2008 - Air Force with a New Look
In 2008 began the transition to the formation of a new image of the Armed Forces (including the VVS). In the course of events Air Force moved to the new organizational structure is more appropriate to modern conditions and realities of the time. In 2009-2010 th Air Force made the transition to the two-level (brigade-battalion) of the control system of the Air Force. As a result, the total number of Air Force organizations reduced from 8 to 6, all of the air defense of the compound (4 cases and 7 divisions of air defense) reformed in the 11 brigades of aerospace defense. Simultaneously, the active renewal of the aircraft fleet. In place of the fourth-generation aircraft come their new versions, as well as modern types of aircraft (helicopters), have greater combat capabilities and flight performance.

To further improve the system of air (aerospace) defense, Russia is working to develop a new generation of the S-500, which is supposed to apply the principle of separate solving destroy ballistic and aerodynamic targets. The main objective of the complex - the struggle with the combat equipment of medium-range ballistic missiles, if necessary, with intercontinental ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of the trajectory, and, within certain limits, in the middle portion.
A modern Air Force is an important part of the Russian Federation Armed Forces. Currently, they are designed for the following tasks: repel aggression in the aerospace and defense against attacks from the air control centers of senior state and military management, administrative and political centers, the industrial and economic areas, the most important objects of the national economy and infrastructure groups troops (forces); destruction of troops (forces) and enemy targets using conventional, high-precision and nuclear weapons, as well as air support and combat support troops (forces) of other branches of the Armed Forces and the combat arms.
