dnipropetrovsk oblast were directly affected by the fire of barrel and jet artillery.
Russian occupation forces continue to suffer losses on the territory of Ukraine. Thus, as a result of fire damage to the area of the Russian enemy's concentration on November 15, in the settlement of Denezhnikovo, Luhansk oblast, the Russian forces' losses amounted to about 50 people killed and wounded. The elimination of 8 Russian occupiers and wounding of 16 armed persons on November 9 in the area of the city of Amvrosiivka, Donetsk oblast , was also confirmed.
As a result of the actions of the Defense Forces, a railway bridge was damaged in the area of Chernihivka, Zaporizhzhia oblast. This makes it impossible to use the building in the interests of the Russian occupiers.
A successful fire attack on the location of enemy personnel on November 15 in the areas of Skadovsk, Novomykolaivka and Nova Mayachka settlements was confirmed. Information on the number of casualties of the invaders is being clarified.
In Melitopol, the broadcast of russian TV channels has been disabled. There are also significant problems with water supply in the city.
Aviation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the enemy 2 times during the day. 2 enemy anti-aircraft missile systems were hit. During the current day, soldiers of the missile troops and artillery struck 2 control points, 3 areas of concentration of manpower, weapons and military equipment, and 2 ammunition warehouses of the Russian invaders.
The Russian Defense Ministry commented on the explosion of a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile in Poland, emphasizing that on November 15, attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure facilities were carried out no closer than 35 kilometers from the border of a European state. The published images of the wreckage indicate that they belong to the ammunition from the S-300 air defense system, and any accusations against Russia are a deliberate provocation, the purpose of which is to deepen tensions.
In addition, not a single blow was inflicted on Kyiv, and all cases of explosions in the city are the result of the detonation of Ukrainian anti-aircraft installations, said the official representative of the military department, Igor Konashenkov.
During the past 24 hours, aviation and artillery of the RF Armed Forces hit seven command posts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), an ammunition depot, two M777 howitzers, an AN / TPQ-50 counter-battery radar, 94 artillery units and 185 enemy concentration areas.
Fighters and air defense systems shot down a Ukrainian Air Force Mi-8, three drones and 11 rockets.
The deputy head of the military-civilian administration of the Kherson region, Ekaterina Gubareva, was detained on suspicion of economic crimes, RT writes, citing its sources. It is reported that now law enforcement agencies are conducting investigative procedures.
This information has not yet been officially confirmed, but earlier her husband Pavel Gubarev said that Catherine did not get in touch. While all the circumstances of the incident are being clarified, the duties of the official are distributed among her colleagues.
The situation in the Donbass
Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out reconnaissance in force at the Peschanoe-Stelmakhovka sector using units of the 92nd and 14th brigades, while the 103rd defense brigade attacked the Russian Armed Forces near Kuzemovka.
The enemy is preparing for an offensive in this direction, for which up to two artillery brigades have already been drawn up to the Orlyanka-Zatishnoe-Svatovo line. On the Pervomaiskoye-Yagodnoye-Raygorodok line, Russian positions are being reconnoitered, drones with ammunition drop systems are being used.
At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine went on the defensive in the Liman sector, accumulating reinforcements and ammunition. The activity of sabotage and reconnaissance groups in the Krasnopopovka area is noted.
In addition, fighting continues near Belogorovka near Lysichansk, Ukrainian units are bringing reserves into battle.
