A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively thwart the Russian enemy's attempts to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, giving him an effective fire effect, exhaustion across the entire frontline.
In total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 167 combat clashes.
Russian zagarbniki launched one missile and 56 air strikes on the territory of Ukraine, using one guided missile and 81 cab. In addition, the Russians have engaged 437 kamikaze drones and carried out more than three thousand shells on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 8 Russian attacks in the areas of vovchansk and gatishya-7 attacks repelled, 1 more attack is ongoing, the situation is controlled.
In the Kupyansky direction, Russian forces 13 times attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Pi роany, Zagrizovy, Petropavlivka, Green Grove, Kruglyakivka, Kolisnikivka and Lozova. Ukrainian defenders repelled seven attacks, six more are currently ongoing.
In the Lyman direction during the day, Russian zagarbniki 16 times attacked the positions of Ukrainians near Grekivka, Terniv, Yampolivka, Torsky and Serebryansky forest. Currently, two fights are being sharpened. To the same time, the Russian opponent actively applied aviation, causing twenty-four air strikes with uncontrolled missiles.
In the sívers 'komu direction throughout the day, Russian forces committed seven offensive actions in the areas of ivano-daryivka and viymki.
In the Kramatorsky direction, one combat confrontation near the Predtechiny has been recorded, which has been successfully repelled by Ukrainian defenders.
By dropping three controlled air bombs in the Toretsky direction, the Russians attacked the positions of defense forces eight times. The main efforts of the attack were concentrated near the settlements of Toretsk and Scherbinivka. Currently, one combat encounter continues.
Since the beginning of this day, in the Pokrovsky direction, the Russians have tried 11 times to break through Ukrainian defense near the settlements of Mykolaivka, Rumin, Krutiy Yar, Selidove and Vyshneve. There is still one battle going on near Krutoy Yar. The Russian enemy suffers significant losses - today in this direction 229 occupiers were defecated, 87 of them - irrevocably. Also destroyed two tanks and two enemy's BMPs.
In the Kurakhiv direction, the Russian enemy is also active - 51 times attacked Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Illinka, Novoselidivka, Novodmitrivka, Gostre, Maksimilyanivka, Antonivka, Konstantinivka and Katerinivka, nine battles - continue. According to detailed information, 180 occupants were damaged, 66 of them - irrevocably, in addition, one car was destroyed and two armored vehicles and one artillery system were damaged.
In the vremívs заkomu direction, the Russian zagarbniki carried out 14 offensive actions near trudovogo and maksimívka. The four clashes are still going on. The enemy made an aviation strike in the areas of Novodarivka, Bogoyavlenki, Maximivka and Velika Novosilka, dropping six CAB and applying 30 NAR.
In the oríhívs поkomu direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 4 Russian attacks near novoandrívka, robotinyogo and small tokmački. So far, there is one Russian attempt to advance in the direction of Ukrainian positions near Novoandriivka.
In the pridniprovsk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled three Russian attacks near the cossacks camps, dnipro and the cossack island, the Russian opponent had no success.
In other directions, the situation has not changed significantly.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Kharkov direction, the Sever Group of Forces inflicted fire damage on formations of 42nd Mechanised Brigade, 71st Jaeger Brigade of the AFU, 107th, 116th, and 129th territorial defence brigades close to Glubokoye, Volchansk, Stroeyevka, and Perovskoye (Kharkov region).
One counter-attack launched by assault detachments of the AFU 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade was repelled. The AFU losses amounted to more than 60 troops and two motor vehicles. One field ammunition depot was destroyed.
The Zapad Group of Forces liberated Pershotravnevoye (Kharkov region).
Russian troops hit units of the 14th, 44th, 116th mechanised brigades, 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU and 1st National Guard Brigade near Petropavlovka, Golubovka (Kharkov region), Stelmakhovka, Nadiya (Lugansk People's Republic), as well as Serebryansky forestry. One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the AFU 14th Mechanised Brigade was repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 470 troops, a tank, two U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carriers, four motor vehicles, a Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, a U.S.-made 122-mm M198 howitzer, a 152-mm D-20 gun, three 122-mm D-30 howitzers, a UK-made 105-mm L-119 gun, two Anklav-N electronic warfare stations. Two ammunition depots were wiped out.
The Yug Group of Forces improved the tactical position. Russian units hit formations of 24th, 72nd, 33rd mechanised brigades and 79th Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Chasov Yar, Yelizavetovka, Kurakhovo, and Dalneye of the Donetsk People's Republic. One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the AFU 46th Airmobile Brigade was repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 800 troops, ten motor vehicles, a Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, a 152-mm D-20 gun, and a 122-mm D-30 howitzer.
The Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Kurakhovka of the Donetsk People's Republic.
Russian units engaged manpower and materiel of 23rd Mechanised Brigade, 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 35th Marine Brigade, 101st and 109th territorial defence brigades close to Dzerzhinsk, Kalinovo, Voznesenka, Sukhaya Balka, and Druzhba (Donetsk People's Republic). Five AFU counter-attacks were repelled.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 535 troops, an armoured personnel carrier, three armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, a Grad MLRS combat vehicle, a 152-mm Dana self-propelled artillery system, a 152-mm Msta-B self-propelled artillery system, a 152-mm D-20 self-propelled artillery system, a 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and a 122-mm D-30 howitzer.
The Vostok Group of Forces' units continued advancing to the depths of the enemy's defence. Russian troops hit formations of 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 152nd Jaeger Brigade, 48th Assault Battalion of the AFU, 37th Marine Brigade, 21st National Guard Brigade close to Razdolnoye, Velikaya Novoselka, Uspenovka, Makarovka, and Oktyabr (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU lost up to 115 troops, an infantry fighting vehicle, three armoured fighting vehicles, ten motor vehicles, a U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system, and a French-made 155-mm Caesar howitzer. Three field ammunition depots were destroyed.
The Dnepr Group of Forces engaged manpower and hardware of 110th, 117th mechanised brigades, 141st Infantry Brigade, 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 121st, 124th, and 126th territorial defence brigades close to Novodanilovka, Stepnoye, Kamenskoye (Zaporozhye region), Veletenskoye, Sadovoye, Krupitsa, and Nikolskoye (Kherson region).
The AFU losses amounted to up to 65 troops, three motor vehicles, a Grad MLRS combat vehicle, a 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, and an Anklav-N electronic warfare station. One ammunition depot was wiped out.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack UAVs, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces engaged the power infrastructure facility used for the AFU, the Kraken nationalist formation command post, the infrastructure of a military airfield, a fuel base of the AFU, a workshop for the production of strike UAVs, as well as clusters of enemy manpower and military hardware in 149 areas.
Russian air defence systems shot down four U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, three French-made Hammer aerial guided bombs, and 50 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 647 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 35,169 unmanned aerial vehicles, 585 anti-aircraft missile systems, 19,023 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,484 MLRS combat vehicles, 17,176 field artillery guns and mortars, and 27,930 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of Kursk region.
The Sever Group of Forces continued offensive actions in which the units of 21st, 22nd, 41st, and 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 112th, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU suffered losses near Daryino, Leonidovo, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka, and Plyokhovo.
The Group's units repelled four enemy counter-attacks in the direction of Kamyshovka and Novoivanovka, and thwarted AFU attempts to attack in the direction of Daryino and Leonidovo. The AFU losses amounted to up to 30 people killed and wounded; seven AFU servicemen surrendered.
Army aviation and artillery inflicted losses on the clusters of manpower and hardware of 21st, 41st, 47th, and 61st mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, and 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 1st Special Operations Brigade, 112th and 129th territorial defence brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and 17th National Guard Brigade of Ukraine near Aleksandriya, Viktorovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Zelyony Shlyakh, Kazachaya Loknya, Kolmakov, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Mirny, Nizhny Klin, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Novoya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Plyokhovo, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops hit concentration areas in the Sumy region and reserves of 21st, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade as well as 129th Territorial Defence Brigade of the AFU close to Basovka, Belovody, Vodolagi, Zhuravka, Loknya, Miropolye, Pavlovka, and Khoten.
During the day, the AFU losses were over 250 troops, an armoured fighting vehicle as well as an artillery gun, a mortar, and three motor vehicles. Seven AFU servicemen surrendered.
Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses were more than 29,100 troops, 180 tanks, 101 infantry fighting vehicles, 106 armoured personnel carriers, 1,063 armoured fighting vehicles, 780 motor vehicles, 255 artillery guns, 40 MLRS launchers, including 11 of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, ten anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven transport-loading vehicles, 58 EW stations, 12 counter-battery warfare radars, four AD radars, 25 units of engineering vehicles and other materiel, 13 counterobstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, five armoured recovery vehicles, and one command post vehicle.
The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
