A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The UK Ministry of Defence reported that Russia has started constructing defensive structures around the occupied southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol. Two plants are producing concrete pyramidal anti-tank structures, known as dragon's teeth, for this purpose.
Dragon's teeth have likely been installed between Mariupol and Nikolske village; and from northern Mariupol to Staryi Krym village. Mariupol forms part of Russia's 'land bridge' from Russia to Crimea, a key logistics line of communication. Dragon's teeth have additionally been sent for the preparation of defensive fortifications in occupied Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.
Russia is fortifying its lines throughout areas of occupation. On 19 October 2022, Wagner Group owner Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed the construction of a fortified 'Wagner Line' of defences in Russian-occupied Luhansk Oblast. This activity suggests Russia is making a significant effort to prepare defences in depth behind their current front line, likely to forestall any rapid Ukrainian advances in the event of breakthroughs.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia is trying to keep the temporarily captured territories, concentrates efforts on restraining the actions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in certain areas. Conducts offensive actions in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka directions. Russia is shelling units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine along the contact line, carrying out border fortification equipment in separate directions and conducting aerial reconnaissance. It continues to strike critical infrastructure and civilian homes in violation of International Humanitarian Law, the laws and customs of war.
Russian forces launched 3 missile and 10 air strikes. This affected areas of settlements in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts.
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the situation remains without significant changes. The Republic of Belarus continues to support the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, providing it with infrastructure, territory and airspace. The formation of the Russian-Belarusian grouping of troops on the territory of the Republic of Belarus continues. There is still a threat of the enemy launching airstrikes using strike UAVs from the territory and airspace of this country.

Russian forces continue to loot and destroy civilian infrastructure in the temporarily occupied territories of the Kherson region. Thus, on November 7, convoys of trucks with household appliances and construction materials moved across the Kakhovska HPP dam. Dismantling and removal of equipment, mobile communication towers of Ukrainian operators continues.
In the area of the city of Beryslav, the Russian occupiers blew up power lines and the equipment of a solar power plant. The occupiers took away all artistic values, furniture and equipment from the Kherson Regional Museum of Shovkunenko.
In order to investigate the significant losses of the personnel of the units a group of representatives of the Investigative Committee of the russian federation was sent to the 155th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, in the city of Donetsk.
In the Melitopol and Mykhailiv districts of the Zaporizhia oblast, the Russian occupation forces are forcing the local population to obtain russian passports. At the same time, the Russian invaders take the passports of Ukrainian citizens and threaten resettlement.

A Mi-24 helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force was shot down over Novovoskresensky, and a Su-25 attack aircraft was shot down over Vuhledar. Also, air defense systems intercepted 7 drones and 17 rockets.
During the day, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched dozens of artillery strikes on the villages of Uspenovka, Guevo and Plekhovo in the Kursk region, Governor Roman Starovoit reports. Power supply facilities were damaged, but power supply was restored by evening. Also, an enemy drone dropped an explosive device on the substation of the Glushkovsky district power grids.
The situation in the Donbass
The enemy is deploying units of the 36th and 95th brigades near Donetsk, trained in the UK. They will replace the 56th brigade, which is being withdrawn to the rear to make up for losses. Reinforcements are also being transferred to Pavlovka and Novomikhailovka.
In the Elizavetovka area, a battery of Polish Krab self-propelled howitzers from the 72nd brigade is deployed. In Novoukrainka, a point for interrogation and detention of Russian prisoners of war has been set up.
In the Svatovsky direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were advancing from the very morning, but all attacks were repulsed. The Ukrainian army is strengthening its positions between Nevsky and Krasnopopovka, installing, among other things, long-term firing points made of reinforced concrete.
The defenders of Donbass also do not stop the offensive. Russian volunteers are now continuing to fight with nationalists in the areas of Belogorovka, Nikolaevka-2, Andreevka, Experienced, Soledarea, Berestovoye, Disputed, Verkhnekamensky and on the outskirts of Bakhmut.
