A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 181 combat encounters. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively interrupt the attempts of the Russian enemy to advance into the depths of Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression. The hottest situation remains in the Pokrovsky direction, also Russia is active in the Kurakhiv direction.

Russian zagarbniki launched on the territory of Ukraine four missile strikes with the use of six missiles, as well as 57 air strikes, dropping 66 cabív. In addition, 729 kamikaze drones were recruited and carried out more than 3,800 shelling at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, there were three boons. Defense forces repelled Russian attacks near Staritsa, Tikhoy and Vovchansk. The battle is over.
In the Kupiansky direction, Russian forces carried out offensive actions near Sinkivka, Glushkivka, Lozova, Stelmakhivka and Kolisnikivka. Nineteen battles completed, one more to go.
In the Lyman direction Russian zagarbniki stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops near Grekivka, Nevsky, Novosadovy and Torsky. As of now, all 15 combat clashes are completed.
In the Sívers вкиkomu direction Ukrainian defenders repelled four Russian offensive actions in the areas of bílogorivka, verkhnyokamânsky and spirnogo.
In the Kramators тоkomu direction, there were 10 battles near Minkivka, Grigorivka and White Mountain, where two Russian attacks are currently continuing.
17 combat clashes took place in the Toretsky direction. The Russians stormed the positions of Ukrainian units near Toretsk, šcherbinívka and leonídivka. Fourteen clashes completed, three still going.
On the Pokrovsky direction, since the beginning of this day, 39 battles have been sharpened in the areas of the settlements Green Field, Mykolaivka, Fox, Cool Yar, Novogrodivka, Selidove, Marinivka and Red Yar. The Defense Forces repelled 34 offensive actions, five are still continuing.
Today 278 Russian invaders were defecated in this direction, of which 116 - irrevocably. Also destroyed two Russian cannons, four BPLAs, two trench REBS, three cars and two units of motor equipment. In addition, an armored transporter, four artillery systems, two cars and two motorcycles were damaged.
In the Kurakhiv direction, Russian forces stormed 34 times near Tsukurinyogo, the desired second, Georgiyivka, Mykolaivka, Paraskoviyivka, Konstantinivka and Katerynivka. Ukrainian defenders have stopped 27 attacks, seven are still ongoing.
In the Vremívs міkomu direction, Russian forces made five attempts to push Ukrainian units out of the occupied borders of defense near Vodyany, Katerinivka and Epiphany. Four fights down, one still going.
In the Orihiv direction, there were three collisions. Russian zagarbniki attacked near Robotiny.
In the Pridniprovsk direction, the Russian occupiers were defeated, twice storming the positions of Ukrainian troops.
Defense Forces of Ukraine continue the operation in the Kursk region. The Russian enemy's aviation does not stop striking controlled aviation bombs on the territory of Russia. At this moment it is known about 12 aviation strikes with the application of 14 cabív.

In other directions - without much change.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 36th Marine Brigade, and 113th Territorial Defence Brigade near Liptsy, Volchansk, and Volchanskye Khutora (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 235 troops, three motor vehicles, one 152-mm D-20 gun, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, one 122-mm Grad MLRS launcher.

Units of the Zapad Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions as well as inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 3rd Tank Brigade, 14th, 44th, 53rd, 63rd, 66th mechanised brigades of the AFU near Kupyansk-Uzlovoy, Petropavlovka, Vishnyovoye, Pershetravnevoye, Olgovka (Kharkov region), Grigorovka (Donetsk People's Republic), and Chervonaya Dibrova (Lugansk People's Republic).

One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the AFU 66th Mechanised Brigade was repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 435 troops, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, eight motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, two Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery systems, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one Croatian-made RAK-SA-12 MLRS launcher.

Two Anklav-N electronic warfare stations, one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-37 counter-battery radar, and two ammunition depots were destroyed.

Units of the Yug Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on formations of the 24th, 54th mechanised brigades of the AFU, and 119th Territorial Defence Brigade near Seversk, Verkhnekamenskoye, Kramatorsk, and Nikolayevka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 750 troops, ten motor vehicles, two U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzers, one Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm D-20 gun, two 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery systems, one U.S.-made 105-mm M119 gun, Anklav-N and Nota electronic warfare stations. Nine ammunition depots were destroyed.

As a result of decisive actions, units of the Tsentr Group of Forces liberated Ukrainsk (Donetsk People's Republic).

Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of the 53rd, 100th, 110th, 151st mechanised brigades, 68th Jaeger Brigade of the AFU, and 116th Territorial Defence Brigade near Leonidovka, Krasnoarmeysk, Shcherbinovka, Dobropolye, Nikolayevka, Gornyak, and Tarasovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

Ten counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 53rd, 150th, and 151st mechanised brigades, 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 68th Jaeger Brigade, 142nd Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 12th, 14th, and 15th national guard brigades were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 670 troops, one tank, two armoured fighting vehicles, five motor vehicles, two 152-mm D-20 guns, and one 152-mm Giatsint-B gun.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on formations of the 72nd Mechanised Brigade, 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, and 118th Territorial Defence Brigade near Ugledar, Novoukrainka, and Zolotaya Niva (Donetsk People's Republic).

Two counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the AFU 72nd Mechanised Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 130 troops, one tank, three infantry fighting vehicles, seven motor vehicles, and one French-made 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery system.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 39th Coastal Defence Brigade and 124th Territorial Defence Brigade near Ponyatovka, Antonovka, and Pridneprovskoye (Kherson region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 60 troops, ten motor vehicles, one 155-mm Bogdana self-propelled artillery system, and one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer. One P-19 radar station and one ammunition depot were destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces delivered strikes at power objects ensuring operation of Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, infrastructure of a military airfield, and engaged AFU manpower and hardware clusters in 142 areas.

Air defence units shot down one Neptune long-range guided missile, three French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, five U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, and 45 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 32,263 unmanned aerial vehicles, 579 anti-aircraft missile systems, 18,356 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,464 MLRS combat vehicles, 15,207 field artillery guns and mortars, and 26,510 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are repelling an attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the territory of the Russian Federation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces continued offensive operations and inflicted losses on formations of the 21st, 22nd, 41st mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 36th Marine Brigade, 112th, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, and Plekhovo.

Over the past 24 hours, units of the Sever Group of Forces repelled one enemy counter-attack in the direction of Obukhovka. As a result, the AFU losses amounted to up to 15 troops killed and wounded; two armoured fighting vehicles and one motor vehicle were destroyed.

With the support of Army Aviation and artillery fire, three AFU attempts to break through the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of Novy Put and Medvezhye were foiled. The AFU losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, four armoured fighting vehicles, and two motor vehicles.

Army Aviation and artillery fire inflicted losses on manpower and hardware clusters of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Kruglenkoye, Kubatkin, Knyazhy Pervy, Kositsa, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Novy Put, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Tolsty Lug, and Yuzhny.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops delivered strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas and reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 47th, 115th mechanised brigades, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, 101st, 103rd, 106th, 129th territorial defence brigades near Barilo, Belovody, Byvalino, Vorozhba, Zhuravka, Glukhov, Gurinovka, Zarutskoye, Iskriskovshchina, Kislaya Dubina, Katerinovka, Pavlovka, Rechki, Starye Virki, Stetskovka, Sumy, Shalygino, and Khoten.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 340 troops and 12 armoured fighting vehicles as well as four artillery guns and 11 motor vehicles.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than 17,400 troops, 130 tanks, 62 infantry fighting vehicles, 95 armoured personnel carriers, 824 armoured fighting vehicles, 525 motor vehicles, 142 artillery guns, 31 MLRS launchers, including eight of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, eight SAM launchers, five transport-loading vehicles, 35 electronic warfare stations and eight counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, 18 engineering vehicles, including 11 counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, as well as one armoured recovery vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
