Project 1123 Kondor / Moskva - In Service
The cruiser went to the Mediterranean Sea eleven times for military service, twice went out to the Atlantic Ocean. He participated in major exercises "Spring" (1969), "Armor" (1969), "Ocean" (1970). From 8 to 13 April 1970 and from 26 to 29 April 1973, the cruiser paid visits to Alexandria (Egypt), from 5 to 10 June 1974 and from 12 to 19 April 1982 to Rijeka (Yugoslavia), from 8 to 13 April 1978, to Algeria, from 27 September to 5 October 1979, to Dubrovnik (Yugoslavia), from 12 to 18 June 1982, to Luanda (Angola), from 25 June to 2 July 1982, to Lagos (Nigeria), from 10 to 11 August 1991, To Varna (Bulgaria), from 20 to 25 November 1991 - to Tartous (Syria).
In 1973, the cruiser "Moscow" took part in the shooting of the feature film "Ocean." In March 1974, the Moscow "Moskva", while in the zone of military operations, carried out a combat mission to assist the armed forces of Egypt. In 1974 at the request of the Egyptian government, Moskva together with the trawlers of Pacific Ocean fleet assumed the participation in the mine clearing of the water area of the Suez Canal. For this it was equipped with eight vertolet] - the trawlers, who defused ground and anchored mines in the places, where ships could not act.
The most serious emergency in the history of Moskva was the fire which flared up on February 2, 1975. At 12.15, when the major portion of the crew had dinner, a short circuit occurred in the accomodation of the bow diesel generators on the switchboard. There were no personnel in the section, and fire rapidly extended to the adjacent crew space #3. Since partitions on the cruiser, with exception of those waterproofed, were made from the aluminum-magnesium alloy, they instantly burnt down, and fire covered all new accomodations.
Because of the design features (bulkheads from the alloy AMG), the fire began to spread quickly across the hold. Very rapidly flame reached the energy-section of #1, which held auxiliary boiler and turbogenerator - the ship was de-energized. The situation was aggravated by the fact that autonomous fire extinguishing system in the burning sections was defective, fire main without the electricity did not work, and it was impossible to activate the stern diesel generator because of a breakdown in the oil system.
The command of ship turned to the operations duty officer of base for urgent help. Approximately an hour after the beginning of fire alongside the cruiser began to approach fire launches, tugs, rescue vessels "Kazbek", "Beshtau", SS-21, etc; onboard Moskva a total of 16 emergency rescue groups landed. In connection with the de-energization of the ship (the stern diesel generator did not start), the fire-fighting system did not work and the crew resorted to the assistance of the approaching rescue vessels Beshtau, Kazbek and PS-21. Since the center of fire all grew, to avoid the explosion of ammunition it was necessary to first flood the cellars 57-mm of projectiles, systems of setting interferences, and then cellar [ZRK] storm. Fire poured from the hoses through the hatchways of the upper deck; therefore the new threat soon arose: on the decks higher than water line was saved much water, which created the threat of the tilting of ship.
On the order of Vice Admiral V.A.Samoylov arrived onboard the emergency cruiser water from the decks they began to immediately pass into the hold, and the extinguishing of fire to continue only by foam. To localize fire was possible only by 17.10, and the fire was completely extinguished by 19.15 - 7 hours after the fire started. Three crew members of Moscow - Warrant Officer D.N.Tkach, sailors Lukashev and Titov - perished from the carbon monoxide. A total of 26 additional people caught poisonings (including 11- heavy), but they lived.
Since 1976, the cruiser was a part of 11 brigade of the 30th Division of the Red Banner Black Sea Fleet. In 1982-1989 the ship was repaired at Sevmorzavod. The last exit of the cruiser "Moscow" in the sea took place on May 26, 1993 .
On April 27, 1994, the cruiser was placed in the Navy reserve category 2. And on June 22, 1995, it was reclassified and renamed into the PKZ-108 plavkazarmu - it will be easier to sell the famous helicopter carrier in the future at a scrap price, hoping that no one will notice this transaction with the usual plavkazarmoy! The anti-submarine cruiser-helicopter carrier of project 1123 "Moscow" gave its former name to the missile cruiser of project 1164 "Glory".
On November 7, 1996, the Naval Flag was descended on a ship (PKZ-108) and then it was sold for scrap to India. And on May 27, 1997 the ship in tow went from Sevastopol to India for cutting into metal.
