A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported that in the Ukrainian north-eastern region of Kharkiv, Russian forces have advanced westwards from Pishchane village. They now occupy a small salient 3.5km from the Oskil river. It is likely that Russian forces aim to reach the eastern bank of the Oskil river to use as a natural defensive barrier and set conditions for future operations.

Russian forces primary effort remains Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. Russia has highly likely taken the towns of Hrodivka, east of Pokrvosk, and Ukrainsk, south of the city. Russian forces remain approximately 8km from Pokrovsk. Ukrainian reinforcements, urban areas, and Ukrainian defences have likely contributed to slowing Russia's advance on the axis in the past week.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that defense Forces of Ukraine continue to repel attacks of occupation troops in all directions. The situation in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhiv directions remains tense. Russia is active offensive actions, in an effort to improve the tactical position, Ukrainian defenders are causing the opponent significant losses in live strength and technique.

So far, 125 combat clashes have taken place in the current 24 hours. On the territory of Ukraine today, Russia made four missile strikes with the use of four missiles, 55 aviation strikes, dropping 76 cab. In addition, the zagarbnikaze used 662 kamikaze drones for strikes and carried out more than 3,800 shelling at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements using different types of weapons.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops are trying to suppress Ukrainian units in the areas of Liptsiv and Pacific, near the last ongoing battle. Today, Ukrainian defenders in this direction managed to eliminate and injure 47 Russian occupants, destroy one tank, 13 artillery systems, 41 BPLAs, four units of automobile and five units of special equipment.
Seven times the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions in the Kupâns куkomu direction. Near the settlements of Glushkivka, Kucherivka, Kolisnikivka and Stelmakhivka, the Defense Forces units repelled seven Russian offensive actions.
In the Lyman direction a day Russian troops 19 times attacked Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Cherneshina, Druzhelyubivka, Nevsky, Makiyivka, Dibrova, Torsky and Dronivka. The fights continue in two locations.
Russian forces once tried to push Ukrainian defenders out of positions in the areas of Fedorivka in the Siver direction. The attack was repelled, the opponent was unsuccessful.
In the Kramatorsky direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled four Russian attempts to advance near Kalinivka, Klishchyivka, White Mountain and the Predtechniny. The situation is under control.
In the Toretsky direction, where aviation-backed Russian occupiers attacked Ukrainian positions near Dachnya, Toretsk and Nelipivka 15 times, nine clashes are already completed. Fighting is ongoing near Toretsk.
The Russian main efforts are directed in the direction of Pokrovsk. Here, during the day, Russian forces attacked 30 times in the areas of Vozdvizhenko, Marinivka, Mirolyubivka, Novotoretsky, Mykolaivka, Novogrodivka, Cranes, Red Yar and Green Field. According to preliminary estimates today, the occupiers in the direction lost more than 220 soldiers killed and wounded, four tanks, 12 vehicles, eight combat armored vehicles and six artillery systems destroyed.
In the Kurakhiv direction at this time of the day, Ukrainian defenders repelled 21 Russian attempts to attack Ukrainian positions. Zagarbniki tried to advance near Tsukurynogo, Georgiyivka, Konstantinivka, Katerynivka and Ukrainian. The fights are not všuhuhût к, currently there are three combat clashes.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU and 113th Territorial Defence Brigade near Liptsy and Volchansk (Kharkov region).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 105 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, four motor vehicles, two 152-mm D-20 howitzers, three 122-mm D-30 guns, and one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system.

Units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 14th, 53rd, 116th mechanised brigades, 3rd Tank Brigade of the AFU, and 116th Territorial Defence Brigade near Kupyansk, Pershetravnevoye, Vasilevka, Petropavlovka, Kruglyakovka (Kharkov region), and Serebryanka (Donetsk People's Republic). Four counter-attacks launched by AFU assault detachments were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 450 troops, one tank, eight armoured fighting vehicles, six motor vehicles, one UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzer, three 122-mm D-30 howitzers, and four U.S.-made 105-mm M119 howitzers. Two electronic warfare stations and one field ammunition depot were destroyed.

Units of the Yug Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on manpower of formations of the 24th, 54th, 118th mechanised brigades, 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, 143rd Infantry Brigade, and 56th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU near Kirovo, Slavyansk, Konstantinovka, Kurakhovo, Grigorovka, Zaliznyanskoye, and Chasov Yar (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 600 troops, two armoured fighting vehicles, eight motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, one Swedish-made 155-mm Archer self-propelled artillery system, two UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzers, three 122-mm D-30 howitzers, two 152-mm D-20 guns, three U.S.-made 105-mm M119 guns, one U.S.-made 227-mm M142 HIMARS MLRS launcher, one Anklav-N electronic warfare station, and one U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar.

Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 68th Infantry Brigade, 71st Jaeger Brigade, 5th Assault Brigade of the AFU, and 109th Territorial Defence Brigade near Kalinovo, Gorkogo, Mikhaylovka, and Rozovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

Nine counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 25th Airborne Brigade of the AFU, 2nd, 12th, and 142nd national guard brigades were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 440 troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, four motor vehicles, one Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, one U.S.-made 105-mm M101 gun, and one 100-mm Rapira anti-tank gun.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU and 118th Territorial Defence Brigade near Dobrovolye and Zolotaya Niva (Donetsk People's Republic). One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the AFU 72nd Mechanised Brigade was repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 140 troops, three motor vehicles, one French-made 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled artillery system, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer. Two Anklav-N electronic warfare stations were destroyed.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 141st Infantry Brigade of the AFU and 39th Coastal Defence Brigade near Veselyanka (Zaporozhye region) and Kherson.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 60 troops, six motor vehicles, and one electronic warfare station.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces engaged AFU manpower and hardware clusters in 135 areas during the day.

Air defence units shot down one U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missile, three Neptune long-range guided missiles, two French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, one U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectile, and 35 fixed-wing UAVs.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 32,124 unmanned aerial vehicles, 579 anti-aircraft missile systems, 18,338 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,458 MLRS combat vehicles, 15,085 field artillery guns and mortars, and 26,401 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are repelling an attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the territory of the Russian Federation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces continued offensive actions and inflicted losses on formations of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Assault Brigade, 36th Marine Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades near Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Malaya Loknya, and Plekhovo.

Over the past 24 hours, units of the Sever Group of Forces repelled the enemy's attempts to launch attacks in the direction of Malaya Loknya and Plekhovo.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 25 troops killed and wounded; one Ukrainian serviceman was taken prisoner; two motor vehicles were destroyed.

With the support of Army Aviation and artillery fire, two AFU attempts to break through the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of Novy Put were foiled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 30 troops killed and wounded, one tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, one armoured fighting vehicle, and two motor vehicles.

Air strikes, artillery fire, and actions of the troops inflicted losses on manpower and hardware clusters of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 103rd, 112th, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Gornal, Goncharovka, Kurilovka, Kositsa, Kruglenkoye, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Malaya Loknya, Melovaya, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Mirny, Novy Put, Novoivanovka, Plekhovo, Russkoye Porechnoye, Tolsty Lug, and Cherkasskaya Konopelka.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, and Missile Troops delivered strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas and reserves of the 21st, 41st mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 92nd Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade, 103rd, 110th, 116th, and 129th territorial defence brigades of the AFU near Belopolye, Budivelnoye, Bruski, Glukhov, Dibrovo, Zhuravka, Obody, Pavlovka, Rechki, Radkovka, Stukalovka, Sosnovka, Sumy, and Ugroyedy.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 340 troops and six units of armoured hardware, including one tank, three infantry fighting vehicles, two armoured fighting vehicles as well as eight artillery guns, one electronic warfare station, one counter-battery radar, and five motor vehicles. One AFU serviceman was taken prisoner.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than 16,400 troops, 127 tanks, 60 infantry fighting vehicles, 95 armoured personnel carriers, 797 armoured fighting vehicles, 497 motor vehicles, 132 artillery guns, 29 MLRS launchers, including eight of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, eight SAM launchers, five transport-loading vehicles, 32 electronic warfare stations and eight counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, 17 engineering vehicles, including ten counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, as well as one armoured recovery vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
