A number of claims and counterclaims are being made on the Ukraine-Russia conflict on the ground and online. While GlobalSecurity.org takes utmost care to accurately report this news story, we cannot independently verify the authenticity of all statements, photos and videos.
On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was suddenly and deliberately attacked by land, naval and air forces of Russia, igniting the largest European war since the Great Patriotic War. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" (SVO - spetsialnaya voennaya operatsiya) in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the "Donbass republics" for help. That attack is a blatant violation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Putin stressed that Moscow's goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The military buildup in preceeding months makes it obvious that the unprovoked and dastardly Russian attack was deliberately planned long in advance. During the intervening time, the Russian government had deliberately sought to deceive the world by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
"To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [Judgment of the International Military Tribunal]
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia continues his active offensive actions, attempting to breach the defenses of Ukrainian troops. Ukrainian defenders are steadily holding the pressure of the occupiers, causing Russian forces maximum losses.
Since the beginning of the day, there have been 156 combat clashes, Russian forces launched three missile strikes using three missiles, 43 aerial strikes, dropping 60 KABs, more than 500 kamikaze drones strikes and about three thousand shelling the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements using different types of weapons.
Four combat clashes with Russian zagarbnikami took place in the Kharkiv direction. Two attacks in the areas of Lipcív and Vovchanska were repelled. Two more clashes are underway. The situation is under control.
Estimated losses of Russian troops so far have been 56 soldiers killed and wounded, a combat armored vehicle, ten car units and a special equipment unit have been destroyed, and 34 BPLAs have also been destroyed. Two tanks, an armored vehicle and two artillery systems were damaged.
In the Kupyans таkomu direction, Russian forces 24 times tried to push Ukrainian units out of occupied positions near Sinkivka, Mâasožarivka, Stepovoí̈ Novoselívka, Kolísnikívka and Lozovoí̈. There are currently five enemy attacks.
Twenty times, Russian forces attacked in the Lyman direction, tried to advance in the direction of settlements Tverdohlibove, Cherneshina, Druzhelyubivka, Nevske, Torske and in the Serebryansky Forest. The battle near Nevsky is currently being sharpened.
In the Sivers Наkomu direction throughout the day, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven Russian assault actions in the areas of Verkhnyokamiansky and Viimka. There are still three clashes in progress, the Russian opponent is trying to break through towards Zvanívka.
Eight combat clashes took place in the Kramatorsky direction. Activity of the Russian occupiers showed in the area of Klishchievka, Andriyivka and Chasovoye Yar, however, attempts to attack Russian forces on the position of the Defense Forces of Ukraine were repelled by Ukrainian defenders.
The enemy tried to infiltrate Ukrainian defense 13 times in the Toretsky direction. Since the beginning of the day, the Russian occupiers have been carrying out assault actions near Toretsk, Zaliznogo, Nelipivka and Sukhoi Balka. The fights near Toretsk and Dachny are still ongoing.
Intense Russian attacks of Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky direction. Here, during the day, Russian forces carried out 40 assault and offensive actions. The largest activity of the Russian occupiers is kept in the area of Vozdvizhenko, Green Field, Mirolyubivka, Hrodivka, Novogrodivka, Karlivka, Marinivka and Mykhailivka. In total, 32 attacks in the direction of Ukrainian defenders have already repelled, eight more boêzítknen би - continue. The situation is difficult, but Ukrainian soldiers are doing everything to prevent the advancement of Russian forces into the depths of Ukrainian territory.
According to the information available at this time, 225 people have been killed and injured as of today's death of the Russian aggressor in this direction. Destroyed two artillery systems, the RSV, five cars and a special equipment unit. In addition, the car and one enemy cannon were damaged.
In the Kurakhiv direction at this time of the day there are 30 combat clashes. Zagarbniks maintain high activity, trying to advance in the areas of settlements of Krasnogorivka, Konstantinivka and Georgiyivka. Defense Forces units repelled 26 Russian attacks, four attacks are still ongoing.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the units of the Sever Group of Forces in Volchansk, Bryansk, and Liptsy directions have defeated units of the AFU 22nd Mechanised Brigade, the 36th Marine Brigade, and the 118th Territorial Defence Brigade close to Pustogorod (Sumy region), Volchansk, and Liptsy (Kharkov region).
Two counter-attack launched by assault detachments of the AFU 22nd Mechanised Brigade have been repelled.
The AFU losses were up to 185 Ukrainian troops, three motor vehicles, one 152-mm D-20 gun, one 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer.
The units of the Zapad Group of Forces have liberated Stelmakhovka (Lugansk People's Republic). Russian troops have defeated manpower and hardware of 14th mechanised and 4th tank brigades of the AFU near Petropavlovka, Kupyansk (Kharkov region), Torskoye, and Serebryanka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Six counter-attacks have been repelled by units of the 1st National Guard Brigade, 110th, 117th territorial defence brigades, and the 12th Azov Special Operations Brigade.
The AFU losses were up to 520 Ukrainian troops, six motor vehicles, one U.S.-made 155-mm M198 howitzer, one 152-mm Msta-B howitzer, two 122-mm D-30 guns, two Anklav-N and Kvertus electronic warfare stations. Three AFU ammunition depots have been destroyed.
The units of the Yug Group of Forces have taken more advantageous positions and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of 24th, 54th, 93rd mechanised, 56th motorised infantry, 4th tank brigades of the AFU near Chasov Yar, Krasnogorovka, Karpovka, Stupochki, and Konstantinovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU losses were up to 740 Ukrainian troops, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, two motor vehicles, one UK-made 155-mm FH-70 howitzer, one 152-mm D-20 gun, four 122-mm D-30 howitzers, two 105-mm U.S.-made M119 guns, and three electronic warfare stations.
The units of the Tsentr Group of Forces have liberated Nikolayevka (Donetsk People's Republic). Russian troops continue to advance to the depths of enemy defences.
In addition, AFU 44th, 53rd mechanised, 95th air assault brigades, and the 15th National Guard Brigade have been hit close to Rozovka, Grodovka, Karlovka, and Mikhailovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Seven counter-attacks of AFU 32nd, 100th mechanised, 68th jaeger, 25th airborne brigades, and the 15th National Guard Brigade have been repelled.
The AFU losses were up to 530 Ukrainian troops, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, six motor vehicles, two 152-mm D-20 guns, one 122-mm D-30 howitzer, and one 100-mm Rapira anti-tank gun.
The units of the Vostok Group of Forces have improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of the AFU 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade of the AFU, the 128th Territorial Defence Brigade near Velikaya Novosyolka and Novoukrainka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Three AFU counter-attacks have been repelled.
The AFU losses were up to 105 Ukrainian troops, one infantry fighting vehicle, six motor vehicles, one 155-mm U.S.-made M777 howitzer, and one electronic warfare station.
The units of the Dnepr Group of Forces have inflicted fire damage on the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade and the 44th Artillery Brigade of the AFU near Pavlovka and Stepovoye (Zaporozhye region).
The AFU losses were up to 45 Ukrainian troops, one U.S.-made M113 armoured personnel carrier, one U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery system, and two electronic warfare stations. One ammunition depot has been destroyed.
Operational-Tactical Aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have eliminated one UK-made Storm Shadow cruise missile depot, one oil base, which supplied fuel for AFU military hardware, as well as clusters of enemy manpower and military hardware in 135 areas.
Air defence facilities have shot down three French-made Hammer guided aerial bombs, one U.S.-made HIMARS projectile, and 36 unmanned aerial vehicles.
The units of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed three uncrewed surface vehicles in the Black Sea waters.
In total, 640 airplanes and 283 helicopters, 30,649 unmanned aerial vehicles, 575 air defence missile systems, 17,593 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 1,426 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 13,741 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 25,335 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation also reported that the Sever Group of Forces supported by Army Aviation and artillery have thwarted four attacks launched by enemy assault detachments towards Korenevo, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
In addition, Russian troops have thwarted attacks launched by AFU units in the direction of Borki, Kremyanoye, Spalnoye, Martynovka, and Cherkasskaya Konopelka. As a result, the enemy losses were up to 70 people killed and wounded and four armoured fighting vehicles. Five AFU servicemen surrendered.
Aviation and artillery together with troops have engaged clusters of manpower and hardware of 22nd, 61st, and 115th mechanised, 17th tank, 80th, and 82nd air assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as well as the 1st National Guard Brigade, and the 1004th Security and Service Brigade close to Apanasovka, Borki, Byakhovo, Vishnyovka, Zaoleshinka, Kubatkin, Kolmakov, Krasnooktyabrsky, Lyubimovka, Mikhailovka, Novaya Sorochina, Obukhovka, Plekhovo, Rubanshchina, Russkoye Porechnoye, Snagost, Cherkasskaya Konopelka.
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue reconnaissance and search operations in forestry areas to locate and eliminate enemy small sabotage groups attempting to get to the depth of the Russian territory.
Operational-Tactical Aviation carried out air strikes in Sumy region, launching attacks on clusters of manpower and military hardware reserves of 22nd, 61st, 41st mechanised, and 82nd air assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 1st Brigade of National Guard as well as 101st, 103rd, and 129th territorial defence brigades close to Belopolye, Basovka, Vodolagi, Glukhov, Iskriskovshchina, Mikhailovskoye, Pervomayskoye, Pustogorod, Sumy, Shalygino, and Esman.
The AFU losses were more than 400 Ukrainian troops and 29 armoured vehicles, including one infantry fighting vehicle, one armoured personnel carrier, 27 armoured fighting vehicles as well as one artillery gun, one MLRS launcher, one mortar, and 17 motor vehicles.
Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU have lost up to 7,450 troops, 74 tanks, 36 infantry fighting vehicles, 64 armoured personnel carriers, 486 armoured fighting vehicles, 227 motor vehicles, 52 artillery guns, 15 multiple-launch rocket system launchers, including four of HIMARS MLRS and one of MLRS, five SAM launchers, 10 electronic warfare stations, two counter-battery radars, one air defence radar, five engineering vehicles as well as two counterobstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle.
The operation to neutralise the AFU units is in progress.
