A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces are directing efforts to disrupt the execution of Russian invaders' offensive plans and exhaust their combat potential.

Since the beginning of the day, there have been 130 combat clashes, Russian forces made, 51 aviation strikes (including 78 KABs) and 600 kamikaze drones strikes, almost 3.5,000 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops.

Near Vovchansk in Kharkiv direction Russian terrorists five times stormed the positions of Ukrainian units. Russian forces dropped air bombs in the areas of Neskučnogo, High Yaruga and New Cossack.
Eleven times Russian forces attacked Ukrainian fortifications in the kupâns Оkomu direction near kindrashivka, lozovoí̈, petropavlívka, zagrizovogo, peršotravnevogo and kruglyakívki. Petropavlivka and Lozov suffered aviation strikes.
Positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of settlements Grekivka, Novoegorivka, Grigorivka, Torske and Terna during the day in the Lyman direction were attacked by Russian troops 14 times. The enemy dropped the cab in the area of rajgorodka.
In the Siversk direction, Russian forces dropped nine air bombs on Siversk and four more on Zakitne, did not carry out offensive actions.
Near Stupočok, there was one collision in the Kramatorsky direction. The walls and Nikolaivka suffered airstrikes of kabama.
In the Toretsky direction, the Russian occupiers for today eight times stormed in the areas of Toretsk, Friendship and Scherbinivka. The Russian opponent was not successful. There is a fight in Toretsk. Aviation strikes were made by the enemy on Romanivka, Konstantinivka and Dry Baltic.
In the Pokrovsky direction, Russian forces carried out 37 assault and offensive actions during the day. The largest activity of the Russian occupiers is kept in the areas of Promen, Lisivka, Petrivka, Dachensky, Mirolûbívka, Novotoretsky, Yuryivka, Pustinki and Pushkinogo. Four confrontations in the direction are still ongoing. Estimated losses of the Russian enemy to the direction were 328 occupants killed and wounded, a tank, three BTRs, eight vehicles units were destroyed, also one tank, a cannon, two vehicles units and one SAU were damaged. Old Nikolaivka and Oleksandropil were attacked by kabamas.
Intensely attacks the Russian enemy Ukrainian units in the Kurakhiv direction. There are 22 attacks at this time of the day. Russian forces have tried to advance in the areas of Novoselidivka, Sonsivka, Berestkivka, Kurakhovy, Dalnyi, Elizabethtivka and Antonivka, currently one battle is being carried out near Sonsivka.
In the Vremivsky direction, the Russian aggressor, supported by aviation, attacked the front edge of Ukrainian defense 15 times near Konstantinopolsky, Trudovoy, Sukih Yaly, Rozdolny and Novodarivka. The four clashes are still ongoing.
The attempt to advance in the direction of Novoandriivka in the Orikhivsky direction ended unsuccessfully for the Russian enemy.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, two enemy attacks were repelled, the Russian opponent was not successful.
The operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region is ongoing. For today, Ukrainian defenders have repelled over 20 attempts of occupiers to knock out Ukrainian units from occupied positions.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces defeated units of the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), 13th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 5th Border Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine near Volchansk, Glubokoye, and Izbitskoye (Kharkov region). Two counter-attacks launched by enemy assault detachments have been repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 135 troops, a tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, four armoured fighting vehicles, a 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and an electronic warfare station.

The Zapad Group of Forces has improved the tactical situation. Moreover, the Group inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of the 14th, 28th, and 115th mechanised brigades of the AFU near Kupyansk, Zagryzovo, and Kruglyakovka (Kharkov region). In addition, three counter-attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 510 troops, four motor vehicles, a 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, a U.S.-made 105-mm M101 howitzer, and an Anklav-N electronic warfare station.

The Yug Group of Forces improved their position along the front line. Russian troops inflicted fire damage on 24th, 33rd, and 54th mechanised brigades, 79th Air Assault Brigade, 46th Airmobile Brigade, and 10th Mountain Assault Brigade of the AFU near Yantarnoye, Antonovka, Dachnoye, Uspenovka, and Kurakhovo (Donetsk People's Republic). One counter-attack launched by an AFU assault detachment was repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 550 troops, a tank, three U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, an armoured fighting vehicle, eight motor vehicles, a Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and four U.S.-made 105-mm M119 guns. One Nota electronic warfare station was destroyed.

The Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Novoselidovka (Donetsk People's Republic) as a result of intensive offensive actions.

They also inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of the 53rd, 100th, 117th mechanised brigades, 38th Marine Brigade, 12th and 14th national guard brigades close to Leonidovka, Belitskoye, Dzerzhinsk, Mirolyubovka, Grodovka, and Novoekonomicheskoye (Donetsk People's Republic). Six counter-attacks of enemy assault groups were repelled.

The enemy sustained losses of more than 310 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, a 152-mm D-20 gun, a 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and a 100-mm Rapira anti-tank gun.

The Vostok Group's units have taken more favourable lines and positions. They hit units of the 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 101st, 110th, 120th, 123rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades near Razlif, Novoselka, Makarovka, Ulakly, Velikaya Novoselka (Donetsk People's Republic), and Temirovka (Zaporozhye region). Russian units repelled a counter-attack of an AFU assault detachment.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 140 troops, a German-made Leopard tank, two armoured fighting vehicles, seven motor vehicles, two U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzers, and one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system. One field ammunition depot has been destroyed.

The Dnepr Group of Forces engaged personnel and hardware of the 31st and 118th mechanised brigades of the AFU and 3rd Territorial Defence Brigade close to Malaya Tokmachka and Novoandreyevka (Zaporozhye region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 65 troops, 11 motor vehicles, a 152-mm D-20 gun, and an Anklav-N electronic warfare station. One field ammunition depot has been destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces delivered strikes at infrastructure of military airfields, power objects ensuring operation of the Ukrainian defence industry, as well as engaged manpower clusters and military hardware in 146 areas.

Air defence units shot down five ballistic missiles, four French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, a U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectile, and 85 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 648 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 36,259 unmanned aerial vehicles, 586 anti-aircraft missile systems, 19,386 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,490 MLRS combat vehicles, 18,181 field artillery guns and mortars, and 28,525 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.

The units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on formations of 41st, 44th, 47th, 115th mechanised brigades, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 117th and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Leonidovo, Nizhny Klin, and Novoivanovka.

Operational-Tactical and Army aviation and artillery inflicted fire damage on enemy manpower and hardware close to Bogdanovka, Daryino, Martynovka, Mirny, Nikolayevka, Nikolayevo-Darino, Novaya Sorochina, Plekhovo, Sverdlikovo, Staraya Sorochina, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, as well as Basovka and Zhuravka in Sumy region.

The enemy sustained losses of up to 320 troops, two tanks, to include one German-made Leopard 2 tank, one U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, an armoured personnel carrier, 15 armoured fighting vehicles, 10 motor vehicles, three self-propelled artillery systems, and one electronic warfare station. Six AFU servicemen surrendered.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses have amounted to more than 33,990 troops, 215 tanks, 141 infantry fighting vehicles, 116 armoured personnel carriers, 1,190 armoured fighting vehicles, 968 motor vehicles, 294 artillery guns, 40 MLRS launchers, including HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, 13 anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven transport-loading vehicles, 67 EW stations, 13 counter-battery warfare radars, four air defence radars, 27 units of engineering and other materiel, including 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, six armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
