A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces are directing efforts to disrupt the implementation of Russian zagarbnikami's offensive plans. Ukrainian warriors are inflicting heavy losses to the Russian enemy, depleting their combat potential.

Since the beginning of the day, there have been 121 combat clashes, Russian forces launched one missile (2 rockets), 52 aviation strikes (71 KABs in particular) and 625 kamikaze drones strikes, carrying out more than 3,900 shelling positions of Ukrainian troops.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian terrorists four times unsuccessfully stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the Vovchansk district. There is another fight going on near the last one. According to available information, for today the Russian opponent in this direction has lost more than 40 soldiers killed and wounded. Ukrainian defenders destroyed a Russian anti-tank, two vehicles units and 37 BPLAs, a tank, an armored car, four artillery systems and a Russian car were also damaged.
Fourteen times Russian forces attacked Ukrainian fortifications in the Kupians Чоkomu direction near Petropavlivka, Sinkivka, Glushkivka, Kruglyakivka, Lozovoí̈ and Stelmahivka. At this time there are four clashes in the areas of Petropavlivka, Glushkívka, Lozovoí̈ and Kruglyakívka.
Five attacks of the Russian enemy are currently being repelled by Ukrainian warriors near Makiyivka, Nevsky and Bilogorivka in the Lyman direction. Seven Russian assault actions during the day were stopped near Cherneshina, Druzhelyubivka, Novosadovy and Dibrova.
In the Sívers Наkomu direction, Ukrainian troops stopped the Russian enemy's attempt to improve the tactical position near Viimka. The Russian invaders suffered losses. Another fight is underway at this location. In the kramators напряkomu direction, seven attempts of zagarbnikív to advance near kalinívka, kliš .íivka, grigorívka and stupočkiv. Two clashes are still going on. In the Toretsky direction, Russian forces six times today stormed in the areas of Dachny, Toretsk, šcherbinivka and nelipivka. Russian forces bombing and assault aviation were actively involved. Continuing combat in two locations - the Russian enemy is pressing, trying to advance in the areas of Nelipivka and Sherbinivka.
Intensely attacks the Russian opponent of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. During the day, in total, 27 assault and offensive actions. The largest activity of Russian occupiers is kept in the regions of Marinivka and Novotoretsk. The clashes near Mirolûbívka are ongoing. According to preliminary calculations, today Ukrainian warriors eliminated 145 and wounded 163 Russian invaders. Destroyed RSZV BM-21 "Hail", six artillery systems, tank, BMP, two anti-tank vehicles, five cars and three motorcycles of the zagarbnikív. 13 artillery systems, two tanks, BMP and 12 cars were also damaged.
In the Kurakhiv direction at this time of the day, there are 11 combat clashes. Russian troops tried to advance in the areas of settlements Girnyk, Tsukurine, Zhelanne Druge, Katerynivka and Konstantinivka.
In the Vremívs жихkomu direction, one attack of Russian units was shot, three fights in the area of vugledar.
Russian forces became active in the Orihiv direction, where two attacks per day near the settlement of Robotine. Never been successful.
In the pridniprovsk direction, the Russian assault has failed.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Liptsy and Volchansk directions, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 36th Marine Brigade, and 5th Border Security Detachment of the Ukrainian Border Guard near Volchansk and Liptsy (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 160 troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, two motor vehicles, one 152-mm D-20 howitzer, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

Units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 30th, 53rd, 116th mechanised brigades of the AFU, and 114th Territorial Defence Brigade near Petropavlovka, Peschannoye (Kharkov region), Serebryanka, Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), and Nevskoye (Lugansk People's Republic).

Five counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 66th, 67th mechanised brigades of the AFU, and 1st National Guard Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 420 troops, two tanks, three pickup trucks, two 152-mm D-20 howitzers, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and three U.S.-made 105-mm M119 howitzers.

One U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar and five ammunition depots were destroyed.

Units of the Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions as well as inflicted losses on formations of the 23rd, 28th, 30th, 33rd, 93rd mechanised brigades, 79th Air Assault Brigade, 59th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 5th Assault Brigade, 10th, 12th mountain assault brigades, 101st Brigade for the Protection of the General Staff of the AFU, 118th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 18th National Guard Brigade near Raygorodok, Druzhkovka, Chasov Yar, Predtechino, Belaya Gora, Zaliznyanskoye, Nikolayevka, Konstantinopol, Kurakhovo, and Konstantinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 560 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, 20 motor vehicles, one Swedish-made 155-mm Archer self-propelled artillery system, one UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzer, four U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzers, and one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer.

Two AFU ammunition depots were destroyed.

Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 53rd, 67th, 150th mechanised brigades, 144th Infantry Brigade, 46th Airmobile Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 78th Air Assault Regiment, 5th Special Operations Brigade of the AFU, 119th Territorial Defence Brigade, and 15th National Guard Brigade near Dzerzhinsk, Krasnoarmeysk, Tsukurino, Petrovka, Dimitrov, Selidovo, Ukrainsk, and Gornyak (Donetsk People's Republic).

Eleven counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 42nd, 100th, 154th mechanised brigades, 68th Jaeger Brigade, 25th Airborne Brigade, 49th, 425th assault battalions of the AFU, 12th, 15th national guard brigades, and 5th Detachment of the Special Operations Forces were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 445 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, two pickup trucks, one 152-mm D-20 howitzer, and three 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

One Anklav electronic warfare station and one ammunition depot were destroyed.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on formations of the 33rd Mechanised Brigade, 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, and 116th Territorial Defence Brigade near Dobrovolye, Shakhtyorskoye (Donetsk People's Republic), and Temirovka (Zaporozhye region).

Three counter-attacks launched by formations of the 72nd Mechanised Brigade of the AFU and 117th Territorial Defence Brigade were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 145 troops, one tank, 12 motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, and one UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzer.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 39th Coastal Defence Brigade of the AFU, 123rd, and 124th territorial defence brigades near Tokaryovka, Ingulets, Pridneprovskoye, and Antonovka (Kherson region).

The AFU losses amounted to more than 60 troops, three motor vehicles, and one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces wiped out one 36D6 low-altitude target detection and tracking radar, delivered strikes at power infrastructure ensuring operation of Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, infrastructure of military airfields, UAV production workshops, as well as engaged AFU manpower and hardware clusters in 141 areas.

Air defence units shot down six French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, six U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, two S-200 surface-to-air guided missiles converted to hit ground targets, and 106 fixed-wing UAVs.

In total, 646 airplanes and 283 helicopters, 32,089 unmanned aerial vehicles, 579 air defence missile systems, 18,325 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,457 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 15,025 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 26,370 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are repelling an attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the territory of the Russian Federation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces continued offensive actions and inflicted losses on formations of the 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, 36th Marine Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades near Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Tolsty Lug, Malaya Loknya, and Plekhovo.

Over the past 24 hours, units of the Sever Group of Forces repelled seven attacks of the enemy in the direction of Maryevka, Malaya Loknya, and Bolshaya Obukhovka. As a result, the AFU losses amounted to up to 20 troops killed and wounded.

Moreover, with support of Army Aviation and artillery fire, the Group's units repelled three AFU attempts to break through the border of the Russian Federation towards Novy Put and Medvezhye.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, two armoured fighting vehicles, one counterobstacle vehicle, and two motor vehicles. Five AFU servicemen surrendered.

Air strikes, artillery fire, and actions of troops inflicted losses on manpower and hardware clusters of the 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades of the AFU, 36th Marine Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades near Guyevo, Kazachaya Loknya, Kolmakovo, Lyubimovka, Mikhaylovka, Malaya Loknya, Melovaya, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Novy Put, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Russkoye Porechnoye, Sverdlikovo, Pravda, Tolsty Lug, Cherkasskaya Konopelka, and Yuzhny.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops delivered strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas and reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanised brigades, 82nd Air Assault Brigade of the AFU, 1st National Guard Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade, 103rd, 110th, and 116th territorial defence brigades near Belopolye, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Bondaryovshchina, Glukhov, Zhuravka, Obody, Peremoga, Pavlovka, Rechki, Radkovka, Sumy, Shalygino, and Khoten.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 380 troops and 11 units of hardware, including two tanks and nine armoured fighting vehicles, as well as three artillery guns, one electronic warfare station, one mine clearing vehicle, and 14 motor vehicles.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than 16,000 troops, 126 tanks, 57 infantry fighting vehicles, 95 armoured personnel carriers, 795 armoured fighting vehicles, 492 motor vehicles, 124 artillery guns, 29 MLRS launchers, including eight of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, eight SAM launchers, five transport-loading vehicles, 31 electronic warfare stations and seven counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, 17 engineering vehicles, including ten counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, as well as one armoured recovery vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
