Russo-Ukraine War - 24 September 2024 - Day 944

A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that In total, since the beginning of this day, there have been 137 combat clashes. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively interrupt the Russian attempts to advance into the depths of Ukrainian territory, giving him a fiery impression.

Russian zagarbniki made on the territory of Ukraine one missile strike, 57 air strikes, dropping 82 controlled aviation bombs. In addition, more than 730 kamikaze drones were recruited for impressions and carried out more than 3,600 shelling at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian opponent three times unsuccessfully stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the Vovchanska area. At the same time, Russian aviation from the side of Shebekino (Russia) carried out destructive strikes with controlled aviation bombs on residential areas and civilian infrastructure of Kharkiv (seven CAB) and Vovchansk.

In the Sívers Біkomu direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three assault Russian actions towards Verkhnyokamiansky and Bílogorivka.
In the Kramators підтриkomu direction, Russian forces with the support of aviation attacked Ukrainian positions near Mankivka, Kalinivka, Stupochok and White Mountain. Defense forces stopped seven attacks of the zagarbnikív, two more clashes continue.
There were 10 fights in the Toretsky direction. Russians also with the support of aviation stormed the positions of Ukrainian units towards Toretsk and Scherbinivka. All the Russian attacks have been repelled.
In the Pokrovsky direction, since the beginning of this day, Russian forces attacked 24 times in the areas of Vozdvizhenko, Novotoretsk, Green Field, Novogrodivka, Krasnoy Yara, Nikolaivka and Marinivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled 23 Russian assault actions. The fight is still ongoing near the Red Yar. Today, according to preliminary data, 328 occupants were defecated in this direction, of which 134 were irrevocably. Five tanks, six BBMs and eight cars were also destroyed. Another tank, three BBMs, 11 artillery systems and three vehicles were damaged.
In the Kurakhiv direction, Russian forces made 19 attempts to break through Ukrainian defense near Tsukuriny, the Desired Second, Georgievka, Dalnyi, Konstantinivka and Katerynivka. Fifteen clashes completed, four more to go. In this direction, according to preliminary data, the Russian losses were irreversible and wounded amounted to 52 persons. A combat armored vehicle and car were also destroyed.
In the Vremívs вкиkomu direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian units eight times near Vugledara, Pavlivka, Katerynivka and Vodânogo. Half of the attacks Ukrainian warriors at this time have been repelled, four more combat - continue.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that in Liptsy and Volchansk directions, units of the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on formations of the 57th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 36th Marine Brigade, and 113th Territorial Defence Brigade near Liptsy, Volchansk, and Volchanskye Khutora (Kharkov region).

One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the Kraken nationalist formation was repelled. The AFU losses amounted to up to 65 troops, three motor vehicles, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer.

Units of the Zapad Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 43rd, 44th, 66th mechanised brigades, 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU, and 114th Territorial Defence Brigade near Kupyansk, Zagoruykovka, Kolesnikovka, Lozovaya, Novoyegorovka (Kharkov region), Makeyevka, Nevskoye (Lugansk People's Republic), and Torskoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

Four counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 14th, 63rd mechanised brigades of the AFU, and 1st National Guard Brigade were repelled. The AFU losses amounted to up to 420 troops, one Kozak armoured fighting vehicle, three pickup trucks, one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, one 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm D-20 gun, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one UK-made 105-mm L-119 gun. Four AFU field ammunition depots were destroyed.

Units of the Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions as well as inflicted losses on formations of the 24th, 28th, 30th, 54th, 93rd mechanised brigades, 56th Motorised Infantry Brigade, 5th Assault Brigade, 25th Airborne Brigade of the AFU, 116th Territorial Defence Brigade, and the Lyut Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine near Kramatorsk, Seversk, Verkhnekamenskoye, Kalinino, Stupochki, Predtechino, Belaya Gora, Maksimilyanovka, and Katerinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

The AFU losses amounted to up to 810 troops, one armoured personnel carrier, one armoured fighting vehicle, 15 motor vehicles, one Polish-made 155-mm Krab self-propelled artillery system, one U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer, two UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzers, one 152-mm D-20 gun, two 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, two 105-mm guns, namely, one UK-made L-119 and one U.S.-made M119. One electronic warfare station and four field ammunition depots were destroyed.

Units of the Tsentr Group of Forces continued advancing to the depth of the enemy's defences and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 67th, 100th mechanised brigades, 142nd, 144th, 152nd infantry brigades, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 55th Artillery Brigade, 78th Air Assault Regiment of the AFU, 109th, 118th, 119th territorial defence brigades, and 14th National Guard Brigade near Dzerzhinsk, Nelepovka, Rozovka, Krasnoarmeysk, Dimitrov, Grodovka, Ukrainsk, Gornyak, and Kurakhovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

Ten counter-attacks launched by assault detachments of the 53rd, 150th, 151st mechanised brigades, 68th Jaeger Brigade of the AFU, 3rd, 12th, 15th national guard brigades, and the Omega Special Operations Detachment were repelled.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 555 troops, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, one Turkish-made Kirpi armoured fighting vehicle, five pickup trucks, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 gun, and three 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

Units of the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation along the front line and inflicted losses on formations of the 33rd Mechanised Brigade, 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, 116th, 127th territorial defence brigades, and 21st National Guard Brigade near Dobrovolye, Ugledar, Zolotaya Niva, Shakhtyorskoye, Rovnopol (Donetsk People's Republic), and Temirovka (Zaporozhye region).

One counter-attack launched by an assault detachment of the AFU 72nd Mechanised Brigade was repelled. The AFU losses amounted to up to 130 troops, five motor vehicles, and one Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery system.

Units of the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of the AFU, 35th Marine Brigade, 103rd, 108th, and 123rd territorial defence brigades near Malaya Tokmachka, Nesteryanka (Zaporozhye region), Zaporozhye, Tokaryovka (Kherson region), and Kherson.

The AFU losses amounted to up to 50 troops, four motor vehicles, one 152-mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, and one 152-mm D-20 gun. One Anklav-N electronic warfare station and one field ammunition depot were destroyed.

Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces delivered strikes at a defenсe industry enterprise of Ukraine, which produced and serviced gas turbine engines for AFU combat aircraft, as well as the power facilities that ensured their operation, infrastructure of a military airfield, two UAV production workshops and one UAV assembly point, one POL depot, as well as engaged AFU manpower and hardware clusters in 149 areas.

Air defence units shot down two U.S.-made HARM anti-radiation missiles and three HIMARS MLRS projectiles as well as 63 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 646 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 32,187 unmanned aerial vehicles, 579 anti-aircraft missile systems, 18,343 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,458 MLRS combat vehicles, 15,150 field artillery guns and mortars, and 26,436 units of support military vehicles have been neutralised.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the operation to neutralise an enemy group, which broke into the territory of the Russian Federation.

Units of the Sever Group of Forces continued offensive actions and inflicted losses on formations of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 115th Mechanised Brigade, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 36th Marine Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, and 129th Territorial Defence Brigade of the AFU near Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, and Plekhovo.

Over the past 24 hours, units of the Sever Group of Forces repelled two enemy attacks in the direction of Malaya Loknya and Obukhovka. As a result, the AFU losses amounted to up to 20 troops killed and wounded; two motor vehicles were destroyed; four AFU servicemen were taken prisoner.

With support of Army Aviation and artillery fire, five AFU attempts to break through the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of Medvezhye and Novy Put were foiled. The AFU losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded, one infantry fighting vehicle, three armoured fighting vehicles, and one motor vehicle.

Army Aviation and artillery strikes inflicted losses on manpower and hardware clusters of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 112th, and 129th territorial defence brigades near Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Ivashkovsky, Zazulevka, Kurilovka, Kolmakov, Lyubimovka, Makhovka, Martynovka, Mikhaylovka, Malaya Loknya, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Novaya Sorochina, Novy Put, Novoivanovka, Pravda, Plekhovo, Russkoye Porechnoye, Tolsty Lug, Cherkasskaya Konopelka, and Yuzhny.

Operational-Tactical Aviation and Missile Troops delivered strikes in Sumy region at concentration areas and reserves of the 21st, 41st mechanised brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 1st National Guard Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades near Belopolye, Bruski, Bunyakino, Vorozhba, Volkovka, Kazachye, Kislaya Dubina, Malushino, Mazeyevka, Novaya Sloboda, Pavlovka, Partizanskoye, Rechki, Svoboda, Shalygino, and Ugroyedy.

Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 360 troops and 13 units of hardware, including one infantry fighting vehicle and 12 armoured fighting vehicles, as well as four artillery guns, two MLRS launchers, three electronic warfare stations, and 11 motor vehicles. Four AFU servicemen were taken prisoner.

Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than 16,700 troops, 127 tanks, 61 infantry fighting vehicles, 95 armoured personnel carriers, 809 armoured fighting vehicles, 508 motor vehicles, 136 artillery guns, 31 MLRS launchers, including eight of HIMARS and six of MLRS made by the USA, eight SAM launchers, five transport-loading vehicles, 35 electronic warfare stations and eight counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, 18 engineering vehicles, including 11 counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, as well as one armoured recovery vehicle.

The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
